Hey PMT! I was wondering where can I get the cheapest domain names? I sort of depleted my paypal and was wondering where I can get the cheapest domain to get my site started.

Try Yahoo! Domains. They still have the USD1.99/year domain name registration.

Hi Dewdx, domain name lang ba ang kailangan mo? How about hosting? Kasi with some hosting kasama na yung domain for free.

Yup, there are some hosts that offer free domain; but I suggest that you do not avail of such freebie. I suggest that you buy your own domain even if you choose a host that offers to give it to you for free.

When you buy your own domain, you become its owner, admin and technician.

But when you avail of a free domain from your host, you abdicate your role as owner; the host becomes the owner while you retain the roles of admin and technician.

You should consider that there's a possibility that you might change to another host in the future. When that happens, there's a very big chance that your original host will not give your domain to you because they own it. It's either they will ask you to buy another domain or buy your domain from them at the price they will determine. It's not going to be cheap.

And if you decide to buy another domain, your hard work with your original domain will all be for naught. You'll be back to square one.

Just my opinion.

Thanks

Korek ka jan. Some hosts can also be quite a pain in the a** if you wish transfer hosting, some of them won't immediately transfer the domain to you, madalas nilang reason naka-lock daw sa kanila.

hmmm

namecheap.com

$3 for 1st year sa .info, pero $10 afterwards.

Seriously, I think you would not want a cheap domain compared to a .com .net or .org kung online business talaga hanap mo

Hi bro how cheap can you go? Kasi seriously if it is a business you want to start online I suggest you go for a .com or a .net domain. you can get it at $8.81 sa namecheap just search for valid coupon codes sa google. And when you think about it $8.81 is hindi na malaki for 1 year = P423 per year or P35.25 per month. Isang merienda lang yun sa isang buwan. Hehe

Go for a domain that will really brand you and work to earn a profit within a year. Kaya mo marecover yun cost if you really decide to push yourself to succeed. Hosting is a different story, but you can pickup the suggestions of the others who posted here.

I use webhostingpad and justhost, webhosting pad is cheap if you lock in 2-3 years. 1.99USD a month papatak and then you can get coupons that brings it down even further. Pero yung nga lock-in ka but if serious ka nga about business madaling bawiin yun in 1 year or less.

Yeah standard yun when you buy online, always search for a coupon code. Imagine this, hostgator gives 1 month free webhosting if you have a coupon code. This makes a good way to start learning how to work a host for 1 month without paying anything. Hehe. I saved a lot online from these coupon codes. But the good thing is you're aware of it na and you'll remember in the future. Good luck on your online venture.

Di ako marunong gumawa ng site eh  :hihi: and I asked a friend and sinabi na 20K ang paggawa nung website na gusto ko (medyo complicated kasi at malaking database ang kelangan+needs paypal+webhosting included). Well, ask ko lang, ganon ba yon talaga kamahal or mura na yon? Or should I learn from scratch and build my own website na lang?

any advice? thanks for the coupon tips..i'll look for it on my next purchase

Hello, pareho lang tayo, wala din akong alam kahit ano sa paggawa ng website.

I started blogging just a month ago but I started planning on making some bucks online since last February. That means I spent around 5 months planning and studying.

If you are really bent on blogging, focus on it and disregard other ways of making money online that are totally unrelated to blogging (accepting freelance writing work is ok; it's complementary to blogging)

IMO, paying someone P20k is unnecessary; you can spend that money for more important things.

My site is now online but, so far this is the only amount that I have invested:
1. US$10 for the domain
2. around P4k for a one year hosting

Yun lang. Yung tiyaga ang di ko kayang lagyan ng amount, Kailangan mo lang talagang magtiyaga. For a non-tech-savvy person like me, it was like reinventing the wheel.

I suggest you create an account at WordPress.org. They offer the best platform and support for bloggers. You'll learn everything that you need here:

http://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page

At lagi kang tumambay sa forum na to ng PMT, this is a community that I am very thankful and proud to be a member of. Ang daming magagaling at matulungin dito.

Thanks a lot

Thanks brokenarrow, I've downloaded dreamweaver software and DW for dummies, kaya I'll be learning from square one. I decided not to pay but try to start and make a simple website, at least matututo pa ako and kapag nagkaproblema ang site e di kaya kong ayusin diba?Di na muna ako kukuha ng webhost para at least domain lang muna ang binayaran ko.

Question regarding WP, di ba di pwede ang adsense dun..or I'm wrong?

And oh btw, PMT really rocks! This site helped me a lot in my financial know-how. :rakenrol:

^ @sharlene

WordPress comes in two kinds: WordPress.com and WordPress.org

WP.com is what you choose if you just want to blog but you can't monetize it. The platform is free and so is hosting.

But if you want to monetize your blog, use WP.org. Platform is free but you will have have to get your own host. I use HostGator.

With WP.org you can monetize your site in whatever way you like (read their user agreement to see what ads you can and cannot put in your site). AdSense if perfectly ok. I'm starting with affiliate marketing with my site, though, AdSense talaga gusto ko. Pero tsaka na; marami pang aayusin sa site ko.

I highly recommend WordPress, sobrang ganda ng resources and support. IMO, using Dreamweaver is not necessary. With DW, your going to build your site from the ground up, you'll be starting from scratch.

WordPress comes ready to use and they have hundreds of free themes and plugins to choose from. Iko-customize mo na lang yung theme mo.

Instead of reading your DW for dummies, I suggest you start learning HTML. It's the end-all and be-all of creating and maintaining a website. Sa una lang nakakatakot yan and you don't have to master it; basic lang kailangan mo. Later, you will move on to CSS, pero tsaka mo na isipin yun para di ka ma-overwhelm; one baby step at a time.

You're correct that you need to learn to create your own site yourself so you can have total control of it. Besides, site maintenance should always be done in-house, by you, not by your web developer.

Gusto mo mag-practice kung pano gumawa ng website without learning any coding or whatever, para lang maramdaman mo how? I don't recommend this site if you really want to learn then monetize your site, ito practice lang. It's a point-and-click and drag-and-drop way of making a free website with free hosting. Click here.

I hope this helps.

Thanks

thanks for the very informative reply.. :applause: ngaun ko lang nalaman na iba pala ung wp.org at wp.com, hehe..di ko masyado tinitingnan ang extensions whenever I read posts.

I clicked Yola but site maintenance daw sila ngaun so I'll try tomorrow..I'll just bypass DW then and proceed to learning HTML.

Seriously, thanks!

Thanks

I'll just comment on my own post from a few weeks back.

I think, I was wrong

After exchanging PM's from a few PMt members (especially YellowMinded) about SEO, It now appears to me that the most important part of any blog is the title not the domain name. Though, it will be better if your domain name and blog title are the same.

But what if after getting a domain, starting your blog and sweating on writing several contents for your blog, then suddenly you realize that your domain/blog title are not search engine friendly? Should you buy a new domain name that is similar to the new title that you want to replace your old one with.

YellowMinded suggested that it's not necessary and I followed his advice. I'm now using the title in my sig but i kept my domain name. I think he'is right and I'm glad I followed his advice.

So back to my original post. I said in the end

And if you decide to buy another domain, your hard work with your original domain will all be for naught. You'll be back to square one.

That, I think is wrong. What's important is you carry with you your blog title whatever domain name you choose in case you change host and your original host doesn't give you your original domain name.

Like YellowMinded told me, when I changed title, what appears in the browser tabs in not my domain name but my blog title.I think that's cool.

So, if a host offers you a free domain name, grab it. But spend a lot of effort in choosing a title for your blog. Everything will boil down to the title, not the domain name.

So I stand corrected, by myself :D

Yes, my eight-month experience in blogging showed that domain name is not that important in the SERP (Search Engine Result Performance) of a blog. I have a blog title, Owning a Caf, which is very different from my domain name, xicowner.jefmart.com but my site frequently lands on page 1 of Google search. Content is always more important than anything else.

 :applause: :applause: Galing Ed, congrats!

You're right, content is king.

Though ngayon ni hindi ko nga makita sa google search result yung blog ko, it doesn't bother me at all. I intentionally changed to a very highly competitive niche as a challenge to myself. I know with a lot of work (which I'm willing to do), kaya kong mag-move up sa ranking.

Again, as an example of a domain name not being as important as your chosen niche (keywords), type in Google the keywords: Philippine Construction, Philippine Contractors, Construction in the Philippines and see the site that ranks on top. It has a funny-sounding name.

I looked inside this site a long time ago, you would notice, that though it has well-written contents in its main page, the site was primarily designed to please search engines, not real people.

It has contents (nicely hidden in inconspicuous links) that obviously lifted news articles about, let's say Hurricane Katrina in a certain US website, then splatter its chosen keywords all over the contents. It has lines like: "The most devastating hurricane in US history resulted in the deaths of thousands. That's why the Philippine construction is the way to go for Philippine contractors to make a living in the Philippine construction industry. The hurricane destroyed thousands of houses making the Philippine construction industry the main focus of Philippine contractors."

Promise, dami nyang mga ganong contents, incoherent basta lang maisingit yung keywords nya.

If that's what it takes to become number 1 in google, di bale na lang, ayokong mag mukhang tange. :D

You don't have to do something like that, Jun. Trust me, I do not even know the meaning of meta tags up to now. I just write my blogs according to my objective of trying to inform my target audience and to promote an advocacy for the Internet caf industry in the country. In time, you will land at Google page 1 without even trying.

I downloaded an ebook entitled SEO Made Easy by Brad Callen and it's very informative, regarding how google can index your site within 24 hours and as to how to optimize your site onpage(putting keywords in the right places of your blog) and off page. If you want a copy,PM me your email address at isend ko sa inyo. Di ko pa nga lang nai-aapply ang kanyang mga tricks kasi my blog is way far from completion..hehehe...html muna.Btw, I uploaded a blogger theme sa aking blog kaya lang di ko alam masyado kung pano i-edit...haayyyz. Do I also need to study CSS?I guess I'll be lucky kung matapos ko ang blog ko at the end of this year.God bless sa ating lahat! :rakenrol:

"your_domain/wp-admin" is the URL used to login to a WordPress blog only. It cannot be used on a Blogger platform. You have to login using your gmail address and password on blogger.com when your blog is hosted by blogspot.com

Just use a website builder. It's very cheap and you can also monetize it. Plus you can get all the features, sign up for your domain, get custom email addresses, etc. there. I use the hPage Website Builder and it's a really good website creator. Eto oh: https://www.hpage.com

I only pay about 300 pesos via Paypal per month for my website and I've earned hundreds of dollars a month in revenue. And btw, make sure first that what you are blogging about is a niche! For example, I'm a fish hobbyist so my website is all about aquarium and fish care.
