Hello. My mother's old Metro Pacific Investments Corp. stock certificates have resurfaced after she forgot about them in the early 1990s. I have only started reading and learning about how stocks work very recently and I was wondering if I could get some advice from experienced traders. Do the certificates still hold value and can we still claim the dividends from the past years? Do we need to take it to the same broker from our last transaction?

^If TS has the stock certificate, I believe it's better to check with the stock transfer agent of that particular stock.

Would you mind saying how much it was bought for per share originally so the ahhh..pogi-geeks in this forum will go crazy and start throwing in figures. For the learning experience, of course  :D

I'm with nightwatch. Call your stockboker ( he will gladly assist you for the commission if you are selling), the Investor Relation Officer of MPI, or the listed transfer agent. I'm betting the stockbroker will be the most helpful.

Did you receive dividend checks that are now stale( since you have stock certificates)?

My mother's memory is no longer how it used to be. She handed the stock certificate to me and it came with a note stating that the shares were withdrawn from the Abacus Securities Corporation's custody on january 27, 2004. So it wasn't during the early 90s after all. She has 28,000 shares which she said she bought for P2.00 each. Feel free to do your computing and let me know what you come up with. :) We havent received any dividend checks.

It's around Php3.40 now so your mother has around Php95k. I was kinda bummed out for you because I thought to myself, "less than 100% increase after all those years, that can't be right."

So out of curiosity, I checked the PSE for dividend history and stock splits (if any) but I found this:
Date of Incorporation: 2006-03-20

Why would the date of incorporation be later than the date the stock certificates were bought? Is it a different company?

Honestly, I don't know but if I were you, I'd be checking the certificates again and I'll be going to Abacus first thing tomorrow morning and get this thing sorted out.

Check my post above. I think the stock certificates point to another company. maybe First Pacific?

I was looking for stock splits and/or dividend history to justify the low price. I found a company incorporated in 2006.

@mfyg

assuming you've purchased those stocks certificate at 2.00 per share, are you ready to liquidate those at a loss?

it's best to contact the original brokerage whom facilitated the issuance of those certificates

You guys were right. They weren't Metro Pacific Investments Corp shares. They were actually from Metro Pacific Corporation. Thank you for pointing that out. I found information online about what happened to the company: http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=2518&dat=20061110&id=4EtaAAAAIBAJ&sjid=ESgMAAAAIBAJ&pg=3087,5176266
I think this probably sums everything up. What bad luck. tsk.

talagang ganyan sa stocks.  hindi porke 10 years, 15 or 20 eh it will turn into golden egg.  kadalasan, itlog na pula lang.

always be careful on your stock picks.  learn fundamentals and dont buy and forget. when you buy, bantayan niyo regularly.  guard your investment.
