Very shrew talaga etong impeachment complainant ni CJ Sereno.

By throwing out the story about a tycoon ready to give 200M pesos to senators who will acquit Sereno, he hit two birds with one stone while claiming to not believe what he himself related thus evading any legal trouble.

First bird hit is to dissuade senators from acquitting or at least place doubts over they would vote for acquittal.

Two, he managed to flush out those senators are might vote for acquittal. Obvious ba na yun mga unang nag-react violently ay possibleng boboto pabor kay CJ?

Naku, mainit etong 4 Supreme Court Justices (1 is retired) kay CJ Sereno.

They're painting the CJ as a shrewd and arrogant person who likes to have her own way no matter what. Hmmm ...

Ah, Justice Carpio is willing to testify pala?
Looks like CJ Sereno may have an ally?

Still, it takes a lot of chutzpah and gumption for CJ Sereno to hang on.

Next Sereno Impeachment hearing is Jan 18, 2018 ...

During the impeaching trial of then CJ Corona, all the Justices, employees and personnel of the SC supported the then CJ except for SERENO

Is it true that SERENO was even willing to testify against Corona but was not given the chance?

WOw! KARMIC VIBES!?!?

The CAT is OUT of the SENATE BAG.
DU30 allies cannot muster the 2/3 votes needed to convict CJ Sereno.

Kaya nag dare na si CJ Sereno ... "File it na ...!"

HOR, what do you say?

Hmmm ... is it true that no copies of CJ Sereno's previous SALNs can be found?
I meant the SALNs for the time when she was teaching at UP ...
No copies can be found with the JBC nor with the Commission on Appointments?
Meron din kaya missing SALNs while she's with the SC?

Hindi sya nag-file ng SALNs before becoming a judge in the SC? Even tho she worked for the government for quite a long time?

CJ Sereno could not categorically tell her colleagues in the SC that she did not violate the SALN law.
Ergo all 13 SC Justices meeting in the en banc meeting (one was on leave) told (demanded?) her to take an indefinite leave of absence.

CJ Sereno Spokesman then told the press that she is only taking a "wellness leave". Aha! This created such a stink that this spokesman was branded a liar. (I think that is why CJ Sereno has a personal fall guy, este, spokesman - to evade accountability and have deniability)

Now the 13 SC Justices have actually published a letter to refute the pronouncement coming from the camp of CJ Sereno. CJ Sereno has also issued a public apology (was she forced to do so?).

Classic "kapit tuko"?

Now we know that the SC Associate Justices (all 13 present) made the decision to force CJ Sereno to take an indefinite leave.

Since the SC Associate Justices cannot kick out a CJ nor can they force one to resign, this is the strongest move they can make.

WOW! My impression is they want her OUT!

And we here SC SC Associate Justice Carpio coming out to say that "We want to preserve the integrity of the Supreme Court."

DOUBLE WOW! Coming from a perceived to be ally, is SC Associate Justice Carpio saying CJ Sereno has no integrity and is in fact besmirching the SC?

Sabagay, he is the most senior SC Associate Justice ...

House strategy to remove CJ Sereno - humiliate her into resignation - has failed. Why not impeach her? Both sides know that the numbers game in the Senate - not enough DU30 die hard supporters.
No wonder the CJ is so brash about going to the Senate for her day in court.

But even with numbers on her side, she still has to come up with some sort of defense?

Side effect - discovery of her failure to file SALN over many years while working for the govt.

IMO, it will be that the SALN requirement is not in the Constitution, but only set by the JBC. So the JBC has the right to waive the same requirement. This is actually legally defensible.

Meanwhile, CJ Sereno couldn't dispute this fact when confronted by the SC en banc resulting in the Supreme Court en banc to unanimously forced her to go on an indefinitely leave of absences.
Is this the equivalent of a suspension?

Picking up on this, Solicitor General Jose Calida filed quo warranto petition with the SC. The Supreme Court may remove CJ Sereno this way except some Associate Justices may fear possible public backlash, if not from the majority, at least from the noisy influential ones.

Now this strategy is also legally defensible!
Quo Vadimus?

Excerpt from https://businessmirror.com.ph/serenos-supreme-court-imbroglio-and-hitlers-carl-schmitt/

"Legal luminary and former Sen. Rene Saguisag claims Republic Act 6713 that he coauthored, which requires SALNs, “only slapped a maximum fine of P5,000 if convicted.” It was also “meant more as an administrative, not a criminal offense,” and never as basis for an impeachment."

Sen Saguisag is right. I only wished that he had also publicly proclaim this during the impeachment trial of ex-CJ Corona.
Well, lesson learned. Even highly regarded people can be biased.
Now I have 1 less person on my pedestal of political figures.

CJ Sereno now using "Judicial Independence" as a defense.
Whatever her qualifications, we have to admit that she is one spunky lady with a good PR team behind her.

A Quo Warranto case has already been filed with the Supreme Court.
The SC has in turn instructed CJ Sereno to respond.

So if she is eventually removed by the Supreme Court based on this Quo Warranto case, then wouldn't that be the ultimate "Judicial Independence"?

DU30 officially entered the fray to unseat CJ Sereno.
Bakit galit na si DU30?
