if you are the breadwinner of the family and the salary is not enough mahihirapan ka nga mag-ipon, you have to find other sources of income besides your current employment. usually necessities should constitute 50% of your income from salary pero if more than 100% ang gastos mo for necessities then you will really have trouble saving up especially you are relying with credit cards. you should live within your means not beyond (using credit card for that matter tells you you are going way overboard your budget) and if you continue that, it will be hard to cope up unless you find other sources of income (sideline business/selling) or find a better paying job. you have to be strict in setting up and allotting money to necessities like food, transportation and bills. For now you cant afford any luxury or "fun" money to minimize your spendings.

i was able to save money from an 8k minimum wage salary before then I transferred to better paying jobs in call centers, etc.... i have been so kuripot saving what i can and sacrificing my wants to pay my needs. wants and needs are different. when i was an employee, from there I was able to save money for my business ventures with partners who are expert in the field i go to, that is to minimize my capital and exposure. What i did before since I like business so much is I only go for employment to have money for my business so once I am able to save up, I go to business. It fails and then go back to employment, its just a cycle until I finally learned how to do business so I wont have to go back to employment anymore and enjoy my time more with passive income. :)

To save money is to be strict about it, only bring in your purse the amount you need for the day like transportation and food. Dont go window shopping and avoid all temptations for you to buy anything other than your necessities. Be strict with your savings. It requires a lot to have discipline and be the master of yourself.

Just dont forget to bring your atm should there be emergencies na kulangin ka talaga sa pagkain or transportation thats why what I put in my wallet is only the money I need to spend for one week. That will give me some emergency funds I need. Take it as an accomplishment if you are able to keep and be strict with your wallet. compute your expenses for food and transportation for a week and also bills to pay for the family plus food for the family and then from there, you will see how much you can save from your salary. If what you see is not enough, its about time you do some sideline or find a better paying job. Hope this helps but I never had credit cards til now to avoid temptations of going beyond your means. Supplementary card from my parents I have though heheh which I only need if i Have to book a flight with cebupacific for my leisure travels.

- @ pia, pwede po bang malaman kung gaano kahaba yung "cycle" until you finally "learned" (or should i say successful) to do business?

- agree. i've been doing it before. projected monthly expenses na naka excel sheet. dun pa lang sa pag gawa mo ng budget sa excel sheet malalaman mo na kung kasya ba o kulang. kung kulang you have to find ways para magkasya, whether cut some %age expenses inorder of priority. next thing is to plan for additional income.

next thing is to plan for additional income.

3 years ago, my cc debt is higher than 3 months of my take home pay. i am a single mom and i support a brother in college. we live from paycheck to paycheck. the realization came when my daughter have to attend school na.
i listed every spending for a month. and from there i made slow and little adjustments. i started saving 1% of my salary per month. lumipat din ako sa mas murang brand (colgate to happee, ariel to champion, joy to tisyu etc). i analyze yung maximum pay na magagawa ko sa cc ko and kung mas ok ba kung ibabalance transfer ko na lang sya. i found balance transfer will save me more kaya nagbalance transfer ako sa bpi. i became honest with my family sa situation ko. we never went sa mall ng daughter ko for almost 6 months. never bought anything new no matter how much my brain says na kailangan ko sya. i know at one point i became extremely frugal but in the end it paid off. naghanap din ako ng extra job kailangan talaga eh i have no choice by that time i gave my credit card to my mom para hindi talaga ako matempt. yung 1% saving naging 2% hangang maging 10%.. ngayon im credit free with a month and a half worth of savings.

if you are determined to be have savings magagawa mo! :D

@weemallasiatel, now that you admit you have that tendency and you know the problem now. solve the problems and start listing down your expenses daily, weekly and so you can know your monthly basic expenses including the groceries as it is a basic necessity (food). you can start from there. mahirap talaga kung wala kang gagawin to control yourself and it starts by doing this basic listing and knowing how much you spend on a monthly basis and from there you will see if kaya yan ng monthly salary mo. then if it exceeds, do some troubleshooting like see how you can get the most basic payables and then try to eliminate all the others na kaya namang mabuhay if you dont buy. after that, try to think of ways to generate more income aside from your current work. you have to take full control of your financial situation.

Budget allocation is the best!

Ganito po sa akin:

SAVINGS            30%
Mama                  26% (Since I’m still living with my mom)
Transpo               19%
Groceries             5%
Food Allowance  7%
Books                   10%
Load                     1 %
Charity                  2%

Whatever my income every month ganito ini-allocate ang pera ko. I also have a notebook to list down all my expenses every day para alam ko how much ang na-spend ko or if I still have a budget to buy something because I always have scheduled budget. So I have total control of my expenses. Tama po sila. You have to MASTER your MONEY and not let money master overyou.

Well, for me sir. Ang mapapayo ko po, just like any other ppl na nagsasave, is wag baguhin ang lifestyle.

Example,

you are earning 16k a month. You survive.

Now, you got promoted and earned 24k a month. Dinagdagan mo ang mga gastusin mo, like Pizza every saturday, gala every week ends and so on, which is mali.

Dapat kung ano ang life style mo nung 16k ang sweldo mo, dapat same lifestyle pa din nung 24k na. Imagine, another 8k added sa savings mo every month?
