Regarding your first point on the pros, on the flip side, you won't have that feeling of "having to pay". Unlike kung kumuha ka ng educational plan,
you'll treat it as a bill.

I had always though that I would have the discipline to do cost averaging
but it turns out that I don't. Tinatamad paminsan, may gagawin, etc.
The only cost averaging I still do are BDO and my Sunlife VUL because
I got it on ADA(auto debit arrangement)

Baka mapunta yung pang invest mo sa iba.

I guess the only thing you can't do yourself is the "achievement"
benefit. But I'm guessing the returns you would get with doing
it yourself would be a lot bigger anyways than getting an educational fund, so it balances out.

I think richpulubi's quote is directed to dudefullness33 and not to j_l ocz his statement comes after he quoted dudefullness33. :)

Actually, i treat my mf as #1 bill on my list. Of all my monthly dues, only MFs ang consistently me monthly reminder on  my mobile.

I do use online transaction for my savings in MF kaya mabilis ko syang mapondohan. Since been doing this quite a long now, it became a habit.

Oh by the way, my electricity, mobile, others bills are ADA with my bank account. I guess dont wanna be late on those bills due to penalty. :)

I have been searching for good UITF but so far when it comes to earnings i find the BPI Odyssey High Conviction the still the best.

I invested 4 days ago & the NAVPU already grew by 2.34%.
But obcourse  we cant tell if that can be sustained.....it will all depend  on what will be Europe's decision on Greece financial crisis.

Once the Greece bailout is approved by Eurozone, expect the NAVPU to shoot up sky high.

Comparing the funds of BDO and BPI, dami pala ng BPI and its ROI-YTD % shows better performance compared to BDO:

1. BPI = http://uitf.com.ph/toap/uitflist/uitflist.asp?BankCode=BPI
2. BDO = http://uitf.com.ph/toap/uitflist/uitflist.asp?BankCode=BDO

Tama ba igans?

With BDO and BPI as choices, I'd always go with BDO unless we're talking about Odyssey High Conviction, BPI index fund or ALFM Growth Fund.

switchiz, I can't find the BPI Odyssey High Conviction in the list. With BDO, what funds are your picks? :)

How did you do the comparison?

I agree with switch, overall... BDO has
better performance compared to BPI

Lets try to compare both YTD performances

Bond Funds
BPI ABF Phil - 4.1244%
BDO Fixed Income - 5.0861%

Balanced
BPI - (-1.2729)%
BDO - 3.2419%

Equity
BPI - (-0.2376)%
BDO - 1.3007%

Btw, only BPI's Equity and Cocolife's United Equity
MF seem to underperform our index PSEi regularly

Well at least Cocolife has an excuse, its united equity
MF seems to move slowly... During bear markets, it
usually will have a better performance but when
its a bull market, its performance seems worse...
Naiiwanan ng iba.

BPI's equity on the other hand, is just not that good
overall.. Even if its a bull or a bear market.

Also, BPI's ABF Phil Bond fund has historically
better performance compared to BDO's Fixed
Income.. Baka BDO just has a good year this year.

Odyssey is another matter altogether though.
Its funds were managed by ING before BPI bought
it.. And BPI just recently acquired it so lets see
if they can continue to maintain their performance =D

Yeah, the High Conviction fund is not in the list
Check bloomberg instead.. High returns eto pero
very volatile

igan mxherr5, thanks, sorry noob lang po. I checked back those funds that you have mentioned, I found that BDO indeed has better YTD performance. BPI's Odyssey funds has so far performed very well.

very risky investment..no insurance, only good for people with a lot of money..just mho

Or, lots of time. :D

I have both Equity UITF placement in these banks.

Which performs better?

I have BDO UITF and it performs well as of the 1st quarter.

Do you recommend it now?

actually dapat bumili kana yung February at the least time kasi mura pa yung NAVpU on that time at nag reach na ng peak of negative returns by the 3rd week of january ata althoug nasa negative roi-ytd pa siya nag-i-increase na yung investment mo....

As of this year, which do you think is better?
It is more important to know where you are going than to get there quickly. Do not mistake activity for achievement.
