Green Philippine passports valid until April 2010 only?

And we thought the green Philippine passport is valid until its expiration date.
In January 2009, we wrote that the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirmed that the old, green passports can still be used by Filipinos until the validity date written on the passport.Says the official DFA statement on their website:
All green passports (non-machine readable passports) will be valid until the stated date of expiry.
But a news report on GMANews.tv about Philippine ePassports said manually scripted passports (i.e., the green passports) are valid only until April 2010.
Says the GMA News article:
[The DFA] clarified that machine-readable passports will remain valid until their expiration date. On the other hand, manually scripted passports will no longer be recognized starting April 10, 2010.
Which is which?
I hope the DFA issues a final statement regarding this. My green passport will expire in August 2011 and if this passport will no longer be valid by next year, then I should get a new one ASAP.
Update (January 2014): Green, Maroon MRP Philippine passports valid only until 2015

Why Filipinos do not become business owners or entrepreneurs

For a majority of Filipinos, entrepreneurship does not seem to be a typical, expected path. This is not surprising, considering that in school, students are primarily taught to become employees after graduation. Students train for years to become staff workers, reporting to a supervisor, and just waiting to receive their wages or salaries every month. ... Read more

  1. This is old news and yes Green passport will be valid only till 2010. I had mine renewed the other year even though it was gonna expire 2012.
I suggest to those who plan to travel change their passport to the new (brown) one ASAP. Besides, it is really faster when you queue to those immigration officers. They don’t have to manually check your details. The new passport can be machine “read”.

  2. the canadian embassy in Manila mailed a letter form my daughter ( 10 yrs old) to mailed to them her passport ( which happen to be a green passport and valid till 2012) for the issuance of her Visa in Canada (I sponsored her) it say’s in the letter that it is much easier to facilitate if we’re going send them a maroon passport ( but I thought it’s for all those who renew their passport and their validity is about to expired)that’s why my sister in law ( her guardian in the Phils) sent the requirements including the green passport to the Canadian embassy- Manila, now, my question is, is there any problem once the Visa issue in the green passport when she will flying here in canada soon? or is’t possible if when they issue visa in the green passport then we will going to renew ( for maroon passport)it before she fly here and attached the old ( green) which have a visa will there be a problem for that? can somebody gave me advice what to do..tnx!!

I just got back from hong kong/macau kahapon. well, as far as hong kong/macau is concerned ok pa. ang passports natin.

  7. Klaro ko lang po ang issue about Philippine Passport… pero gusto ko muna malaman nyo na currently we have 3 kinds of passport… first ang green passport… , second ang MRP or know as machine readable passport at lastly ang electronic passport (e-passport) or tawag nila dun is biometric passport.
(6 months before expiration usually dapat bago kayo payagan mag travel)
    Clear na po ba?
    Ngayon for additional info:
MRP issue pa at hinde E-passport.
