[PHOTOS, PRICE, SPECS] New Apple iPhone 6 and 6+

Apple finally gave in to the demands of consumers, releasing for the first time an iPhone with bigger display — two, in fact, the first one, a “regular” iPhone 6 with a 4.7-inch screen size and the second, a 5.5-inch screen size, called the iPhone Plus.

Here are some more details about the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

Specs

Size: The new iPhone is slimmer than previous models. The iPhone 6 is 6.9 mm thick, and the iPhone 6 Plus is 7.1 mm thick. In contrast, the iPhone 5S is bulkier at 7.6 mm.

Processor: Apple A8 processor that is said to be 25% faster and 50% more efficient than the A7 chip.

Resolution: The iPhone 6 sports a resolution of 1334 x 750 with 326 pixels per inch. The iPhone 6 Plus, meanwhile, has as resolution of 1920 by 1080 and 401 pixels per inch, equating to 1080 HD resolution. Both phones will use the so-called Apple Retina HD display.

Software: iOS 8, featuring new frameworks HealthKit and HomeKit, designed to enable health and fitness apps to work together, and to control internet-enabled home appliances in one place. The new iPhones will also utilize a new payment system called Apple Pay, a contactless payment method which uses Apple’s TouchID technology.

Apple Pay: Apple’s new contactless payment system replaces the use of an actual credit or debit card. With Apple Pay, a unique Device Account Number is assigned, encrypted and securely stored in the Secure Element, a dedicated chip in iPhone. These numbers are never stored on Apple servers and never shared with merchants or transmitted with payment. The user, therefore, does not reveal his or her name, card number, or security code to the cashier when making a payment.

Camera: 8 megapixels iSight camera with DSLR-style phase detection to speed up focus and a new imaging chip with better noise reduction and improved color tones. Optical image stabilization is available in the iPhone 6 Plus.

Color: The two new phones will come in similar colors as its predecessor — Silver, Space Gray and Gold.

Battery Life: Up to 14 hours of talk time, 11 hours of video and 10 days of standby.
