Hi fellow PMT'ers this is my first thread and my goal is to set a discussion about Financial Literacy with regards to a good educating group or institution.

Recently I attended a free seminar about money management from WFMA (World Financial Marketing Alliance). It was all good but as I learned further you will need to register as their member for about 4k php then you will be able to attend an unlimited number of trainings and seminars. ang problema meron pala silang product din na mutual funds/ insurance plan. so basically ang learning ay product specific and will only touch a random and to my opinion a few topics about investment, mutual funds and stocks.

I went online to search for more institutions that provide Financial Literacy. I have found Bo Sanchez, and IMG-wealthy academy. So far, *** pa akong feed backs sa matututunan ko dito.. What we need are Basics for Building a Strong Financial Foundation.

Can you guys help me out, baka may ma suggest pa kayo na mas maganda.. A comprehensive review about stocks, mutual funds, investment, real state, bonds, notes and even precious metal trading sana ang gusto ko matutunan.

hello!
i think all of those u've mentioned have 'inherent motives', for better or worse.

it's quite difficult to find a comprehensive review/info of those all in 1 place.
having said that, u will find relevant info here in PMT.
it aint comprehensive if u ask me, but at least this forum gets your feet wet. u just need to browse around.

Good luck!

From my limited experience...most of those organizations who set this type of financial literacy have their own agenda. Some are obvious..some are implied.

I guess the most un biased information which ona can get will be through the internet or books. Forums are also a good source..however...most of the time..it is not structured...incomplete..and unverified.

The underlying motive is really unappetizing, the cost doesn't matter as long as what we can learn is substantial, basic and applicable.

herein lies the spice of the learning journey..

when starting out, u dont know which is which. almost always, u only learn to determine the wheat from the chaff once u are experienced. :D
in a way, this is part of the cost of learning

very true, I like what I am getting here and I am learning a lot. But still we are at the mercy of good citizens who provide their insights. what it needs is structure.

Try National Bookstore, Power Books, Fully Booked. They have lots of teachers.

Read a book about your specific purpose that you want to accomplish. Apply the formula for attaining your goal. If you succeed, good. If not, try again. Look for another formula, then act once more until you succeed.

Sir Ferrari,
I guess what he means eh, mag self educate thru books. As I see things kasi experience is the best, but when you are inexperienced ask some one who knows better. thank you po sa lahat ng replies nyo, hopefully we can find a credible institution that can at least educate us with most of these topics.

Basics ng investment.. more about real estate trading, mutual funds and stocks. un tipong a complete Idiots guide to investment. you see these things were not taught in school eh, usually profession ang turo sa schools, how to work for money, not how to make money work for you.

You can check the professional schools of Ateneo and DLSU. Maybe they offer post-graduate courses in finance and investments.

If you're just looking for the basics of different investment vehicles, the cheapest way is to buy a lot of books. Basics lang naman kamo. There's a lot of that available. Sure they all have a bias. Who cares as long as you meet your objective!

You can try Wikipedia. They don't have a bias but they're also pretty much useless for someone wanting to learn investing.

Complete Idiots Guide To Investment? That's too broad a topic IMHO.

yan lang ba?
u dont need a financial educator.
search ka lang sa internet. or bili books, if u prefer.
if u want in-depth topics, u have to dig deeper sa internet.. or get subject-specific books.
gone are the days when u have to spend a lot to learn. ngayon, pag marami kang time (or kahit konti lang), internet ang library mo. make good use of it. it's FREE.

mas level na ang playing field ngayon kumpara dati nung wala pang internet.

btw, hindi yan tinuro sa skwelahan kasi 'they' want most of us to become & stay employed for most of our lives. f*ck them, kaya nga nagmatigas ako e, i've never been employed. kailangan talaga maghanap ng paraan mga empleyado to quit the race race ASAP. go into business.

fE, ang challenge lang ng newbie in the beginning lalo na from free resources in the internet is separating the chaff from the wheat (just copying the phrase you used earlier.:))

Personally, I wouldn't mind paying for good information. There's a lot of good paid resources naman. It shortens the learning process. Remember, time is also money!
