What would happen if we had no OFW's?

What would happen to the Philippines if we had no OFW's?  Will our country survive the economic collapse that will definitely result from it?  Will all the families dependent on remittances survive the sudden lack of funds?  Will all our brothers and sisters striving in other countries survive with the few oppurtunities in the rp?  Will people die of starvation here?

After the economic collapse, will we get a better set of government officials?  Will we be more innovative to survive?  Will we strive harder, like how China, Vietnam, Korea, and Japan strive?  These countries that survived mass starvation and bankrupt economies, just to rise again stronger, without the need of sending their talent abroad?

Can we live on simpler things?  Can we survive without the appliances and material things we buy using remittances?  Will we be more business savvy?  More innovative?  More self-reliant?...more industrious, because we have to be to survive?

This is a though exercise that is impossible to happen...but what if?

If we were on a close door policy, then probably we can survive the absence of OFWs. Because,I think, in such policy, the government will adopt a whole new set of a totally different development program than what we have now.

Whereas, in an open door policy, like what we have now, it is what we have now. :coffee:

problem is pinoy's have been OFW's and immigrants right after world war 2. My lolo has brother's and cousins in the US who took college courses in the US (one is an inventor and engineer in the US) .

It would have been better for the Philippines to just create products in the Philippines and export it to other countries. But our system is now hard to untangle.  The baby boomers in the Philippines are what started all these OFW thingy. And still teaching it to their kids.

That is the reason why Filipinos are considered is the world as a country without its own culture. We are like chameleons. We change color depending on where we are. The kids of these baby boomer OFW's are being taught the wrong way by their parents.

We cannot grow on a country who just provide services. We need to create our own. Its an analogy between an employee / business owner. We have to become the business owner than the employee if we want to be a 1st world country. We cannot just go out there and become employees and servants for other countries.

no employee, no activity eki.

it is alright to have employees around, business owners around, and even bums around. that's is how the 'ecosystem' work.

you keep complaining about our country and yet you are still here, or you are still a filipino.

what needs change is the way we handle the goods. not the people's status in life. if we can produce, then produce. but we can never change the fact that it is every person's choice.

That is the reason why Filipinos are considered is the world as a country without its own culture. We are like chameleons. We change color depending on where we are. The kids of these baby boomer ofw's are being taught the wrong way by their parents.

we have our own culture, you probably just don't like it. the OFWs are already out there, you can't blame them, the government can afford them...can you afford to pay them if they work here? i doubt. so stop hitting them.

Only two things can happen..the economy will collapse..or it will not collapse..

And even if it collapses, with the resiliency of the filipinos..I beleive that the economy will recover.

So in both cases, it will be good for the country eventually.

The question to reduce the OFW's..and the dependence on them.

I got ekimonks point. Generally,we export labor. And thats no good at all if you look at it s a whole.

Foreigners working here are paid with international rates. While most Filipinos working abroad are paid at a much much much lower rate. Fair?

If theres no ofw, philippine economy would be chaotic i think. But in the long run, it will be better, how long the run be, maybe not in my lifetime. Call me selfish but id rather preserve the curent situation coz i feel if there is no ofw, philippines will be down there in my lifetime.

if there are no OFWs I think ekimonk2 has already died of hunger because he would not get a job because it was filled up, or at least a BUM.

Filipinos will surely surpass the problem that it will incur. Filipinos are known in finding ways to survive even in the hardest time. There is a large possibility that Filipinos will survive if ever this happens by putting up more business here in our country. Taking out call centers will surely cripple the Filipinos and not OFWs. Their remittances are a big help in our economy but we can survive more if we had a greater manpower here. Having a greater money circulation in our country is required to sustain the lives of Filipinos that are supposed working abroad.

with the kind and quality of political leaders that we have, I'm sure we are the 'poorest country in ASIA' if there will be no OFWs'  these people have the independence, strong will, and determination to improve their lives by working abroad due to lack of demand in our country.

Very bleak future. You have no idea how many economic sectors are driven by the broad C money.
