^ that's right. Ang time deposit kasi malaki ang withholding tax tas maliit ang interest but your principal amount is insured.
ANg time deposit lumalaki ang interest ng investment mo pag matagal mong ilagak but in the case of Uitf posible yatang malugi ka pag mababa ang price pag redeem mo, so parang hindi guaranteed ang longer period , Am I right?
So in my case sad to say  I would opt to time deposit nalang lalo pa na wala ako sa Pinas para mag redeem ng investment ko.  Tanong lang sa mga nag invest na dito, kahit saang branches ba ng Bdo or Bpi mare-redeem ang pera mo?

Dont forget that even you have insurance from a financial institution like bank, your money is not safe from the enemy of money called "INFLATION"

Even if you get a TD that will give 4% and inflation is 5-6%/yr, your wealth did not grow. So think about it. I have been using banks to store my emergency funds and short term financial needs.

Kaya ka naman naglalagak sa MF/UITF is you need to beat Inflation for the long run. The real risk here is what will be it's return in the future.. +10%? -20%? +63%? 0%? . So technically you are investing with risk for hope of higher returns.

wala ring PDIC insurance ang UITF investment unlike time deposit.

I have read this a couple of times before...PDIC = Phil Deposit Insurance Corp..Time Deposit is a 'Deposit'. UITF is an Investment into a Fund. Therefore definitely, PDIC has got nothing to do with this. its an investment vehicle..not a deposit.

Deposit will have very small interest..coz of the risk involve. PDIC is there, just in case Bank falls apart.

MF's and UITF's is sort of like a 'company' doing trading of stocks, equities, bonds, etc. Like in any other company....companies can fail..or companies can succeed. We have to understand that this particular 'company' is invested in a lot of other companies. For it to lose value...a whole lot more companies or even industries will be in the red. It happened already in the past..and it can happen again the in the future. With the risk involve..there is money to gain...and money to lose.

Just my lay mans understanding on this.

Hi guys, I really find all your posts informative and insightful. I am planning to invest in May and have been reading up on different investment vehicles...after going thru all your posts...how do i make an 'intelligent decision' on buying low and selling high? the 10month period is acceptable but who tells me about timing?

actually dapat bumili kana yung February at the least time kasi mura pa yung NAVpU on that time at nag reach na ng peak of negative returns by the 3rd week of january ata althoug nasa negative roi-ytd pa siya nag-i-increase na yung investment mo....

nahulli nga ako eh, dati iniisip ko na dapat sa positive na roi ako mag-invest pero mali pala yun ang mas-imporatante makabili ka ng maraming units on a lesser price kasi sabihin na natin ang 10,000 mo ay puwedeng makabili ng 30 units compared sa 25 na lang kasi nabili mo yun sa mas mahal na NAVpU (the more number of units you bought on a lesser price is important, paramihan talaga ng units para kumita ka ng malaki or either syempre masmalaki investment mo masmalaki ang return diba), habang umaandar ang panahon nagmamahal na ang NAVpU take note wala na sa negative roi's at medyo gumaganda na ang economy and usually nasa nov ang peak sa dec. medyo unti-unti na bumababa yung roi and by jan negative na uli (based on the yearly trends).

Ang stocks, mutual fund at uitf, is practically almost the same kasi the more na pinalipas mo ng panahon ang pera mo masmalaki ang kita mo. Kung medyo risk tolerant ka at "tantyado" mo ang galaw ng economy in the future maslalo na sa mga "bear" times (negative roi) <***note***> i'll recommend na wag mo i-sell yung mga units mo kapag mag-be-bear na kasi dun ka maskikita

<***note***> on the previous years kasi 1 month lang or january or minsan umaabot ng feb lang "bear" pero this year yung iba nagulat kasi this april lang kaka-start mag-positive yung roi-ytd (pertaining to the charts) kaya unpredictable talaga and all of that is caused by inflation, libya and middle east, oil prices, japan and etc. kaya dapat dapat updated ka rin sa news na pwedeng maka-epekto sa economy......

