^Ako rin minsan ganyan - work hanggang mapagod. Ok lang mag-ot kasi wala namang uuwiang pamilya.

Here's how i cope with homesickness:

-i call at home (almost) daily even for just 3 mins usually before my wife & son's bedtime to know their day's events.. medyo magastos  nga lang.
-internet surfing, chat or text
-join church organization para while doing service i can also have a community where i could belong... usually basta organizations may mga activities din and outings. I also gained a lot of friends thru this.
-indulge in sports activities... i used to play tennis before... im not a pro...palipas oras lang
-window shopping

In my experience having a lot of good friends really helps in coping with homesickness.
Normally kasi homesickness sets in pag isolated ka.

Keep myself busy to make you tired and later on you find out that you feel like going to sleep. Idle minds is a house of the devil ika nga. Get yourself preoccupied always.

Actually di lang homesickness kalaban mo dito pati "Home-sex ness din". Kaya you got to find ways how to channel your energy with other things na to make you a better man or else mahuhulog ka talaga sa tukso.

My 3 cents.

I just came from from a convention abroad. Although I'm not an OFW,
I'm not immune to homesickness. What I do is try to connect with
friends and family via internet, text, at kung malala na, telephone.

Also, I try to go around during free times and look for kababayans. I
try to strike up conversations with them.

One time, I was in line in the Wyndham Resort's reception desk. 3 na lang
ang nasa harap ko, and it would be my turn. Another receptionist came
back from lunch and opened here window for inquiries. A line of 7 formed.

The receptionist looked Pinoy, so I left my place and lined up there.
When all 7 people finished, I asked her first in English. Sagot siya in
English na may American accent pa. Then, tinagalog ko na siya.

Her eyes grew wide, she smiled and exclaimed, "Uuy, tagalog!" Ang
tuwa niya na nakapagusap kami sa tagalog. She ended up giving
me complimentary breakfasts, which were not part of my discounted
accomodations.

This forum also helps us connect, diba?

I've been away for almost two years and I'm happy to say that I'm fortunate to have been blessed with awesome Pinoy friends who happen to live in the same building as I do. We have a huge group -- 8 to be exact -- and whenever a couple of us have days off on the same day/s we hang out at one flat which we call our HQ (Headquarters). We always cook and share meals together or watch Kapuso on Orbit cable. Whenever one of us is heartbroken or stressed with work, we always have each other to turn to. All of us also have boyfriends back home in Manila, so whenever we feel sentimental we turn to each other as well for comfort.

But of course, it's different when my barkada is not around -- I have skype to talk to my boyfriend every night or series that I missed because of work. I stock up on books as well.  :cool2:

Good to hear from you guys that you are legally staying there in your destination. Kapag it is the other way around naku mag-isip isip ka at pipili ng mabuting pinoy na kakaibiganin or else ipapatimbog ka upang makauwi ng di oras. Kaya eto solo flight.
