Does anyone know how to start a construction and hardware company? How much capital is needed? where do I find suppliers? Any input is welcome.  :help:

However, if u have a partner or want a corporation, start ka sa SEC for name registration. After that kasunod na yung sa BIR,Bgy permit, mayor's permit etc. Mas maige siguro punta ka sa munisipyo nyo then ask for the requirements.

Yung ibang nakita ko nagstart as parang ganito "Juan Gravel and Sand" hanggang sa naging "Juan Gravel, Sand and Gen. Merchandise". :cool2:

Ask mo din mga nasa Hardware Business. Yung iba nagshashare.

just my two cents!

Got two hardware shops until we consolidated (closed down one) it as one due to competition and economic problems. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend a hardware business. Sure, you'll have a never ending amount of customers, but it's a cutthroat competition that will force you to slash prices and shorten your lifespan.

Best way to start a hardware store is to have connections in the construction business. We have a lot of connections when starting so we never had any problems getting the stocks and the trust of our suppliers from day one. All of the stocks we have are in credit. I have no idea how to start one with no connections.

Location is also important. Don't place your shop anywhere that has another hardware store close by that your customers can easily come to.

An example of this will be the profit from the most salable of items which are paints, cement, lumber, metal (salable like def bar), plywood, and the horrible hollow blocks (basically the "raw" materials for a lack of a better term). You'll only get P5 for every 40kg sack from cement. For salable sizes of wood, you'll get P5 as well. Same goes for per gallon of paints (sometimes P10, if someone forgot to update the price when there's a sudden cost drop) that costs almost P500 (you'll get P5 for a 400+ peso paint). The only way you'll get a profit is from the not too salable materials, which are not too salable to begin with.

The salable items have a very short credit date. Cement is almost cash. I wouldn't divulge too much so I'm just giving you an idea on what to expect.

You will get an occasional project though, that is where you'll actually make a profit, but these projects are few and far in between so don't hold your breath.

Minus, the delivery (gas, maintainance of vehicles, people) from what tiny profits that you'll make and I swear, it takes a lot of patience to deal with "barats" since it's easy to them to flip a yellow page or go somewhere else to get a better deal by comparing your quote to your "kalaban".

Lalo na yung mga sealants (e.g. Vulcaseal) which have an estimated lifespan of 1 year. So you have to return them back to your supplier before the expiration date. Don't worry, you don't have to return them personally, you can tell your supplier in advance before their next route.

Almost forgot. May mga magnanakaw pa dyan. Syempre dapat may bodega ka to place your large amounts of items (e.g couple of thousand cement, plywood, etc.), and I highly doubt that you'll be the one personally counting them so you'll have a bodegero that should be trusted dahil madalas uso ang pagbili ng trust ng bodegero (e.g. change marine plywood to ordinary plywood). Patay ka na agad dyan.

I have a lot of customers who are loyal to me, but even with that, it's already a nightmare in paying the rent, electricity, manpower (you'll need a lot of them), etc just to balance things out.

The above profits are only for walk-ins. For the "big buyers", you're going to slash the tiny profits even more (sometimes Php 1.00 for every sack of cement.

We have a lot connections and credit (almost zero initial capital for the stocks) in our business so we have a lot of help beforehand in establishing it.

I'm just giving a candid perspective of a hardware/construction store owner.

Unfortunately, I cannot refer you to any of my suppliers because this is an unspoken rule.

Pasensya na sa pagiging pessimistic. Ingat lang.

The bright side in all of these is that you'll never get bored.