all in all sa tingin ko its worth the risk na e-retain yung investment mo on the bear months kasi hindi mo na mabibili yung mga units na yon sa ganong price at don talaga kumikita tayo sa "pag-appreciate" ng value ng Navpu in the future baka pagbibili ka ulit ng units dahil winithdraw mo yung investment mo this dec ang 10,000 mo ay 15 units na lang ang mabibili and it is just natural na tumaas, sa tingin ko kahit kailan wala pa nalulugi dito maslalo na sa uitf kasi nakakalat ang pera mo sa ibat ibang equities hindi sya naka-concentrate sa isang companya lang kaya kung nalugi ang isa sa mga companya na pinag-invest ng banko mo hindi ka masyadong malulugi kasi may equities kapa sa iba pang companya na maganda ang takbo. kung malaki na ang lugi mo sa bear months isipin mo na lang safe pa ang principal mo ang nawawala lang sayo ay ang interest or roi tapos dagdagan mo pa units mo habang negative pa kasi don talaga ang time na mura ang Navpu maslalo na kung nasa bridge ng negative at "pa-positive" hindi positive, iba yung pa-positive sa positive. Siguradong bawing-bawi ka at mas mataas ang kita mo kaysa kung i-pu-pull-out mo pera mo pag bear months na tapos i-re-re-invest mo ulit, basta mag-set ka ng mark sa principal mo kasi pag nawala na yung mga gains mo or interest ibang usapan na yun pero in the history of uitf wala pa naman ata non.

Ang kumikita talaga ay yung mga taong kayang mag-take ng risk maliban na rin sa swerte at marami non ang nasa stock market na mayaman na ngayon or kahit at least a thousands of pessos richer ngayon, take note stocks appreciates big time only if you invest on it on a long time....................

in addition, ang alam ko return of investment(roi) or gains is computed by:

multiplying the current NAVpU of the day to the number of units you have or you have bought.

(current NAVpU)   X   (Units you have acquired)   =   Gains, including the principal

*just minus your principal obviously, to get your total real gains

Gains   -   (principal/ investment)    =   total gains

*so malaking factor ang number of units talaga (mas maraming units mas malaki ang total mo).

* i dont know kung net na yung gains, kung nabawas na yung management fee ng bank at nabawas na yung taxes, kasi for all we know ang "N" sa Navpu ay "net"(asset value per unit) pero alam niyo naman baka may mga charges (hidden) or fees and taxes pa rin na hindi pa kasama dyan.

*Ang alam ko may 4 banking days pa before your investment will run or incur losses or gains, pero kung bumili ka ng Navpu for that specific day and specific price, ganon mo talaga sya mabibili pero 4 days nga lang ma-pro-process, so kailangan tansyahin mo yung time so once na umandar na yung investment mo ay positive and maganda na ang retuns.....

*last year parang umaabot na sa 50%(on average or around that percentage, ang returns of uitf's of different banks, not yet including your principal), ewan ko lang ngayon kung kaya pa yun malagpasan or ma-retain man lang on that level roi.

.........................So anytime you can compute the performance of your investment as long as you have the data................................

hi guys, just want to add to the discussion, it seems that bdo equity uitf's can only be redeemed at the branch where you purchased it. i learned about that recently since i recently decided to relocate, and asked if i could redeem the certificates in a different branch. both the call center & branch said no, and i can just redeem my units and just buy again from the other bdo branch to continue my investment.i found it a little weird since bdo navpu's are the same anywhere, but nevertheless, i will still follow their advice and just reinvest in the other branch.

I can confirm this. I also opened one 2 weeks ago from another branch with a different account number because of this.

Anyway, I have a question because when I invested, the new branch stamped my certificate with a 'verified signature' stamp. The old one didn't. I was wondering if anyone noticed this?

ganon naman talaga pag over-the-counter diba, maslalo na trust product sya hindi naman sya savings account product and iba talaga ang management ng trust department/company compared sa banking lets say for example iba ang bpi (bank) sa bpi asset managemant or bpi trust department although they are on the same roof, and ang trust ay hindi pwedeng mag-interbanch ang pwede lang gawin na transaction na interbranch is deposit, withdrawal nga over the counter in different branch is prohibited eh...........
