The launch of the Apple iPhone in the Philippines is just a few days away (on August 22, to be exact) but an analyst thinks the timing of the launch may just not be right.

According to an analyst of XMG Asia Pacific, the roll-out of the iPhone in the Philippines “came at a very bad time.”

He cited inflation and the rising costs of food and oil as current deterrents for Filipinos to buy high-end luxury items such as the iPhone.

This despite price cutbacks by Globe Telecom on the iPhone. Last week, Globe announced it would sell iPhone 3G prepaid kits starting at P37,599 (8Gb) and P43,799 (16 GB).

The iPhone 3G is also available via postpaid subscriptions ranging from P1,599 to P4,999 in monthly fees.

Globe’s prepaid plans come with P1,000 in load credits spread over five months, or P200 per month. The first 1,000 phonekit purchases will also get an additional P1,000 discount off the purchase price, according to Globe.

At these prices and benefits, are you still willing to get an iPhone?

id rather buy an i-touch than an i-phone. almost the same features except the phone and text services plus the 2MP camera(in America, an 8MP camera phone will be launch this last quarter or early next year)… its much cheaper at 11K in greenhills.. :)

affordable na ba ang iphones in the philippines? i’m shocked to find out how inflated the prices are over there. i think even your calling plans might be more expensive. grabe! maybe only a handful of wealthy people can really afford those prices. well…such is life. but really…the iphone kicks butt :P i am never going back to a just a plain telephone! it’s costly, but it lives up to all my expectations. verrryyy cooool! my at&t monthly calling plan here is $150.00 + about $10-15 in state fees and taxes. that’s for two iphones, with 700 anytime minutes, unlimited nights & weekends, rollover minutes, and 200 txt msgs a month p/iphone. we paid $199 for each of the iphones.

My iPhone 3G 16GB it’s not a prepaid phone but can use prepaid sim, I bought my iPhone $480 without contract, $299 (iPhone 3G 16GB) with at&t 2yr contract plus one time activation fee. I switched to “go phone” (prepaid) cause i don’t use my monthly minutes much and it’s so expensive. I got my go phone sim from at&t, and activated it as go phone service and i’m using my iPhone with it.

I used to have an HTC smartphone and was happy with it until i changed it to I phone 3GS 32GB. It is so great, panis ang HTC. Even if i have to pay $70/month but it has 300 free calls and 300 free text! It has so many applications, games, GPS, emails, etc. I would recommend it to my friends.

it’s so un-practical to buy Iphone. I’d rather stick to a 3310 worth P500 =D than buying an Iphone.

Love iPad as an eBook reader! The iBook shelf gives you a wide array of books to choose from and once you click on the selected book you want to read, it automatically prompts you to the first page. It then gives you the option to adjust the font size or the font type of your preference. Just by looking at it, you can tell the device has sharper text and its backlight is brighter compared to a Kindle.

Apple iPhone are good products but they aren’t cheap for us Filipinos exempt when you are rich. I think the best way to do is to wait for a few months until it’s price goes low.

Iphone is an iphone ive had 3g and 3gs and im just not comfortable with the new one especially with the price. grabe i guess you get what you pay for if your getting the new iphone. but one thing i know whenever i check with globe. hay nako para sa post paid. post paid ka nga eh parang wla naman advantage being a postpaid owner. para kaya ganun din mura ng ilang centimo. hay nako HOY mga taga globe ang sisiba kaya nyo no. tapos ang tatamad pa ng service puro ikutan lang ng ikutan para maubos ang time they just dont care about the people on cue…..mga tamad!!!!!
