The year 2008 was a turbulent year not just for the Philippine stock market but for the Philippine blogosphere as well. For one, several bloggers were directly involved in a variety of issues, both good and bad. Last year also saw the rise of a lot of up-and-coming bloggers but, at the same time, a few previously popular bloggers simply stopped writing or just faded into oblivion.
In this article, we recognize Filipino blogs which made a huge jump in their Alexa rankings from the time we started monitoring blogs during the 1st quarter of 2008. A jump in the ranking most likely means the blog is getting more popular, translating to more visitors and perhaps more online income.
We also present here the quarterly change in the ranking of blogs from the 3rd quarter of 2008 to the 1st quarter of 2009.
The results below.
The Philippines’ 14 Blog Advancers in 2008
Based on the 1-year % change of Alexa rank
[Table=30]
Out of the initial 45 blogs we started tracking in April 2008, only 14 blogs managed to increase their Alexa ranks.
The biggest jumper in 2008 is Jehzlau-Concepts.com. The blog initially ranked #29 with an Alexa rank of 102,719 but in the latest tally for 1st Quarter 2009, the blog zoomed to #5, making a 62.2% jump in its Alexa rank in just one year.
Completing the Top 5 in terms of biggest Alexa rank changes are #2: 5ThirtyOne.com (56.1%); #3: Carlocab.com (48.6%); #4: TechAtHand.net (46.3%); and #5: Alleba.com/blog (46.1%).
As for the overall best ranked blogs today, find below the Top 50 Blogs as of the 1st Quarter 2009, determined based on Alexa’s 3-month traffic rank by end-March 2009.
The Philippines’ Top 50 Blogs, as of 1st Quarter 2009
Ranked by Alexa’s 3-month traffic rank
[Table=31]
The list is still dominated by old, known blogs. Only two new entries managed to get into the list this time (#21: NursingCrib.com and #37: MelvinBlog.com).
Two blogs which we have been tracking before but have been staying on the above-50 level finally made their way to the Top 50. These are JoanJoyce.com/blog (#34) and AboutMyRecovery.com (#48).
The 5 Biggest Gainers
Usually, a preview of who’s going to be on top is seen on who gain ranks the fastest. Here are blogs that gained the highest in terms of Alexa ranking (for the comparative 4Q ’08 and 1Q ’09 figures, refer to the table above).
- Ranked #2. Rickey.org : 53.9% increase
- #10. Alleba.com/blog : 53.7%
- #34. JoanJoyce.com/blog : 33.0%
- #25. JaypeeOnline.net : 32.6%
- #18. BuhayKorea.com : 30.4%
The 5 Biggest Decliners
On the other hand, those with declining Alexa ranks should be concerned because new blogs may push them out of the Top 50. Here are five blogs with the highest declines in Alexa rank as of the 1st Quarter of 2009.
- Ranked #1. DotaStrategy.com/blog : 38.1% decrease
- #47. DahanDahanLang.com : 36.4%
- #50. PinoyBlogoSphere.com : 35.4%
- #44. Cellphone9.com : 27.9%
- #40. Skirmisher.org : 27.1%
The Next 10 Blogs
On top of the 50 blogs seen on the list, here are some more blogs to watch out for. Sooner or later, these blogs ranked 51st to 60th may soon enter the Top 50 list.

Disclaimer
We reiterate that although the Alexa system may not be considered perfect, we are using it because it provides objective information about the apparent reach and popularity of Filipino blogs.
The Philippines’ Top Blogs List excludes blogs whose majority of posts:
- feature nude or sexy pictures or videos of people;
- offer free streaming or download of copyrighted music, videos, movies and other media;
- provide links to free downloads of themes, layouts, games, software, etc.;
- promote sex, violence, terrorism, or discrimination; or
- are mere aggregate of other blogs and sites
Corporate blogs and subdomain blogs which cannot be separately ranked are also excluded from the list.
If you know a blog that should be included here, please contact us so we can include it in the next update.
Wow… good work pinoymoneytalk.. keep it up! Hope to see you on top this year!!!
Woohoo!!! Ang galing talaga ni Jehz! Hehe… Sana naman ma-include din ang blog ko dito. 🙂
Tama hindi parating accurate yung list nila kasi may timeframe din silang sinusunod, hindi naman ganun kadaling iupadate yun kaya we never know, the blogging world can change sa isang iglap lang.
It’s every blogger’s dream to be included sa list…
Hindi ka ba nagsky rocket yung blog PR/ratings mo because of PPP? Hmm..it should have! 🙂
Uy, sana kasama ako dito, nasa 155k na Alexa ko e.
wow ang sipag mo mag update ng ranks! hehehe.. at andito parin me! wooot! yay!
Mga Idol, congratz! I hope to make it on the list someday. =)
Thanks James 🙂 Special mention pa sa itaas .. sipag mong mag update

