Pinoy Money Talk or PMT is a blog and discussion forum about banking, trading, investing, and making money online and offline.

Beginnings

In late 2004, James Ryan Jonas, commonly known online as FutureGizmo, stumbled upon the world of High Yield Investment Programs (HYIP) while searching for ways to make money online.

After weeks of dabbling into the arena, he realized that most of these “high-yield programs” — so named because they offer astounding returns such as 12% return in 1 week or 100% interest in 1 month — are actually fraudulent “investment” programs that ultimately end up as scam.

He decided to make sure fellow Filipinos are made aware of this fact. Thus, in the discussion board of one HYIP, he posted a warning that the program should not be treated as a long-term money-making opportunity because it could not be sustained for a long time.

Several Filipinos found the post “detrimental to the program” and recommended that it be deleted. The remark was indeed removed but FutureGizmo was also banned from the site.

Evolution

That is when he decided to put up a website that would cater to the enlightenment of Filipinos regarding high-yield investing. On March 1, 2005, PinoyMoneyTalk.com was born.

Pinoy Money Talk or PMT started as a forum for Filipinos who are into HYIPs, a place where they discussed strategies to maximize returns and shared the best hit-and-run programs where they can make a few bucks the quickest. Eventually, however, members got tired of gambling in HYIPs and started looking for alternative ways of making money.

From then on, the PMT Forum expanded to include discussions on Affiliate Marketing, Google Adsense, Multi-level Marketing, Banking, Stock Trading, Forex Trading, Mutual Funds, and Entrepreneurship, among others.

Network

Starting in 2007, PMT members in Metro Manila have been regularly meeting for lectures and discussions on money-making and personal finance.

On December 8, 2007, members met for the Christmas Party and EB which included lecture talks on Surviving Personal Financial Crisis, Mutual Fund Investing, and Internet and Affiliate Marketing.

The Metro Manila EB during the 3rd quarter of 2007, on the other hand, had mini-seminars on Estate Planning, Variable Universal Life Insurance, Profitable Online Businesses that One Can Start Now, and Trading Ranging Markets.

In November 2007, the first provincial organization of the site — the PMT Cebu (Visayas) Chapter — was officially formed. Members from the Cebu (Visayas) Chapter have also started conducting money-related discussion series, and previous talks included Changing Money Perspective and Affiliate Marketing.

The Forum also became the launching platform for PinoyGoldeXchange.net, a Philippine-based e-gold exchanger that started operations in late 2006. Its owner and initial investors all came from PMT.

Recently, PMT members started venturing into the domaining business via the DomainMondo initiative.

The PMT Forum currently boasts of 6,200 members with 128,000 posts. The site is now becoming a meeting point for stock traders, forex traders, probloggers, work-at-home writers, affiliate marketers and just about anyone who is currently making or looking to make money online and offline.

People

Aside from managing the Pinoy Money Talk website, James currently teaches “Investment Management” and “Information Technology and Business” at a university in Quezon City.

He runs the PMT Forum together with co-administrator nailbiter, and moderators annanymous, Bentong, Emo, happykill, ingenieure, maaku, Mike QC, part_timer_lang, and rma2003.
