I'm a freelance web developer with 2 kids. I work mostly at home sa laptop ko. By next month I will get paid a little over 50thousand pesos sa ginagawa kong project.

Pareho kaming walang day job.. hawak namin ang oras namin. LOL!

Alam ko mas marami po kayong experience so please guide us. Thanks!

IMO, dapat dun kayo sa negosyo or industry na "maalam" kayo, or may background kayo, or yung handa kayong pag-aralan. mabilis lang maubos ang 50k kung trial and error ang gagawin nyo, kaya mas mainam kung magsimula kayo sa isang negosyo na comfortable or familiar na kayo. kung walang ganun, magresearch muna kayo or kumuha ng short course/seminar sa pagbibisnes para maging malinaw at handa kayo sa mga logistics, suppliers or capital/resource requirements ng negosyong gusto nyo, pati an rin ang kaakibat na responsibilidad, sakripisyo at marami pang challenges na kakaharapin nyo. kung ayaw nyong pagdaanan mga ganyan, might as well start with the walang-kamatayang, sari-sari store. :D

Since you are online na, I suggest that you do online businesses. Online stores siguro?

It may work without you needing to hire people na rin.

Tama ang sinabi ni @vicces, you need knowledge in running a business. Take stock of what you have now. Big advantage na ang kaalaman mo na sa web development, kaya you will just need to learn other aspect of the business na lang.

Maybe you could learn that lesson from your clients - siguro hinahire ka nila to do their sites because it's either they do not have the skills or they have the knowledge but they just do not have time to setup one.

However, don't let that quest of knowledge hinder you from starting a business. Baka naman maubos ang oras ninyo kaka-research. Learn when to stop learning and make that initial move.

^ agree, agree.. online stores would be perfect since web developer ka... to get your feet wet, magbenta ka sa ebay, sulit, etc... tignan mo ung gadget store na kimstore(dot)multiply(dot)com, ang layo na ng narating!

actually may online store na ang misis ko.. she's selling lots of products mostly sa facebook. We haven't tried other media yet like multiply/ebay/sulit. Kapag friends or kakilala, utang pa. Pahirapan din sa araw ng bayad. Kaya as much as possible ayaw ko na yung idea na pautang, kasi hindi kami magaling mangolekta.

Anyway sa facebook business naman namin, we don't have the actual items on hand, per order basis lang. We ship thru JRS or LBC. And we've been doing this business for like 2 years now. Problem is, it doesn't look promising. And binibenta pala namin dun, mga hellokitty items, some dresses, sandals, and other stuff mostly pambabae. Misis ko kasi talaga nagha-handle nun. I never put so much time on it.

I guess the business we're wishing to have is something that isn't virtual anymore. Pero kung online man, okay lang. Forte ko yun. But I think what we'd like to try now is something physical. Salamat po sa inyong mga ideas. I just need more answers. Salamat talaga ^_^

Maybe the other media would work. Hindi mo pa naman nasubukan. Or better yet establish your own online website - you have the skills. Just do SEO and SEM on to promote your site.

You might also be targeting the wrong market, or just do not have enough market to go by.

Maybe a facebook page would be better. Na try nyo ito? It's easier to promote pages with just "likes" at hindi na kailangan ng friend requests. I see more people selling stuff through their profile rather than using facebook pages to promote their wares. This is even discouraged by Facebook because they are expecting businesses to use Facebook pages. Some FB users would readily unfriend old friends who have too much advertising sa profile nila, because they didn't choose to see ads.

Yung multiply, ebay, sulit and facebook pages - you get visitors even if they are not your friend in facebook. Mga visitors galing sa search engines like google, yahoo, and msn if you do some SEO and SEM efforts. (There, I gave you my tip).

I was thinking kasi na bawasan ang time mo with an existing knowledge than to learn an entirely new business from scratch. Yung 50k would just be enough for a very small offline business, baka nga pang sari-sari store lang. 50k still goes a longer way with online businesses.

You are learning how to run an online business already without you realizing it. Even if you decide to back out on this you can still run into similar marketing problems sa bagong offline business - hindi kumita eh, maghahanap ka na ng ibang ventures. Because you haven't learned and figured out how to find the market on your online business.