Alexa’s not very reliable. I took down my Alexa tool bar and I guess Alexa rankings suffered. Our traffic actually went up on a daily basis. Even on days we had unusually high traffic due to major blog linkages, Alexa doesn’t respond. My guess is, other bloggers have pulled down their own Alexa toolbars, which means that even on days we get a lot of link love Alexa levels do not go up. Very few people seem to rely on Alexa anymore.
Do you use Google Analytics? In a previous post you mentioned a decline in Adsense earnings? Do you have CPM numbers you can publish so we can study it? Adsense right now is a minority money earner for PMP Today, which is sad because we have to do a little aggressive ad selling, which takes up time.
Btw, your site includes a forum, which shares url with this blog. I think traffic from the forum also translates to an addition to overall traffic for this site. Not to nitpick but you’ve also included Alleba which is a portal, and, again, blog shares the same url and isn’t a separate online entity. It’s a little misleading, not that I care that much about Alexa anymore. I’d be interested in a more reliable metrics. Is topblogsph reliable? I know bloggers are reluctant to publish earnings. This actually makes pinoy money talk unique because you publish your earnings, but I’m hoping we can match that with a more reliable metrics for better study. Hoep you;re well.
@jonharules, haha, nde naman masyado. Pero ang masaya dun, kahit hanggang ngayon may naloloko pa yung April Fools’ prank namin hehe.
@nerbs, will take a look at your blog and if it qualifies, it will be included in the next update.
@BrianB, thanks for the comments. The points you raised were the same ones we identified when we first started tracking blogs last year. Unfortunately, there really is no reliable metric available to assess the “best” or “top” blog. TopBlogs is OK but, as far as I know, it only counts the number of visitor. It can tell which blog is “most visited” but I’m sure several people will agree with me that number of visitors alone does not make a “best” blog. The primary reason we used Alexa is that it’s supposedly objective and it is able to compares sites without those sites having to “opt-in.”
Anyway, I don’t think I can show CPM numbers because that’s against Google’s TOS but probably next time I can show a chart comparing Adsense income, CPM, CTR and number of visits without mentioning the numbers. Adsense still remains the major money-maker for us. It’s recovering these days, fortunately, but it’s still lower compared to our performance last year.
http://TeamPilipinas.info – 218,833 (Alexa Traffic Rank)
Hi spor, as of the end of March 2009, TeamPilipinas.info has an Alexa rank of 295,613 and is ranked #73 on the list. Will continue monitoring it next update and we’ll see if it can enter the Top 50 then. Good luck!
Hey thanks. Im glad my blog was finally recognized as a Filipino blog. 🙂 Just need to work my way up… 🙂
hey i made it!

atmaxplorer.com not Atmaexplorer.com ^_^
wala po ung isang ‘e’
weee~ nasa top 100 ako!
Thank you James for taking the time to update this list each quarter. I’m pretty sure its a very time-consuming task gathering and comparing all the data and compiling it into this list.
Btw, there’s one pinoy blog that isn’t in the list, its TheWeblogZone by Rocky. Last time I checked, it had an Alexa rank of 86,834.
More power to you James and to PinoyMoneyTalk!
Congrats to all the pinoy blogs on the list! 😀
How can I include my blog on the list?
ay di kasali ung akin- http://inday-stories.blogspot.com
as of today 124, 397 alexa rank..
pano ba makasali?
yung akin din nakasali.. pano ba makasali sa list??..
ang alexa rank ng inday’s stories is 124, 397 as of this very instance..it’s blogspot like Salas Wild Thoughts..
ako siguro makakasali sa Top Blogs of 2058! grabe, may blogs pa kaya nun or nag-evolve na into something else?
Congrats to all who made it in the top ranks. Hopefully my blog will make it soon. Can it also be considered remakable when my blog which started a little over two months ago has now broken the 1 million mark (currently 857,432)? Current rate could make my site break the 100k mark before year ends. Kudos to all our blogs.
@sylv3rblade, change made! Congrats on being #24!
@Jaypee, thanks. Regarding TheWeblogZone, that has been noted. It will be included in the next update next quarter.
@randy and inday, just post the blog URL here and, if qualified, those blogs will be part of the next update.
@Graphire, I’m sure there are a lot of Filipino blogs that make huge jumps in their Alexa ranks but it would be too difficult to find all of them. It’s easier if we focus on the Top 50 blogs with the highest Alexa ranks.
added na james.. nasa taas na comment..tanx a lot..
Thanks for the reply James.
Here’s my blog: Daily Contributor
Blog URL: http://dailycontributor.com/
Thanks!
nakaka inggit… kelan kayo ako makakasali jan?
congrats to all 2008 winners… looking forward to 2009
Thanks for the add James!
I never trust Alexa. There are hundreds of way you can cheat on Alexa traffic and ranking.
Good luck then.
Makakarating din ako dyan balang araw. 6 months of blogging and now near to break 400K. It’s hard to attract readers in the finance field. Whew! 😀
I just wonder though if Alexa is really accurate since there are a lot out there claiming that it’s easy to manipulate?
hi there. first of all, i wanna commend you for such post. honestly, i have been trying to search for sites that features top philippine blogs thru alexa`s ranking and it`s not really easy, i mean, it`s been more than 6months since i started searching and it`s only now that i have found this post. haha. maybe it`s because of the fact that i am not really technically inclined when it comes to internet stuffs.
congratulations to the top blogs included in the list. they certainly deserve recognition.
also, i hope you`ll take time to visit my blog http://insearch4you.blogspot.com/. i am not sure if it would passed your qualifications but i am taking my chances. haha. just wanna be part or be one of those blogs that you track. i am hoping that you will surely consider me.
thanks. and kodus!
