In this thread, let's share what we think is(are) the best credit card(s) that the Philippine banks has to offer.

  • membership fees
  • interest rates
  • customer service
  • ease of payment
  • credit limit increase
  • online use (e.g. flight booking, hotel booking, purchasing online)
  • benefits and rewards
  • freebies, discounts and special privileges
  • other factors that are important for you upon owning a credit card

Thank you!  :-D

I would have to say that it's the EastWest bank Platinum Mastercard, it has a waived annual fee for life, high credit limit, excellent customer service, ease of payment tru their online banking facility, secure online transactions with the optional virtual card , freebies with minimum purchase amount and also rewards points earnings ... Now what more can you ask for, besides it's the only llocally issued Platinum card that is FREE !

^^ Awww... So sorry to hear that, banks (or credit card companies) sometimes can be really bitchy when screening up  credit card applications. Don't take it too personally. I applied for a BDO credit card when I still working sa Pinas, earning a basic salary of 56K/mo, and I still got rejected. Go figure.
My brother also just decided to get a credit card this year (@ 33 years old, lolz) and he sent out applications to 5 banks, those banks who required a lot of documents where the ones who didnt approve a credit card, the one who conducted the least CI and required the least documentation was East West Bank. He got a classic visa card from them I think.
Just send out application forms to all credit card companies and banks offering one (preferably choose a card with low annual fee and finance charges) and I'm sure one application will come back approved.  :D

There is a scoring point when applying credit card kahit nga may bank account ka sa kanila they will disapprove you for Credit card application unless its been 2 years of savings account... If your employed they will take a look on your tenure at your current job plus if your payslip is not loaded with SSS, PAGIBIG loan etc etc... So kahit you're earning 50k a month if makita naman nila net mo is less than 15k na lang they won't approve you.

Well, I currently have a loan with SSS payable until next year pero other than that, I don't have any large liabilities in my account. I was rejected by Citibank, EW and BPI because of different reasons. Nagtataka lang ako sa EW kasi hinanapan nila ako ng statement of account from other CC. Does that mean that they're not open to new-to-card applicants? Unfair! :(

baka dineclare mo may other CC ka bakit ka hahanapan ng SOA kung wla kang CC else meron kang CC before... mahirap pag new applicant tapos new ka lang sa work mo antay ka ng next year yan maapprove ka na pero depende pa din... sabi ko nga may scoring yan lahat may factor dyan salary mo kung pasok ka ba sa minimum qualification halimbwa 180,000 annually ka pero nagrerent ka lang pala ng tinutuluyan mo.. Ang pinakamadaling diskarte na nagwork naman sakin is open a savings account maglagay ka regularly or magpark ka  kahit 20,000 lang stay with your job at least 1 year for sure approve ka dyan kahit saang bank hehe

Magdeposit ka po BDO and/or PNB ng 500k. Di mo na po kailangan mag-apply. Padadalhan ka po nila ng CC.

Wala akong dineclare kasi baka mas lalo akong mabadshot eh. Hahaha. Saka more than 1 year na ako sa trabaho ko eh.

Kse when I applied sa BDO back then, ung kaltas lang sa payslip ko are taxes, and the usual gov't contributions (SSS, Philhealth, Pag-ibig), not renting a house too (living with relatives), had a car (fully owned, not mortgaged), if I remember correctly nag ne net ako nun ng mga 40k/mo. So overall if I assess myself at that time, I would say na I have a good credit score. The only thing was I don't have was an account with them. I got HSBC instead of BDO. Less hassle coz I got to talk to an agent (he paid me a visit sa office) and got the card aprrox. a week later.

BPI is ok. my only problem is lack of security when using online. I had my brother given suplementary and he successfully used it to buy cebupacific ticket online. If sya nakapagbook, then it should easily get used by someone by just reading info at the back of the card. At least hsbc or citibank requires to enter password.

citibank ang daming marketing calls which i hate. useful outside the country.

hsbc naman, they do not have toll free when abroad. Had them call me but no avail.poor support.
they keep increasing also the credit limit each year. Mine already reach 500k+ credit. I'm asking them to lower to 100k but looks like their support is sh*t.
security is good though. I had registered my card on google play and they stopped my card because they can't reach me to verify that transaction.

had amex platinum before it was on bdo, everything was perfect until most places that i went to in US doesnt accept amex. hehe. so i had it cut. I like the free lounge in Naia.

So in short i'll go with BPI again if they put up some nice security when using online.
I usually go to places like china and creditcard fraud is an issue.

Hindi ko nabasa lahat ng earlier posts.

Hindi kailangan ng P500k para magka-credit card. Mag-apply lang para sa secured credit card, magdeposit ng collateral (more or less P10k na ilalagay sa time deposit), at pwede ka na magka-credit card. Applicable ang ganito sa BPI.

