All about Treasury Bills (T-bills)

hi guys, it me again, ocirejgm.

Well, ngayon sobrang interested talaga ako sa passive entrepreneurship, so meron ako uling tanong?

So gusto ko sanang subukan.

alam ko minimum sa t-bills is 100k at available siya at most of your suking commercial banks. Pero take note 5.7% p.a siya ah, that means per anum. Its not big compared to some rates offered by time deposits. Ung Uitf ok kaso this May ang baba.

ah ok so yung 5.7% is per annum, hinde per maturity. so kung magmamature  yung T-bill in 3 months, parang 5.7% divided by four, o 1.45 lang kada maturity. Tama ba?

If you are a businessman and you cant predict when you will need the money, stick with time deposits. place it every 30 days lang so you will know when you can withdraw your money

thanks cool for the info, akala ko kasi yung quoted na percent eh per maturity. so, maliit lang pala talaga yung kikitain ng pera ko kung ilalagay ko lang sa T-bills.

Me isa pa po akog tanung, anu ang mangyayari kapag nagmature na yung IOU mo, kaylngan mo natalagang iwithdraw, o pwede mo pang idelay yung IOU mo? Pede ba itong itrade?

Yup as cool_78 stated if you're not sure when you will be needing funds best to stick with short term bank deposits (TD or Special Savings account)

Also take note that the Tbill rates nowadays are not very enticing. In fact some banks would give higher than tbill rates for a 30day placement bu of course depending on the amount of placement.

Tbills are considered marketable securities. Yes you can trade it in the secondary market but you normally need a bank or a financial institution to do that on your behalf.  However take note that there is a chance that you would get less than what you paid for. It is always best to hold to maturity these kind of investments so that you minimize market risk.

I have some questions on treasury bills and bonds. I understand that bonds, notes and bills are tradeable depending on their market price. I also understand that their market price depends on current interest rates. My questions are:

1. How do I know what the current interest rate is? Can that be found online somewhere?
2. How do I compute for the price of the bond/note/bill based on the current interest rate?

Thanks!

there is a benchmark for t-bills/bonds in PDEX www.pdex.com.ph you can usually see it using a bloomberg system or sa businessworld newspaper the price of the bond is computed by computing the present value of all coupon payments plus the principal. i hope that helps.
