Which is safer to invest? on a mutual fund or unit investment trust fund like the ones being offered by metrobank? Anyone who invested on this?  i'm a more conservative type of investor..hehe

may nabasa na ako dati dito sa forum about this:

http://www.pinoymoneytalk.com/2006/09/28/uitfs-vs-mutual-funds/

as far as i know, sa mutual fund may options ka rin. equity (aggressive), bond ( conservative) at balanced fund.

Pareho lang ang fund types ng UITF, lx638. May money market, bond, balanced, equity at index funds din sa UITF.

Money market, bond/fixed income funds are indeed the more conservative investments, in that they carry less volatility, but they are not without risks. There was a sharp correction in the bond market in May of last year and UITFs were hit worse than MFs. The decline in prices led to a major sell-off that drove prices further down, the banks were ill-equipped to properly advise their investors of the risks. It's important to note that mutual fund representatives have to undergo an SEC exam and attend an SEC-accredited training program to become licensed investment reps. Banks only send their account reps to a seminar, there's no exam/licensing system in place.

Narito ang performance ng bond MFs last year: http://www.pinoyinvestor.com/2007/01/2006-return-of-philippine-bond-mutual-funds/

2006 returns ng Metrobank money market and bond funds na listed sa Trust Officers Association of the Philippines website:

Metrofund Starter: 10.7972%
Metrofund Peak Earner: 13.7437%
Metrofund Elite: 13.6964%
Metrodollar Philippine Liquid Fund: 7.0575%
Metrodollar Philippine Bond Fund: 9.6922%

Unfortunately, they don't have figures for Metro Invest Plus and Metrodollar Asian Bond Fund. November 30 pa yung huling YOY figures sa website nila.

YOY figures as of Nov. 30, 2006:

Metro Invest Plus: 12.179%
Metrodollar Asian Bond Fund: 4.594%

buti ka pa lx638 nagsho-shopping ng investment products ngayong post-holiday season... dagdag lang, last year around october nag-inquire rin ako sa metrobank about their uitf... kaso diniscourage ako nung mismong branch manager, she insinuated na maging cautious in getting into that type of investment dahil nga maraming napaso nung bumagsak ang uitf nung mga april-june ata... hindi nga kasi guaranteed yung profits and pag minalas pa, baka lumiit lalo principal mo. siguro maraming umaway dun sa bank manager nung naging volatile masyado yung uitf and hindi nila naexplain masyado yung risks or di naintindihan nung mga depositors/investor.. so ngayon pati mga bank officers nag-iingat sa pagsalestalk on their uitf..

but in the long run mukhang maganda pa rin naging performance nila based on the YOY data na binigay ni nailbiter... laki ng difference kung ni-time-deposit mo lang... basta, just allow the investment to recover at wag magpanic kung bumaba man ang value every now and then...

Hi,nailbiter.Since na mention na dito ang bond mutual fund, may tanong sana ako.For example, yung sa sunlife bond fund with a 11.97% return(naku tama ba figure ko,hina memory ko kasi)net na ba sya or meron pang interest na binibigay.Kasi dito sa Taiwan, since diba ang bond fund iniinvest nila sa government bonds (na nagbibigay ng interest) bale aside from their performance return nagbibigay din sila ng interest.I will mention one, FRANKLIN U.S. GOVERNMENT FUND,one year performance nya is 9.73% aside from that may bigay pa silang interest na 6.11% so a total of 16% .How about sa Pinas, hiwalay ba sila or magkasama na?Sana may makasagaot nito, salamat po :welcome:

OT: If there are any dividend or capital gain distributions, hiwalay talaga yon. Any distributions of dividends or capital gains would be net of expenses and losses. The performance/NAVPS is based solely on the value of the bonds in the portfolio.

I used to have MIP what's good about his UITF is it has systematic investment which every month you are force to place a minimum of 1.5k deducted from your savings deposit.
