Will the iPhone sell in the Philippines?

The launch of the Apple iPhone in the Philippines is just a few days away (on August 22, to be exact) but an analyst thinks the timing of the launch may just not be right.
According to an analyst of XMG Asia Pacific, the roll-out of the iPhone in the Philippines “came at a very bad time.”

Here are the prices of the Apple iPhone which will be sold by Globe Telecom starting August 22, Friday:
iPhone 3G prepaid kits
- 8GB starting at P37,599
- 16GB starting at P43,799
- Globe’s prepaid plans come with P200 load credit per month for 5 months. The first 1,000 phonekit purchases will also get an additional P1,000 discount off the purchase price.
iPhone 3G postpaid subscriptions
- Monthly fees range from P1,599 to P4,999
- Postpaid plans have a 2-year lock-up.

Globe Telecom to bring iPhone to the Philippines

Globe Telecom will be the official network carrier of the iPhone in the Philippines and units may be sold locally starting this September.
That’s according to an Inquirer news story and a short press statement published in Globe’s website:
Globe, SingTel, Bharti Airtel and Optus today announced that they have signed an agreement with Apple to bring the iPhone to the Philippines, Singapore, India, and Australia later this year.
