Sometimes, my Landbank Visa is declined in online transaction.  :huh: My solution? I opened a BPI My ePrepaid MasterCard which is reloadable and I linked it with my BPI Savings Account. Now, I do not need to worry for some of my online transactions.   :yehey:

I just got charged 2.7k++ by HSBC for a 5k unpaid amount last month. I had been contacting their customer service by e-mail for a computation of my finance charge for almost 3 weeks now (based abroad), still no response. Sarap sapakin. :boxing: They gave me a finance charge and a deferred finance charge. Nag dry out na ata dugo ko from boiling sa tagal ng clarification nila. right now nasa stage na ko na more on curiosity how that (finance charge of more than 50%, what the heck) happened than angry at them.  :bahalaka:

Hmmm, very interesting thread,

On my part just recently, they have me billed my annual fee without informing me beforehand. I mean, they always contact me even if i'm in a meeting (they always callback) to promote promos on insurance, cash loans, extensions and whatsoever.

But apparently, i'm disappointed with it- for i'm planning early this year to have it waived by utilizing my accumulated points :'(

Hi beannie... what's the latest on your credit card problem (finance charges)? Hope to read more from you as I'm sure many others have experience and will experience a similar issue. What I can tell you is, hindi ka nag-iisa! :D

Hopefully these concerns na naeecounter natin ay mabawasan sooner or later and that will happen if we all continue to be vigilant and provide feedback about our experiences or problems to the banks and even to BSP if you're inclined to. As for general matters and rants you can share here to release your angst and we will commiserate with each other hahaha... :D

btw, for everyone's info, may recently nailabas na regulation from BSP, on pre-approved credit cards. May existing PROHIBITION on pre-approved credit cards na a long time ago, but the banks and issuers always find a way to circumvent and make a mockery of our regulations. So this time nag-specify na talaga ng acts tantamount to issuing pre-approved credit cards so that these card issuers can no longer deny na hindi daw "pre-approved" yung mga pinapadala nilang credit cards kahit unsolicited.

BSP forbids these 7 marketing antics of credit card companies

MANILA - The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) made its rules against peddling pre-approved credit cards tighter.

Under Circular No. 845-2014, the BSP provided explicit definitions of "pre-approved credit cards," whether issued by banks or non-bank financial institutions (NBFI), in the BSP-issued Manual of Regulations that govern either type of supervised entities.

The definition is as follows:  "Pre-approved credit cards are unsolicited credit cards issued by credit card issuers to consumers who have not applied for such credit cards."

Furthermore, the BSP included an explicit definition for "application" in the Manual of Operations of banks and NBFIs. The definition is as follows: Application is a documented request of the credit card applicant to a credit card issuer for the availment of a credit card. The intention and consent for the availment of the credit card must be clear and explicit."

The BSP circular also detailed acts that are tantamount to issuing pre-approved credit cards. These acts, which are listed in appendices to the Manual of Regulations that govern either banks or NBFIs, are as follows:

- Sending of credit cards to consumers with no prior application, written request and supporting documents required for prudent credit card evaluation;

- Sending of unsolicited supplementary cards and other cards with added features which are not in replacement or substitute to an existing cardholder's initial credit card;

- Unsolicited calls by credit card issuers requesting updated information from selected clients in order to be entitled to receive credit card as a reward for his/her continued patronage of the bank's other financial products;

- Unsolicited calls by the bank to its depositors informing them that they already have a credit card from the bank's Credit Card Department due to good standing as a depositor;

- Sending of mails with credit card enclosed which will be deemed accepted upon the receipt of such card by a receiver, whether authorized or not;

- Sending to a consumer an unsolicited credit card which is deemed accepted unless a request for termination is promptly instructed by the cardholder to the credit card issuer; and

- Sending of credit cards as free offers to consumers who availed themselves ofthe bank's other financial products.
"The acts described above and other similar acts are deemed tantamount to the act of issuing pre-approved credit cards notwithstanding any contrary stipulations in the contract," the circular read.

The tighter rules against pre-approved credit cards come amid aggressive marketing by banks and NBFIs of their consumer credit products. Consumer loans issued by banks have continued to expand, against the backdrop of the Philippines' robust economic growth, which in turn has been by and large consumer-driven.

Despite the rise in household loans, the BSP said the share of consumer credit to overall bank lending remains well below the levels seen in neighboring Asian countries.
