i think there's no obligation. but it'll defeat the purpose of cost averaging. pede siguro 5k every two months or something.

di lang ako sure sa mga affiliated banks. i'm a BPI guy, and i do my transactions with COL thru the internet, same as with my sunlife vul.

eip is cool if you're too busy, and don't have time to think and analyze the market.

it is up to you if you want monthly or quarterly.
But if your plan is less than 1 year. then eip is not for your type of investing. at least 2 years or more to gain the benefit of eip. Since aside from the better ABILITY to gain better, if the company gives dividends that is an extra perk.

They have an account in BPI and Chinabank if I am not mistaken.
You can call their hotline to inquire the details

The program is really nothing new. Building a position slowly for long term capital gains is essentially what the plan is all about. So to a certain extent it is a  buy and hold strategy. One can do this on a cost averaging method where in a downtrending market or a consolidation you buy on dips to lower your average cost.

Can it work, yes, since eventually when the markets turn you should be able to realize gains. The only problem is that you do not know how long you will have to hold on. So, if you will be needing the cash then this may be a struggle, but if you are putting aside the cash and do not anticipate to need it then by all means go ahead.

Personally, I do not really believe in the buy and hold strategy since if you actively trade the market and watching the swings then you may be able to outperform such a passive method of investing.

cost-averaging is not a long term form of investment. EIP is a long term investment too. for me, investing is different from trading, in the stockmarket world.

cost-averaging is for people who don't have the time to trade in the market. that's why the investor should select a fundamentally good company to use in his/her cost-averaging (syempre sa trading kelangang kelangan din. hehe).

meron din value-averaging, for me, trading na din itong ganito. hehe.

but of course, trading will outperform cost-averaging, unless the person does not know when to enter and exit.

Hi sir Tuyuta! What would be the difference then if I actively trade with the blue chips myself? will they help me through reminders when to buy & when to sell? (enter/exit) hehe.
OK sakin to, I'm usually very busy.

Does it, can it (Or is it expected to) outperform MFs, VULs & UITFs in terms of returns? I read in one of the posts that pooled funds are eyeing blue chips for the dividends as well.

Maraming salamat!

sir ajik, i'm just a newbie in investing. i said that trading can out perform MF, UITFs, etc, etc, is because of the historical data of these instruments. tingnan mo yung historical data of these instruments, meron ata sa ICAP and PSE websites. then i did some math, and it's very obvious of he gains you can make with trading.

trading can outperform only if you'll make due diligence. you need to study and read and ask questions. kaya din mas mababa ang MF (equity), ay dahil may fund managers kang binabayaran dito. kumbaga, sila ang nagtratrade para sayo.

citisec will not tell you when to enter & exit. hehe. unless siguro magbabayad ka sa kanila, pero wala atang ganung feature. hehe. kung meron kang kakilalang beteranong trader, na hindi ipagdadamot ang kanyang kaalaman. hehe. sana meron dito para tulungan tayong mga newbies.

pero meron ang citisec na free seminars on trading. matututo ka naman e. just practice and take it slow.

if you're busy, then, MF Equity, or cost-averaging in stocks is maybe the one for you.

meron akong MF and VUL. but it's for diversification. hopefully, will enter real estate and business in the future.

right now is a good time to enter the stock market, but it doesn't mean you buy outright. kumbaga may timing pa din sa pagbili, maskina mababa ang prices ngayon. pero if you'll be "investing," then pede na siguro bumili ka ngayon, tapos balikan mo nalang after 5-10yrs. hehe. joke lang. pedeng ganun or pedeng you enter after you study a bit. hehe.

Anyway, they're always here to answer our questions (over & over again). In a few years, we newbies will be the experts & it will always be nice to share insights! Yeah!

Back to the thread: Its probably not a new strategy for traders, It could simply mean buy&hold as scalper55 says. The beauty of it is that it could help newbie Pinoys (investing in the stockmarket) get started in investing in stocks, learn & profit from it in the long run (because of cost-averaging).

marami din deskarte sa MFs, pede ding buy&hold, or cost-averaging. mahirap lang mag enter & exit kasi malaki kaltas ng entrance & exit fees ng MFs. ang term nila e Sales Load. ang MFs are long term instruments. parang bumibili ka din ng shares, kaso nga lang, ang term nila ay NetAssetValuePerShare. bumababa at tumataas din to tulad ng stocks. tsaka madami din klase ng MFs, may Bonds, Balanced, Equity. to distinguish the 3, marami sa google na explanation. hehe.

from my experience in life. kapag pinagkagastusan mo, o pinaghirapan ang isang bagay, mas papahalagahan mo ito at mas magiging responsable kang tao. kaya magandang virtue talaga yung ikaw magwowork hard to build your wealth, in bigger terms, to improve your life.

kesa yung aasa lang sa iba, or aasa lang sa biyaya. kaya ako e nagaaral tunkol sa finances. kapag gumaling nako, i'll teach it to those who don't have the means to study.

Just had to ask. Pwede bang mag buy-and-hold strategy when trading? Kunwari bear market tayo ngayon pero if you think in the long run babawi din naman, pwede bang i-hold ang pera sa stocks ng matagal? If so, what's the point of joining the EIP then?

if you have a lump sum, then buy in the bear market and leave it there.

cost-averaging. can be an advantage, because you can buy more at lower points, and buy less at higher points, regardless of where the market is. kumbaga, di ka na maghihintay ng bear or bull. di mo na iisipin ang entry points mo. another advantage is kung wala kang lump sum, and only have regular monthly(pedeng weekly, quarterly, basta't regular) savings. this is good specially to those who're just starting stage ng investor. yung pagkakaron palang ng habit or saving regularly.

after some time, kapag may mas alam na yung investor, pede na sya mag venture sa ibang strategies or instruments.

pede din sya sa busy investors na gusto lang mag diversify. yung busy at wala ng time magbusisi sa trading.

hope this helps.

EIP is not a financial product. It's just a feature on the CitisecOnline trading system that reminds you to invest in particular stocks on a regular basis. You get the reminder via email.

In other words, it's just a calendar that's built in to the system. You pre-program it with the stock you want to buy (e.g. TEL, BPI, AC, etc), how much you want to buy (in pesos) and how often (weekly, monthly, quarterly), and the start/end date of your reminders.

When you get the email reminder, you still have to go to the website to execute the buy transaction. At that point you can still change the stock or how much you want to buy.

If you don't go to the website to buy, nothing happens automatically.

That's all it is.
