Been thinking of investing on MF since looking at the history for both Philequity PSEIX and FAMISALEF are promising.

Some questions though, is it a good time to invest on MF and what is the future outlook sa trend? Bababa ba ito in  the next couple of months or tataas pa. I'm just a beginner so I don't know how to analyze these yet but would want to know kung kailan ba best time to invest in MF.

Also, between the two, ano pipiliin nyo? Philequity o FAMI?

hi to all FAMI investors, just wanna ask where do you monitor the daily NAVPS

i visited the website of FAMI, i couldnt find the daily NAVPS result.
How can you monitor the previous/latest daily price of the NAVPS?

@bj, for historical data, check pifa.com.ph

@xtian, dude I invested at the PEAK of 2007.
Right before everything came crashing down and I'm way way
ahead right now.

Heck even if I didn't cost average and did a lump sum investment,
I would still be ahead now, the NAV then was in the low 2s as in mga
2.1x but now its 3.5x I'm talking about Sunlife's mutual fund btw.

Also, technically you can't compare the two, as Philequity is an Index Fund
while Fami is an actively managed fund. But if you're talking about Philequity's Equity Fund
then it comes down to image and a big backer which Philequity lacks.

While FAMI is backed by Metrobank, but the service sooo totally sucks.

They both have great performance.

^ I thought one of the issues of Philequity ay yung mas mataas na load nila as compared sa ibang companies?

It didn't cross my mind, to me all funds with sales load is the same
hehe. I checked and it does have a bigger load than FAMI.

Hi bj71,

I don't think Metrobank accepts FAMI applications. I got this from the FAMI site (see below). But you can pay through Metrobank. And after your application gets processed, you can also view your fund through metrobankdirect.

For Initial Investment

Step 1. Get a copy of the Prospectus and study it.

Step 2. Fill out an Account Opening Form (AOF), Investment Application Form (IAF) and  Signature Cards and submit the documents  together with the following:

For individual (personal) accounts, please submit a photocopy of two (2) valid IDs

Step 3. Make your investment through the following mode of payments:

    Cash
Checks payable to the Fund of your choice:
First Metro Save & Learn Equity Fund, Inc.
First Metro Save & Learn Balanced Fund, Inc.
First Metro Save & Learn Fixed Income Fund, Inc.
First Metro Save & Learn Money Market Fund, Inc.
    Deposit  directly at  Metrobank Account

Step 5. Submit a copy of the accomplished forms and deposit slip  and fax to Fax No. (02) 816-0467 or email at FAMI@firstmetro.com.ph, then forward the originals to our office address afterwards, or you can pouch it to any Metrobank Branches near you. FAMI Pouch Code# 90020. For checks received, booking of investment will be made upon clearing of the check.

Laki ng difference ng sales load nila. 2%.. ung un big turn off sa Philequity. And dat's a BIG difference if you take compounding into consideration. And ung exit fee nila, malaki din ung difference. lets say you invest P50,000 a year and 2% of dat is P1,000. Sa unang tingin maliit lang difference, pero if yearly or monthly ka nag iinvest and long term ang approach, balang araw baka makabili ka pa ng sasakyan sa difference ng fees. Yeah, both funds perform strongly, but dat's not the only factor to consider. hehe kung mag iinvest ka nalang din, dun ka na sa mas mallit na fees.. Cheers!

^If i'm not mistaken, ung minimum amount to invest must also be considered. Philequity PSE Index, I think the min is 200k and 50k subsequent as compared to SALEF, 10k lang and 1k lang pag mag additional ka. You can use cost averaging to the fullest. Cost averaging i think is the most efficient way to grow your investment in MF. Nagstart kasi ako siguro 3k monthly sa SALEF and collectively in 3 years, naka 6 digit na ung amount ng total value ng investment ko with them. hehe not bad. Do you think magagawa ko yun sa Philequity PSE Index?

tanong lang, kung pupuwede ka bang mag-apply ng FAMI kung nasa labas ka ng pinas sa kasalukuyan?

Yeah, I agree. Fees can be a big factor over the long term.

if index funds are really the target, BPI's Phil. Stock Index fund is more affordable (10K initial investment, plus 1.5% management fees per annum compared to something like 200K and 2% sales load or some other fees).

If an equity fund is all that's needed, consider also BDO's equity fund. I've heard good feedback about the performance. and uitfs generally have lower fees than mutual funds.

Also, PhilEquity might have the top1 or top2 performing fund (and a whole host of awards, based on what I've seen on their website), but if you factor in the fees they charge, they might not be the ones who will give you the better overall return on your money. Just try out the math.
