Best Performing Philippine Balanced Mutual Funds (as of July 2007)
August 31, 2007
Note: When analyzing mutual funds, do not simply look at the NAVPS or Net Asset Value per Share. This number does not necessarily say whether the fund is performing well or not. The change of the NAVPS over time does. Never assume that a fund with high NAVPS means it is generating high returns. Actual historical returns can be used to gauge performance but be reminded as well that past performance is and will never be a guarantee of future results.

Globelines charged me for calls I didn’t make
August 30, 2007
I've heard several stories in the past about people claiming that their landline company charged them for phone calls they did not make. I didn't think it would happen to me, but in my first-ever Globelines billing statement, it did. Here is my story.

2007 Philippine Nursing Exam Results crash servers
August 27, 2007
The release of the results of 2007 Philippine Nursing Examination caused server outages in websites that featured the exam results.
These included the Philippine Regulatory Commission site (www.prc.gov.ph) that carried the official announcement and the Philippine Daily Inquirer site (www.inquirer.net) which took down a pdf copy of the results following the outage and instead offered a simple HTML format. Several sites and blogs that offered a download of the results also suffered bandwidth breakdown.
For those looking for the information, here is the Philippine Nursing Exam Results 2007, with a list of the 10 Board Topnotchers and links to the complete list of exam passers available for download.
Fake YouTube videos being used to spread malware
August 26, 2007
If you received an email from someone you do not know with a link to a YouTube video, don't click the link. It might be a download link for a trojan or worm that can harm your PC or trigger a case of identity theft.
Today I received an email from a certain natblaze@jwmolding.com inviting me to watch a particular YouTube video. The supposed video, however, is not on YouTube but on a different site — http://89.179.33.84/ — and visiting it automatically prompts you to download an .exe file. (WARNING: Do not visit the site if you do not want your PC to be compromised.)
The .exe file is most probably a malicious software (malware) such as trojan or worm.
A Trojan is a program that installs backdoor programs in a person's computer that allows unauthorized remote access to the victim's machine. A Worm, on the other hand, is a self-replicating program that sends copies of itself to other computer terminals without the need for any user intervention. These malicious softwares are normally used to steal passwords of the victim which are used for identity theft.

The ‘penis’ lamp sticks out
August 25, 2007
stick out.
Phrasal verb.
- 1. To be obvious or noticeable; to stand out.
- 2. To project or protrude.
- Source: AllWords.com
Spotted today at a store in Market! Market! mall at The Fort: a lamp that truly sticks out (see Definition 1).

Can’t figure it out but there’s something in the lamp that really sticks out, err… that makes it really stick out.
LOL.
What’s not to like at the Taste Asia 2 Bloggers’ Party?
August 25, 2007
The perfect opportunity to network with other Filipino bloggers, lots of prizes and giveaways, and of course, free food! What’s not to like at the Taste Asia 2 Bloggers’ Party?
Hundreds (was it 300 or 400?) flocked yesterday night to Taste Asia, beside SM Hypermarket at the Mall of Asia to eat, drink, and be merry with fellow Pinoy bloggers. SM Hypermarket treated the bloggers to lots — yes, a lot! — of free food and drinks (the cost, of course, was not an issue because SM’s going to recoup it in the form of link love to their site and invaluable word-of-mouth publicity, just like this article!).
Anyway, it’s my turn to spread the link love to the people I met at the party (in the same order I met them): Mimi and Karl of CliqueBooth and Peyups.com (mga bossing, nice to have finally met you!), Jedi, Ronnel, Marghil, Jun, Tom, Karl, Jehzeel, Kirby, Allen, Noemi, Jhay, Dax, Ederic, Jayvee, Jozzua, Aileen, Eugene and Marc.
If ever I missed anyone, sorry! Just post a comment and I’ll send my link love.
