Free Traffic, or Paid Traffic?

There are certainly many ways to get traffic to your website...

But the two main ways fall on two categories: Free traffic or paid traffic.

Free traffic comes from SEO, social media, blogging, Youtube, article marketing and more.. (More on this later).
This free traffic builds your list very slowly but its free and that's the good part of it.

Paid traffic comes from buying advertisements from ad networks or simply by your paying advertising
space to website owners. There are so many ways to get paid traffic (more on this post later).

Paid traffic builds your list a lot faster, more measurable in the sense that you can track everything.

Now you choose how you market, free traffic, or paid traffic?

I suggest you do both... :D

Use Paid traffic for case study and A/B testing of your web pages. Plan to fail fast so you could alter needed in the right approach and directions.

Paid traffic is much more targeted and the results are much more impressive. So I vote for paid traffic. But I use free traffic too, if it does not take a lot of efforts to get.

haven't tried paid traffic. so my vote goes to free traffic.

so far, promising results naman if you're using the correct keywords and ayos ang spot ng ads mo. :D

Paid traffic can be very profitable. Depends on which one you use. In my opinion solo ads it still the best as long as the seller is a reputable one. Dont buy cheap traffic because its all dirt!

It depends from the source. Quality freelancing websites like SEOClerks have very good sellers that are offering paid traffic services. I suggest you check them out.

Paid Traffic definitely will come fast. But cannot ignore Free Traffic. You need to do both in order to maximize your traffic source.

I agree get both free and paid traffic. It is possible in my experience to grow a business faster with paid traffic. It is possible to leverage paid traffic.

My vote goes to free traffic source means Search Engine Optimization through which you can get maximum targeted traffic but it takes time and hardworking required but in the other hand for paid traffic you just have to pay for traffic which is the quick source to generate revenue. So, its totally depends on you....

agree taht we need to do both.

what i do is fre traffic first, if i earn then i use that funds to buy traffic like adwors, adswap etc.

I would go for both.

Pero if need mo talaga maoptimize yung number visits sa site mo faster, go for paid traffic. May mga websites naman na naghohost ng paid to click. ^_^ forgot yung site na pinupuntahan ko. hahaha

Paid traffic is ok for fast result, you just have to set a budget and always consider ROI. Dapat mamonitor din kung anong traffic source ang nagdedeliver ng most # of visitors, set a small budget first then scale big sa traffic source na mataas conversion rate. Paid traffic should be fast, scalable and consistent. Free traffic is ok but you have to be patient but the results are rewarding once you dominate this type of traffic specially if you rank high sa search engines.

Free traffic is the best. Because, every penny spent on paid traffic, adds up to your business expenses. The higher expenses your business have, the lower the profitability.

We need to do both. The advantage of paid traffic is it reached many highly targeted prospect fast. While the free traffic, needs more time, effort and skill to make people/prospect see your ads. However before you go to paid traffic, try free traffic first, dahil para ma-test mo rin if effective ba ang traffic strategy mo and pag-ok ang free traffic, you can maximize the use of paid traffic.

I agree. Free traffic, although it will cost you nothing in terms of money, it will cost you a lot of time. And as we know it, time is gold. Sometimes, it's a "poor man's strategy".  I remember the quote, "The problem with being poor is that it eats you a lot of time."

But, don't misunderstood SEO. It's a free strategy that even the rich people are obsessed with. If you have a web site and you do SEO, your big advantage over those using paid traffic like PPC (Google or Facebook), is that you are in for a long haul. In paid traffic, once you stop paying or spending money, the traffic will come to halt. But with SEO, which is a free traffic strategy, once you have done your work properly, it will serve you for a very long time.

I also say we need both:

Paid - fast and targeted traffic

Organic - takes time but good for long term.

So I recommend using both...

Free traffic ako mostly, so that's SEO and Keyword research, sometimes forums and blog commenting. Still, nag-eexperiment ako sa paid traffic occasionally, like Stumbleupon ads (so far, no success sa paid ads, pero yung isang post ko nagviral in 2 days). IMAutomator din para link building.

Since blog naman yung akin at hindi business na nagbebenta ng products, free traffic ang main method ko (supplemented by some paid traffic methods). Kung nagbebenta ka ng products, I think kailangan paid, tapos may blog din dapat yung business para may free din na makuha.

Free traffic or SEO for views and impressions on my blog.

I use paid traffic to get sales. Malaking tulong sya sa business. Let's say you have a business and selling a product worth $25 or 1,200+ pesos. Kung meron kang traffic na 100,000 and 0.5% ang conversion rate. Meron kang 500x1,200 meron kang 600k profit. Depende yan kung anong kailangan mo and depende yan targeted audience mo. And may mga tricks din sa paid traffic. Hindi lang basta ilalagay mo ang site or product mo and waiting for a sale/impressions. Kelangan alam mo ang market, competition and proper keywords for your business.

Free traffic is the best if you know what are you doing. You have to work hard for it. Paid traffic for instant and fast results.

For me, I will start on paid traffic. Let's say I will invest 500 pesos for ads, I will make my headline and content more catchy and tell people to share my advertisement. Just give them a freebie para i-share nila ang advertisement mo. And makakakuha ka na ng organic traffic using your paid traffic.

Paid traffic on Facebook is good if your audience is on Facebook. But free organic traffic from search engine works on the long run. Write a well-researched, -optimized quality content and part of the traffic dilemma is solved.

Website traffic should get organically from the search engines.

From long term and good ranking of your website good seo practices should be followed such as on page seo and off page seo.

With paid traffic from legitimate sources such as google adwords, facebook adverts etc will help your to get fast traffic in case of a new website.

I prefer free, organic traffic. The reason is, you really have to be careful with paid traffic as sometimes the value you can get isn't worth the money you're spending. I have heard a lot of stories of people spending money on ads but can't show good results doing it.

Don't forget to add the ad expenses when you file for the tax to get a credit. I don't know how it works in the Philippines maybe others can share their experience/tax tips.

It depends on purposes and an economical branch. For some companies better PPC and for others  organic traffic. For first analysis and then choose.

If you need high traffic immediately, go for paid traffic. But if you are after ROI and sustainability, go for free traffic.

@Gomermagtibay mentioned something about stories of those who choose paid traffic but were not able to acquire good results. People nowadays are becoming wiser and savvier. I remember when I was working at Onehalf Staffing Solutions. One of my colleagues has knowledge about SEO and we got a chance to talk about this since I also find the traffic interesting.

When something is paid, you will usually see an "ad" word beside it. People know it is ad so unless it is really interesting, chances are they will never click it. Or they may indeed click it but if the content is not valuable, they will not stay on the site or return. So there may be a lot of traffic but the conversion or return of investment will not be that high.

But if you focus on free traffic and really worked to make something valuable, chances are there will be higher conversion. The only downfall is that you need time and patience.
