I have been reading about which are the best funds, like mutual funds and uitf funds of the past year 2013; and I am very curious as to how, for example the ten best funds of 2013 were chosen and by what people or what institutional selection bodies.

Did these people or institutions follow a truly rational system in choosing the best ten funds of 2013?

The way I see it, it appears -- and correct me if I am totally mistaken -- that the criterion is the one year performance of every fund being considered for inclusion among the top ten best funds of the year 2013.

Take for example the period performance of AB Capital Equity Fund UITF* for one year is
    1-Year:    +0.94%

It so happens that in one survey Capital Equity Fund UITF has been chosen as the #1 best uitf fund of 2013 among however not ten but five top uitf performers.

I presume that the performance data of Ab Capital was supplied by Ab Capital, but how reliable are these supplied data?

Please correct me if I am totally mistaken with my observation and thinking, up to this point of the post.

Now, also tell me if I am being too simplistic or absolutely again mistaken with what I am going to say next.

Suppose there are researchers who approach the investors of funds, and ask them how happy were they when they redeemed their funds in the year 2013?

And also inquire from them why.

From their responses we can draw conclusions on what funds from what operators performed best in 2013, on the basis of satisfaction from investors who during the year 2013 redeemed their money.

Wanted: dear readers, your reactions and also of course your contributions on how to choose the best funds and their operators to put our money into.

I am also looking for studies from local funds experts on who are the happy i.e. satisfied investors in funds and why, principally on their experience as they redeemed their money.

If only we can get to know how many investors have put how much of their money into what funds with what fund operators, then we can at least guide ourselves, namely, to put our money where a lot of folks like ourselves do, that is the idea of safety in number -- of course it does not always work out to be safe, because humans are most likable to follow the herd blindly.

So, follow the number but don't act without critical intelligence.

Both uitf.com.ph and pifa.com.ph do keep records that you are looking
for but it seems that more UITFs are reporting their numbers to uitf.com.ph
compared to pifa.com.ph

It looks like only Sunlife and ATR report their numbers.

Aside from the # of account each fund has, each site also keeps
records of how much was sold/redeemed.

I beg to differ about using this data to follow the herd as
a good action plan though.

Dear Mxherr5, I am so glad to read your post, it is really rare to come across someone here with useful information, rather than with a lot of opinions.

I will look up the two websites, and see what fund operators have the most number of investors with the most money and in what among the funds these investors put their money.

What do you say, can you tell me if at all you don't put your money in a fund that is reported to be the most productive at the shortest time?

I have the impression that Union Big Cap is a very productive and quick achieving operation, but I am reluctant to take the trouble to transfer my money there -- owing to my indolence I guess more than any other considerations.

I put my money in only three bank operators which just happen to have branches within 10 minutes walk from my home, and besides these are big commercial universal banks with solid history of being tough in lasting duration and being also most fruitful in annual profit.

What about you, do you think seriously to at least one day put in the time and trouble to transfer your money to Union Big Cap?

Here's a link to the UITF data as of Dec 2013.

http://www.uitf.com.ph/report_aum.php?fmonth=12&fyear=2013#gsc.tab=0

The data doesn't surprise me.
BDO and BPI have the most # of account probably because they're everywhere
and people know about them.

Your Unionbank is way behind.
Both BDO and BPI have 5 digit figures when it comes to # of accounts.

I would actually invest in Unionbank if they had a lower investment requirement
and no spread.
I invest with UCPB Equity as an alternative. Its returns are somethings
as big as Unionbank.

Ako I have both uitf and mutual funds. The reason why is because I plan to compare them with each other either at the end of the year or in the 3yr,5yr and 10yr type of comparison. Of course I compare equity MF to equity uitf, and bond mf to bond utif.

Pero lately mas maganda returns ng MF ko  :watchuthink:

Good point in getting at least 2 kinds of related investment products#says the woman who dislikes UITF bec. of spaced-out-like bank employees.
YTD of sunlife equity vs. balanced funds. 10% plus on balanced, a little over 1% on equity.#mxherr5 for member of the month too
