Stocks, Mutual Funds, Forex, Finance Philippines

Best UITF Investment in the PhilippinesIt seems like the year 2014 kicked off to a not-so-good start, judging by the performance of the Philippine equity market and investment funds.

The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) ended a turbulent first month up a meager 2.6%. Compare that with last year’s performance when the index hit an all-time high above the 6,000 level for the first time. “More fun at 6,000″ was last year’s rallying cry. This year, the index is struggling to maintain its support at 6,000.

Investment funds such as Unit Investment Trust Funds (UITF) are similarly having difficulties generating returns. A few funds ended January 2014 either with mediocre returns or, worse, in negative territory.

Which UITFs are the winners and losers last month? The summary of each UITF’s performance is shown below.

What are UITF?

UITFs are investment products typically offered by banks wherein money collected from various investors are invested in a variety of income-generating assets such as stocks, bonds, money market instruments and other similar products.