Or go with what others have suggested here - stock trading. Again, knowledge is needed.

I think it’s the products you are selling that should be abandoned, not the online store/selling itself, kasi sobrang laki ng natitipid ng online store, walang overhead, internet lang at kuryente… dapat marketable and in-demand yung products nyo, yung mga hello kitty stuff, im not sure, nagkalat na kasi mga yan kahit sa bangketa meron (the fake ugly knock-offs from china). Imagine kung may makikita kang supplier ng kopi luwak or civet/alamid coffee sa pilipinas, which can be sold at $1,000 per kilo and foreigners do not mind if shipping would cost another $100… makabenta ka lang ng 1-2 sa isang buwan, di na masama.

Among other things, kailangan ng physical presence, physical exertion, lahat ng physical hehe…

Merong businesscoach dito sa pmt na nagbibigay ata ng seminars (for a fee) about the different kinds of small businesses na pwede mong pasukin, but I don’t think 50k will be sufficient for these kinds of “real businesses”. Pwesto pa lang magkano na, mga business permits atbp pang pagkakagastusan… by the time you get to that part na bibili ka na ng supply/stocks ng products na ibebenta mo, ubos na yung 50k mo.. :hihi: kaya nga kung pagbebenta ang tema ng negosyong gusto mo, online store is the cheapest way to go, at least until steady na kita nyo at nakaipon na para makakuha ng actual at physical na pwesto.

I think yung pagiging Web Developer mo sir ay magagamit mo na build a business on your own lalo na related sa IT... pwedeng ikaw ang mag silbing project leader then hanap ka na lang ng tutulong sayo at pasahurin sila ng sapat..

I'm sure maraming nag hahanap diyan ng sideline na kita online lalo na sa IT industry.

You can also set up a tutorial class on the technology you use as a Web Developer..

yung 50k mo sir.. kung wala ka pang naisip na pag gamitan pwede mong i Time Deposit sa mga bangko na maasahan..

Alam nyo, because of the few who suggested that I stick with the online business, parang I wanna give it one more try. This time, ako ang magiging driver. I will use my background in online marketing, alam ko rin ang takbo ng eBay.

But I'd like to focus maybe sa Multiply and Facebook. Yes, you're right that pages are better than an account. Maybe hindi ko lang talaga natutuunan ng pansin, and looking at how my wife is doing with her online facebook store, medyo hindi inspiring. Kaya siguro hindi ako nagaganahan.

Tama rin pala na "depende sa product". I'll really put that in mind this time. I think my 50k will go a long way if I focus on building my online store and think as if this is the last thing i've got.

I can also put up an online store, but i think i'm going to need products that you can't easily find in the malls or something na wala masyado sa palengke. I would assume that people will better off buy these things sa tindahan kesa sa internet.

All i need is skills, and the desire to do it.

YOu will succeed.

I personally would like to see, touch, hold, test & check out an item I'm buying before giving up my money. Kulang rin masyado ang public amenities like parks, public sports venues & near by outdoor activities Kaya the masses are flocking to the malls & the tiangges.

If gusto mo kumita ng Malaki through online selling. You need orders by the volume & offer products that caters to the masses give them an option for pick-up for products they wanted to buy. Products talaga importante.

Physical biz without overhead try lending. If done right it will improve your liquidity & eventually you can offer it online or online pawnshop like something I saw at sulit. Since you have a background to market it online, I think making it available online will be easier for you.

Sino pwedeng pautangin? Peeps without creditcards. Check out the money lending thread to learn more. I've personally started with 50k around 4 years ago.

It's a no brainer informal biz. Just learn who to lend money to.

thats where i do not agree. initially, i think he should go for the internet-savvy people as his target market, not the masa (coz these are the people who likes to see, hold, and himas-himas, and internet-phobic-- is that even a word? :D ) .. mga taong bumibili na talaga online, and big ticket items pa (like gadgets, high end clothes/perfumes/watches/bags etc). just make sure you have a "return policy" to assuage hesitations. reputation is key here.
