http://profit.ndtv.com/news/industries/article-india-losing-70-voice-and-call-centre-business-to-philippines-report-384804

I just want to give my opinions on this. On one hand, this will help sustain our growth as a country. If more companies choose to outsource their call centers here in the Philippines, it will generate more jobs and in turn, more people will be well-off. On the other hand, this may hinder the development of our workforce. People who are working in a BPO environment does not fully utilize their skills (most of them are college graduates). It's true that it's not the workforce fault that they do not have a place to practice what they have learned. I just hope that more "quality" work will be available for our countrymen.

That is a very limited view. You have to widen your perspective.

This is not about India vs Philippines ONLY. There are a lot of competitors when it comes to this industry.

You forgot mayroon ding non-voice jobs wherein India and other countries excel at. Hindi lang naman Pilipino ang magaling :D

Isa pa, contrary to your belief, it does not hinder our workforce and it is not true that "people who are working in a BPO environment does not fully utilize their skills". Not all call center agents are into sales or customer service. Mayroon ding technical support personnels. Marami pang ibang fields (non-voice) gaya ng healthcare, animation, legal/medical transcription, programming, at marami pang iba. All these involve high-level skills.

Hindi lang BPO. KPO.

As long as nagkukuripot at nagtitipid at naghihirap ang Western nations, maraming outsourcing jobs ang pupunta sa developing nations gaya ng Pilipinas. The key is for our workforce to improve and broaden their skillsets. Noon at ngayon, more than ever, skills ang labanan.

Yung mga pagod na sa kakapila sa MRT (nakakabwisit panoorin sa TV iyan, halos weekly, grabe!) at mag 8-to-5 na trabaho who have strong sets of skills should seriously consider getting online jobs. Walang trapik, walang baha, walang boss, kikita ka pa ng above average or double/triple/quadruple (easily matching or beating OFW salaries WITHOUT leaving your family behind).

It's good sir that you brought up the topic about internet-based work. Nakapagtry na ako niyan and if I may say, mas convenient siya kaysa mahassle ka sa daily grind ng metro. Madami na akong kilalang gumagawa niyan pero mostly IT since mas madaling magproject base sa field nila. When it comes to the quality of work, what I'm referring to is underemployment kasi hindi nila na-uutilize yung skill nila. Maybe the end justify the means. :) Then again, I don't know what the future holds for this industry pero sana maging bridge to na mapakita sa mundo kung gaano kacompetent ang mga Pinoy. :)

^I think many countries already know that Filipinos are talented, OFWs here will testify to that.

I say BPO will stay for long not just because they want to but also because they need to. In US they lobby it to their congress they reasoned "If you guys want US businesses to be competitive, let us continue our BPO operation in asian countries".

Remember what Obama announced 2 or 3 years ago about jobs returning to their homeland especially BPO?

Ano trabaho mo ngayon, Sir?

1970s-80s kilala na tayo (or mas maaga pa).

Ok lang magbago or mag-iba ng line of work (example nurse na nagtrabaho as technical support) basta you have the right set of skills or passion.

Ang dapat ay dDon't be rigid, go with the flow. Never ako nag (traditional) employment. Yung example mo na nurse na nagtrabaho as technical support, hindi yan surprising kasi bawat tao maraming passions at skills outside their chosen field of study.

It's not about money, it's more about skills and passions.

I'm happy to see this kind of news. Not because some countries is losing but because of the positive effect to our country. :yoohoo:
