UITFs (unit investment trust funds) are ok. they replaced CTFs (common trust funds).

difference ng 2 UITF is marked to market while CTF is accrual method of valuation.

mas "maliit" kita ng UITFs or MFs compared to online investments. pag nagperform ng mga 8-10% net p.a. mga ganun funds maganda na yun =)

how would a UITF differ from a mutual fund? tiningnan ko yung Banco de Oro UITF, parang katulad nung Prosperity Funds ng Sunlife. last time i checked my Sunlife Equity Funds grew by 16% 1 year after i invested it, not bad. pero yung Bond Funds 7% after more than a year, parang maliit...

A few things I know:

1. Ang MFs regulated ng SEC, UITFs sakop ng BSP.
2. MFs have sales load, entry and exit fees, UITFs have trust fees.
3. MFs use accrual valuation but SEC has ruled that they will start using mark-to-market valuation starting Sept. 2006. Not sure about the date pero nag-shift na ata yung iba. Philam already did, I think. UITFs use mark-to-market valuation.
4. Net Asset Value Per Share (NAVPS) ang binabantayan sa MF, Net Asset Value Per Unit (NAVPU) sa UITF, but not much difference in what they represent.

nde ko pa rin gets anu pagkakaiba nila in terms of investment. ang Mutual Funds nagpo-pool para i-manage centrally ang funds at i-invest sa iba't ibang portfolio. panu ang UITF?

(Edit: I've written an article on the differences of UITFs and Mutual Funds. Check out UITFs vs. Mutual Funds

Combo? Siyempre may mapagtatanungan ako pero matagal sumagot sa text yun e. :p At 16% okay nga siya a.

Never tried mutual funds pero sabi they are nearly identical with UITF with some difference im not clear of.

Currently invested in BDO UITF, Philamlife MF, and BPI MF...

(halos all under the my mom, some sa akin)

So far ok ang performance nga ng peso bond fund nila, pero itong year lang nagstart talaga yung sa BDO...

Update ko kayo sa performance after a month.

Btw, very enticing talaga yung BDO UITF kasi 1)trust fee is .5-1%, 2) minimum is 10,000 (in some of their funds, sa iba naman P100,000) and 3) minimum lang rin ang witholding period. (yung ibang funds walang holding period, yung iba 30 days.

Sa mga interested rin pala sa MF dito, my close friend is one of the business development officers of PAMI or Philam Asset Management Group.  You can pm if you want more info.  Kaya lang January 2006 pa raw ulit sila maglalabas ng bagong units for peso and dollar mutual funds.

As for taxation, I'll ask my friend kung paano yung exact way na tinatax sila. Pero palagay ko either they deduct the tax from the entry or exit fees for the Mutual Funds and thru the trust fees for the Unit Investment Trust Funds

LOL, prepared ka to "invest" online but with UITFs, takot ka? :p

Siyempre they're not covered by PDIC as they're not deposit products. Pero regulated naman ng BSP.

:p  No, di naman ako takot.  Fact is, I have some UITFs din.  Kaya lang, what I am pointing out, is baka people has this notion na porke UITFs is being offered by banks, e covered na sila ng PDIC.

All our banks are being "regulated" naman by BSP.  But look what happened to Orient Bank?
