If each and everyone of us will teach our families the art of budgeting and saving and how to fish...baka walang OFW na poor.
It is not how much you earn, but how much you save..
kasi nga instead of making the lives better, most Pinoys aim to increase the standard of living of their families.
The secret to amass wealth is to live beneath your means..wisdom from me.

@ indulgence;

20 years??? haba nun ah!

pero everything you said is true. still, sobrang dami pa rin sa ating mga ofw's ang hindi concerned with this issue, some undeliberately, others knew it very well but just don't care...

I thought the figures were higher.... :hihi:

Anyway, maybe including 'Financial Literacy' session sa pre-deployment requirements ng POEA might be able to help.

Or, maybe giving leaflets & handouts about 'Financial Literacy' sa airports is another option.

Mahirap talaga iyan. I guess its embedded in our genes. :D

The truth of the matter is most OFWs families use to live beyond their means. Kasi pag biglang lumaki ang income, biglang adjust agad ang expenses not knowing that there is no assurance to sustain it. In the long run, parang kabayo si OFW todo hataw para sa pamilya.

Suggest that OFW families log on PMT para matuto sila.

:thankyou:

@ ric_TNT;
I agree with you, totally, na dapat yung family dito na naiwan ng OFW ang tutukan ng govt sa financial literacy, cause they are the one spending it.
or better yet, bakit di na lang kaya Financial Literacy Curiculum instead na sex education ang i push ng govt, i'm pretty sure even ang mga anak nating elementary we would want them to understand the value of money.

tumpak Sir.
dapat, no matter what happens, lagi live below your means.

Financial literacy & the above principle, ayos na yun. :rakenrol:

On the other hand, may mga OFW who chose to remain OFW not because of poverty. It is because they are earning more than >500k Php per month. Some are even earning close to 1M monthly.

Di naman sa nilalahat ko no...pero most of the OFW's think like this. I'm an OFW myself, I should know. Ang sa akin is simple lang. Kung gusto, may paraan...kung ayaw..madami dahilan.

Life is full of struggles, whether here or abroad.

Its not the solution but a means to find the solution.
Being an OFW gives us wider perspective in life and in the world. It gives us new knowledge and experience which we can use back home. It also gives us sufficient benefits to be able to pay our debts and save some money. (that is if we continue to live within our means, which many people dont).

Its true what Langerhans is telling us..some guys earn big bucks. But its not what you earn or have that matters......it what you do with it.  :D

Agree with ric_tnt.

Filipinos should learn financial literacy.  We should be taught to spend only what we've earn, what we will still earn.
