Tipping Practices: When to Tip and How much

Ano ang tipping practices ninyo? How much is appropriate?

Or do you not tip at all?

Parang nagiging part na ang tipping nowadays.

Do you tip on the following? and how much?
- waiters on restaurants
- parlors (haircut, rebond jobs, manicure, pedicure, footspa, etc)
- spas (facials, waxing, massages, etc)
- taxi drivers, tricycle drivers
- car wash
- gasoline boy/girl who does tire air checks, clean windshield
- fastfood delivery, gasul delivery
- parking lot boys/guards who help you back out a car
- baggage helpers from the supermarket
- car mechanic

Ano pa ang ibang instances where you tip?

all of the above (except yung baggage helper)

also sa office messenger/janitor, pag may pinakisuyo na personal errands..

ano ba ung baggage helper, yung mismong bagger kasi ang nasa isip ko... di ako nagtitip, kasi di ko alam na tinitip-an pala sila? :hihi:

magkano? keep the change minsan, or pag parking na libre mga 20-30, kung may bayad yung parking 5 na pinakamataas... food delivery 20 pag mabilis, pag naunahan sila ng gutom ko, 10 below.. sa resto, pag walang service charge 20 up, pag merong SC, yung barya lang ang maiiwan :hihi: pag napakabagal mag-serve, WALA. Merong isang waitress sa shakey's na madalas kong kainan, sobrang maasikaso, magalang... knowing that the tips usually go to a general fund na pinaghahatian nilang lahat, binulungan ko bago ako umalis, sabi ko yung P50 nasa ilalim ng plate, sayo lang yun ha..

sa masahe or gupit 50. dun sa paborito kong masahista, 200 max (kasi magpapasko).

Merong isang waitress sa shakey's na madalas kong kainan, sobrang maasikaso, magalang... knowing that the tips usually go to a general fund na pinaghahatian nilang lahat, binulungan ko bago ako umalis, sabi ko yung P50 nasa ilalim ng plate, sayo lang yun ha..

sa restaurant usually sukli nalang iniiwan ko..sa taxi ganun din kung may bryang sukli,keep the change nalang..pero pag bagong dating sa bakasyon,unang taxi kong masasakyan from airport to pasay, inaabutan ko ng 500 at di ko na tinatanong magkano ba dapat kong bayaran...bagong dating pa kasi  :hihi: :hihi:

sa gupit naman,kapag maganda gupit inaabutan ko din yung barbero pero kapag pangit,namumura ko siya sa loob loob ko  :hihi: :hihi: :hihi:

@ sir miko, baka naman minsan lagpas 500 pa  ung dpat bayaran mo, pero 500 lang binibigay mo tapos di mo na tinatanong kung magkano,haha

I only tip when they let me use their bathroom especially for take out orders. coins only.

Me, too!!! Pag ako pinangunahan, I take out my coin purse para malapit sa metro ang ibibigay ko. Meron namang mga driver na tutulungan ka pa sa pagbaba ng mga groceries, 20 for the effort. The baggers kasi would sometimes bring you sa pila ng taxi and would help load your stuff, kaya may tip. Robinson's no longer allow this practice. Nakatingin ang mga sec. guards.

Sa mga establishments na may service charge, yung mga barya na lang. People who deliver stuff regularly would have their Christmas envelope. For others, it would go from 10-20%. Pag may may european kaming mga guests, naghahanda na ako ng iiwan sa mga resto. kasi coins lang talaga ang iiwan nila. It's not their pratice.

@freelancer_babe, kaw ano sagot mo? its not really mandatory or faux pas,  customary lang sa akin as incentive to those who get out of their way to do their job well and go the extra mile minsan.

                  ako din eh,pag inunahan ako ng driver, bente lang bigay ko. :afro:,kapal nya ,edi kapalan ko rin mukha ko.

here are my tipping practices (kayo na bahala humusga kung kuripot ba o tama lang. on second thought, please don't judge me pala hehehe.)

- 100 for hair stylist, 20 for the assistant who washed my hair
- 50 for mani/pedi
- 10% sa resto if walang service charge, pero i usually don't exceed 100
- 100-200 for spa/massage
- 10-100 for taxi (depende sa layo). pag hiniritan muna ng dagdag, sara kagad pinto, para ng ibang taxi. (OT: may isang taxi driver SOBRANG kapal. pinara ko, huminto, sinabi ko kung san ako, sabi nya sakin "anlayo naman. yung isang yun saan daw?" sabay turo dun sa di ko kilalang pumapara din. iniwan ko talaga siya na nakabukas pinto)
- 10-20 for water delivery (kakahiya kase usually isang container lang tapos nasa 27F ako ng condo nun)
- 20-50 for food delivery

ayun lang mga naiisip ko ngayon. i'm a believer in tipping, some people do it to encourage good service by giving an incentive (though ayoko rin ng ganitong mindset kase one must be proud and do good in any work regardless). ang sakin lang eh you should give back if you're lucky enough to be on that side of the transaction. life will continue to give you back so much more in return.
