Hi po!  Anyone here who's familiar with ALFM Funds of BPI?  Is this really a mutual fund or some sort of UITF? HOw is it?  Im planning kasi sana to start an account here.

Need your precious advice mga friends.  Salamat po!   :thankyou:

I am subscribed to 2 ALFM funds (Growth and US Bonds). But I also dabble in individual stocks through BPITrade.

Personally, I prefer buying individual stocks than investing in pooled funds primarily because of that annual 1.5 - 2% management fee, and other fees like backhand fees, early withdrawal, etc. But I still keep my ALFM accounts as my benchmarks, ie my stock picks should at least beat or at par with my mutual funds or might as well give the whole reins of my portfolio to them fund managers.

However, if you are a new to investing, may I recommend a fund that reflects the PSEi composite index -- ALFM has a version of this if you are an aggressive investor, if you're more conservative, try their bond funds.  Then do subscribe to this fund every month (do peso cost averaging).

One of the pros of ALFM is that it's easy to transfer funds using and if you wish you may enroll your account so that you can buy shares of the fund automatically every month.

However the most important thing before investing is that you have done your homework.  This includes having an emergency fund (mutual funds are not emergency funds!), having no debt (this include credit card debt), you have a budget (factor in mortgages, groceries, monthly expenses etc.) that you can comfortably work with, and more.

Then learn about the companies you're invested in or the people handling your money.  Nothing beats an informed and intelligent investor.

I hope this helped.

Oops, I guess I didn't really answer your question. The answer is yes, ALFM Funds are mutual funds, the UITF versions are called BPI Investment Funds or Odyssey Funds.

You could have easily have had known this if you went to their website at

Wow!  thank you very much agapanthus, I am greatly enlightened with your advice.  You're right, I must have stable finances first before i can start investing.  That's why i will have to pay my credit card first this month hehe.  And one thing more is that hindi pa ako composed kung saan ako mag-iinvest.  There's so much coming in my mind that's why this forum is really a great help.  Sabi kasi ng mga investment guru "do not put your money into something that you don't understand".  I have to educate myself more pa.   :thankyou:

Thank you!

Mutual funds po yung ALFM na associated with BPI. I have subscribed to PSIF. Equity yun for aggressive investors. It's for my retirement. I already have my emergency fund, patapos na sa June according to my computation. Tapos I already started purchasing my long-term healthcare. So, yun I decided it's time for me to start saving for my retirement. Para early retirement pa.

I've documented the steps on how I managed to arrive at ALFM's PSIF. I have been reading for months na din before I decided where to put my retirement money. Thought I'd share it with you here:

I read your post(You should fix your code btw. It hijacks the browser with your
ads, I had to stop the page prematurely just so I can read your post) and the
confusion about UITF tax just refuses to die.

I have both UITF and MF, had redeemed and invested on both and NAV is
really net of taxes and fees for both UITF and MF, there is no extra tax
when redeeming from UITFs.

Not only do UITFs have lower fees in general, they have zero sales loads
and shorter holding periods compared to Mutual Fund.

Also, you need to look at the fact sheet for PSIF again, BPI's mutual funds
do not have sales loads. Your 1.5% load should say 0%

it would depend on your risk personality.

If you're conservative, go for bond funds. Moderately aggressive, balanced funds. And if you are willing to take the risk for the sake of higher returns, go for equity funds.

Pero instead of MFs, mag VUL ka na lang for added life insurance protection.

By the way, generally, ALFM funds are doing OK.   :hihi:

yup Bryann i already have VUL thru Pru Life UK just recently nga lang.  Aside from that kasi nagbabalak p din me kmuha ng another nvestment in the form of MF to diversify.  Along d way, nagreresearch muna ako as long as d pa ko tapos sa mga payables ko.  sabi kasi dapat stable muna ang finances and as much as possible may savings at walang utang   :D  Thanks so much guys and gals sa mga advice super helpful sila. keep posting!  hehe

Interested ako sa PSIF ng ALFM. I asked them about sa fees nila, pero ang sinabi lang sa akin sa email ay "early redemption fee of 1% if redeem within the holding period of 180 days."

I have ALFM Peso Bond Fund. It's a mutual fund.

It's not losing money. Haha. Ewan ko ba, when I approached yung teller, I specifically told her na gusto is UITF or Mutual Fund na Medium or High-risk. Low-risk binigay. I'm going to move it the minute na magmature yung pera. Haha