That's Where the BPI E-credit (Virtual) card is Use for, It's Always an Option to Request for One if it Hasn't Been Sent Automatically Yet Which in my Case It Was Without Requesting for it ...

you can use the e-credit or the normal credit card to make purchase.
Makes no sense to have e-credit except to restrict credit limit incase it got hacked online.
security risk because you often use the normal creditcard to make purchase on stores/shops,restuarants and they can just easily copy the details on your card and use it online. This is the reason online purchases using the creditcard requires password/secondary password for hsbc or secure token.
My DBS creditcard will send sms to my phone for one time pin. BPI security doesn't have those.

i have ecredit and normal card of bpi before by the way.
I always buy stuff online but i hate it if the normal card can be used online easily.
security is important. Nasa huli ang pagsisisi if nahack

Online sir since I don't have the time to go to their branches. I have a colleague who applied online and was approved. Kaya akala ko ok.

Again para di OT: What do you guys think of Unionbank CC? My mom has it for the longest time and I don't hear any complains coming from her, not like Citibank (dami daw hidden charges).

All BPI cards have the EMV chip on it so it's not that easy to copy them and is one of the reason I prefer BPI cards compare to other local card issuers  who doesn't have it on their card yet ...

i didn't mean clone the physical card itself. i did mention security of that card to be used online. You don't really need to clone a card to make purchase online. Just creditcard number/expiration date which every waiters/cashier can see whenever you pay using your card. And details like home address/phone numbers can be easily searched at facebook or other means.

one can easily memorize the displayed information on the card, search for user's billing address somehow and phone on the internet and poof...they can use that to purchase cebupacific tickets :)
Wasting also your time complaining to bpi support that you didn't make that purchase and hoping that they remove that from your bill.

Some banks specially abroad sends sms whenever you have creditcard transactions which still not yet in PH.

obviously you like your BPI card. i like it too. Just that only flaw i didn't like which lead me to terminate it.

15 years na yung bpi ko,, wala pa ako naging problema.
Free for life na yung annual fee.
Mas madali nga mag apply noon kasi nung nag apply ako, wala ako maibigay
na mga requirements, pero after 3 months,
may tumawag ok na daw yung card.
Binigyan ako ng15k na credit limit,,, kuripot  :D

hehe. 15k is not so bad.
you'll actually be tempted to use it if malaki limit. You can always request to increase it in due time if you are a good payer and user of the card. :D
My first card was with them also. they gave me 30k limit probably out of generosity.

First card is usually the hardest to apply specially if low monthly income.
Then eventually the next one is simplier.
Now i only keep two card, one here in HK and one in PH for use ni misis kapag uwi pinas. good to have backup also if one doesn't work somehow.

What Seems to be the Problem ...  :coffee:

-Applied last May 1, emailed the complete requirements as per their letter of acknowledgement.
-Didn't receive any response from them even if I emailed them multiple times.
-I finally called them last June 26. Their agent said I needed to submit an " unexpired POEA Contract". I said I didn't have that (in SG we don't seem to be required to have this), but I have the OWWA certificate which is valid for 2 years. The OWWA certificate is one of the valid ID's that can be submitted as per their letter of acknowledgement. I emailed this to them.
-Didn't receive any response again until July 9. I called them again and the response again is that I needed to submit an unexpired POEA contract. (Don't they take notes of my previous call?  >:( )  I said that was the same thing that I discussed with their agent during my previous call. They said they will "forward" this to their processing unit.

Now I am waiting for feedback from them again.

I have an active BPI express online account, trading account, and uitf/mutual fund account so I am not sure why they are having problems verifying that. My father applied for a BPI credit card in a local branch even later than I did, but now he already has his card.

I think their online application system and call center is a mess. It's much better to apply from a local branch.

I just want to know kung ano ang pinakamadali i-apply na credit cards? Hindi kasi gaano malaki ang sweldo ko and considering that banks have annual income limit na medyo malaki laki. Any advice?

Maraming salamat sa inyo.

^ same experience with RCBC.

In my case, the call center can't even answer questions or handle my inquiries properly. Ironically, RCBC is supposed to have sold bankard, and yet the bank branch is still better at resolving a customers problems than the card companys contact center.

Hahaha. Pareho pala tayo. May savings, direct save up and investment din ako sa kanila.  2 years na ako sa work ko by end of this month.

I Get SMS Notification Everytime I Use my EastWest and Maybank Cards that were Locally Issued ...

I have EastWest also. NO SMS notice of usage tho.
My experience with BPI has been great.

I got my EastWest CC before I had an account with them. Wala rin ako transaction with them. They just send me an EW-Hyundai CC after I bought a Hyundai.
Meron yan rebates in the form of Cash Vouchers usable at Hyundai dealers. I was able to redeem them naman.

But this year, tried to redeem again. Called up for redemption months ago, Made follow ups months ago rin. Up to now, WALA pa rin. On top of that, gustong i charge ang annual fee. Ayaw ko then they agreed naman. I'm thinking of terminating it na nga eh.

Sa BPI and BDO I get my gift checks/items in less than 2 weeks. Every time! Never have to pay for annual fee also.
