Common interpretation : Expat usually sent by company to other countries. Ofw usually via agency ü

EXPATRIATE:
to withdraw from residence in or allegiance to one's native country
to leave one's country to live elsewhere
to renounce allegiance to one's native country
to send into exile
to remove oneself from residence in one's native land
to give up residence in one's homeland
one who has taken up residence in a foreign country
one who has renounced one's native land

OFW:
a filipino working outside the philippines

i have seen the expat pinoy spots on tv. clearly, the aim is to glorify and instill some semblance of pride on OFWs and their families, but i personally believe calling OFWs expats is a little misguided.

We can start calling our OFWs as expatriates. However, some smart people in the government a few years back decided to call them OFWs. Remember before, OFW's was OCW's...Overseas Contract Workers. So, theres none.

Kaya nga @ pulubing_palaboy sinabi ko na theres none... It doesn't matter whether you call them OFW or Expat.

OFW = less salary, less allowance
Expats = higher salary, more allowances

:P

@ pulubing_palaboy, okay kung iyan ang pagkakaintindi mo sa Expat at OFW.

@ GoodSteward, you nail it man! I agree with you!
