Ano po ang difference ng Technical Guide sa Investment Guide? By looking at it, and considering I'm doing long-term investment my guide should be the "Investment Guide"? If yes then when can I use the Technical Guide?

I just found this: http://www.pinoymoneytalk.com/forum/index.php?topic=6758.0 I yan po ba ang sagot sa tanong ko? If yes, bakit kaya dun sa website ng colfinancial ay magkaiba ang suggestion - opposites. For example, sa Fundamental BDO has a BUY rating, dun naman sa Technical BDO has a SELL recommendation. Pwede po pa explain? Thanks in advance.

These terms refer to two different stock-picking methodologies used for researching and forecasting the future growth trends of stocks. Like any investment strategy or philosophy, both have their advocates and adversaries. Here are the defining principles of each of these methods of stock analysis:

•Fundamental analysis is a method of evaluating securities by attempting to measure the intrinsic value of a stock. Fundamental analysts study everything from the overall economy and industry conditions to the financial condition and management of companies.

•Technical analysis is the evaluation of securities by means of studying statistics generated by market activity, such as past prices and volume. Technical analysts do not attempt to measure a security's intrinsic value but instead use stock charts to identify patterns and trends that may suggest what a stock will do in the future.

kasi po fundamentals analysis is based on companies performance, earnings, etc..
while Technical analysis, is based on graphs, price actions, etc...

In addition to singkit's post, Long term (years) yung sa fundamentals guide, while short term (days or weeks basis) yung technical guide. So for BDO, COL has a good long term outlook that's why they gave it a BUY rating. However since price fluctuates over time, technical analysis/indicators may give a SELL signal in the short term. To be more safe, you might want both fundamentals and technicals to give a Buy signal before going long/buying BDO. That is if you can wait.

Thank you po sa pag-reply singkit and bajoyjoy. To sir bajoyjoy when you said "you might want both fundamentals and technicals to give a Buy signal before going long/buying", so in your opinion dapat mag hold lang ako (I should not buy) until both indicates for me to buy? Same principle (or opinion) den ba yan for selling?

fundamentals is long term, technical is for short term. to make the most out of your money every month for cost averaging, check mo din technical guide to see when is the best time to buy. sell signal sa technical guide is actually good because it means the price is dropping. anyway waiting for it to have a buy signal is good as well but you wont know when and is called timing the market dapat you shouldn't be too concerned about it if you are long term investor. This price fluctuation shouldnt matter when the price hits the FV.

Thanks singkit, I'll try your suggestion, actually I was planning to attend those but salamat pa ren ;)

I'l definitely share if something worked for me. I'll also still share if nothing worked for me para alam den ng iba ang (magiging) bad experience ko.

@goldberg, thanks! Okay noted on not being "too concerned".

Naisip ko lang, bakit "monthly" and period ng investing for cost averaging? Is it because it's too costly to do a "every other week"? May nakapag compute na ba nyan dito ng cost to invest twice a month? Just wondering and asking too :)

well the way i see it is personally kasi i earn money monthly so ayun yung nasabi ko. so ang cost  averaging ko is monthly.
if you are earning weekly or twice a month ok lang din buy ka ng buy weekly or twice monthly. limited din naman ang investment monthly, lets say i invest 5k, i can invest 5K monthly, or 2.5K twice a month or 1.25K every monday. hindi naman unlimited pera natin di ba?

i think ok lang kahit ano depende yan sayo, the frequent time you spend sa stocks market, the more time it takes on your actual life. :)

meron kasing iba kagaya ko na i dont need to spend too much time sa stock market because i have a busy daily job. meron din namang ibang madaming free time at madalas sa stock market.

i think whatever fits you is ok as long as you do it constantly and regularly dahil the price flactuates daily, in the end you do it do regularly, you get the average price and when it hits FV. boom! $$$$$

That's a very helpful comment goldberg. I was also just thinking about all the costs included in a trade. I guess that's very minimal in the long run kahit mag twice a month ako.

When you said "when it hits FV. boom! $$$$$" does the FV means it's the target price as suggested in COL's guide or it depends on me what price I will set it to (what price I want to sell)?

yes the FV is the Fair Value of the company, based on the fundamentals of the company eto yung expected price ng isang stock ng company. I use to call it Forecasted Value by our analyst, so one way or another, through ups and downs, thick and thin, ma re-reached yang target price na iyan. basta you constantly monitor the performance of the company. If the company is consistently performing based on target, ma re-reached yan target price na yan.

Huwaw! Ayus pala ang mga pinaglagyan ko dahil ang tataas ng FV. Question is, as newbie as I am, it seems impossible to reach that. Or at least impossible to me means "not in the near future". And the question is what's the "near future" or what date would that be. Based on what I've read here, I guess no one can answer really.

Well thank you again goldberg, you've been a great help providing me inputs. Thank you!

You mean meron ka ng BDO sa ngayon? I always go back to the reasons for buying a stock in the first place. If those reasons/basis have changed, then no more reason to hold or to buy more.

Some “simple rules” I have learned over the past year..

If fundamentally good and technically good, BUY and HOLD.

If fundamentally good and technically bad, either HOLD until I find another stock to switch to, or BUY more (average down) when technicals are good again.

If fundamentally bad and technically good (opportunity for a short term play) BUY and SELL as soon as I’ve gain some profits.

If fundamentally bad and technically bad, AVOID or SELL (if I have).

Naisip ko lang, bakit "monthly" and period ng investing for cost averaging? Is it because it's too costly to do a "every other week"? May nakapag compute na ba nyan dito ng cost to invest twice a month? Just wondering and asking too :)

The EIP method is voluntary and doing it monthly is just a suggestion, not a strict rule to follow. It is a monthly thing to make it a regular routine for the investors, like paying your monthly bills so that you will develop your investing habit.. but it still depends on your CAPACITY TO SAVE, if you are able to save WEEKLY and have nothing else to spend your money on, then no one should stop you to do EIP weekly.

It’s been discussed in some of the threads here that to maximize the costs and broker fees, you should buy at least P8000 worth of stocks in every transaction. If you buy lower than P8000, you didn't maximize your money and your broker gets the better end of the deal.

Yes meron na po. I like your style or technique, I'll think and learn about it more and then I'll try and implement it. Salamat ng marami sa tip!

Ouch! So I got one strike! I should have spent all my money into buying stocks of one company. Then on my next trade bought another company. Sayang ang mga unnecessary commissions.

I just read their FAQ again and I missed that "asterisk" explaining the min. commission is 20 if the 0.25% is lower, tst tsk. Bakit kaya sa EIP ang suggestion ay 5K lang per month tapos spread pa dapat? I don't want to think it's intentional by COL para mataas ang sales nila. If not, dapat ang suggestion nila is: use your 5K for one company only in a month, then on the following month (or week or whatever) buy another company of the same amount. Or simply, dapat 5K in one transaction para less commission. Tsk tsk ulit. Unless of course that 20 pesos can be gained back in the long run sa dami ng klaseng stock ang binili every trade (every month). Possible nga kaya na mabawi, has someone already computed for it? Hmm...
