The 50 Top-Ranked Blogs in the Philippines

Top 50 Philippine BlogsFor the past three years now, we have constantly tracked the Alexa ranking of most blogs in the Philippines (see the 2009 and 2008 Top Blogs list).

Yes, we know, the Alexa system has its weaknesses. But still its objective data — which is based on site visits, user pageviews, time on site, and search traffic stats, among others — can provide blog owners with an idea of how well their blogs fare with other blogs.

Without further ado, we present below the Top 50 Philippine Blogs in 2010, based on their 3-month Alexa traffic rank.

The Philippines’ Top 50 Blogs in 2010

[TABLE=75]

It’s been said before that the Alexa ranking system is not perfect. That’s why as a follow-up to this post, we are making another article showing the number of estimated visitors, bounce rate, and length of visitor stay in these top blogs. That way, we can compare the relevant site traffic stats of these blogs. Watch out for this list this week.

Going back to the Top 50 blogs, we see three key highlights.

Highlight #1: There is no particular niche dominating the list, but the category of most blogs in the Top 50 fall under:

  • Sports (specifically, Manny Pacquiao) – PhilBoxing.com, MannyPacquiao.ph, TeamPilipinas.info
  • News Aggregator – BatangasToday.com, DailyContributor.com, CoolBuster.net, Mukamo.com
  • Technology – Yugatech.com, JunAuza.com, JaypeeOnline.net, PinoyTechBlog.com, CebuTechBlogger.com, Newmedia.com.ph
  • Money and Business – PinoyMoneyTalk.com, Carlocab.com, Businessphereconsulting.com, MelvinBlog.com, JustMakeMoneyOnline.com, MixPH.com
  • Entertainment – Starmometer.com, BryanBoy.com, Rickey.org, ChuvaChienes.com, PinayCelebrityOnline.com

This means one blog can indeed be top-ranked regardless of its niche.

Highlight #2: This is probably obvious, but a “top blog” updates content several times in a week. A majority of the Top 50 blogs post a new content every day or every other day. This ultimately drives up traffic to the site and enhances user loyalty and repeat visits.

Highlight #3: A discussion forum complements well with a blog. At least 16% or eight sites out of the 50 (namely, Istorya.net, PhilBoxing.com, PinoyMoneyTalk.com, DotaStrategy.com, Timog.com, MotorcyclePhilippines.com, Mukamo.com, NursingCrib.com) operate a forum in their site’s sub-domain which contributes to more content, more user interaction, higher traffic, and consequently, higher Alexa rank.

Top Decliners and Gainers

In the past three years, we’ve seen blogs go up and down and even out of the top 50 list. We saw that the real “top blogs” are those that can sustain their Alexa ranks throughout the years. At the same time, we are seeing blogs that are already slipping down the list. If their owners will do nothing about this, perhaps next year their blog won’t be on the list anymore.

The Ranking System

This PinoyMoneyTalk.com’s list of the 50 Top-Ranked Philippine Blogs ranks only blogs that are “Filipino-made” and/or “made primarily for the Philippine market.” The blogs were mostly taken from the list in Topblogs.com.ph and Ratified.org.

We excluded blogs that have not been updated with new posts and also whose majority of posts:

  • feature nude or sexy pictures or videos of people;
  • offer free streaming or download of copyrighted music, videos, movies and other media;
  • offer downloads or provide links to downloads of themes, layouts, games, software, etc.;
  • promote sex, violence, terrorism, or discrimination

Some blogs tracked may have more sub-blogs or sub-sites which may affect the rank of that domain. Corporate blogs and subdomain blogs which cannot be separately ranked have been excluded from the list.
