Title: Advice and suggestions to a first-time investor =)
Post by: Bahay_Kubo on Apr 01, 2012, 07:11 PM
Hello everyone!

This is actually the first time that I am contemplating on the possibility on investing on a mutual fund or a UITF. Being a first-timer, I would like to seek the advice and suggestions of a lot of you here since it seems to me that you have been in the business of investing on mutual funds, UITFs and VULs for quite some time now.

I have a dispensable income amounting PHP 5,000. It's quite small compared to others with lots of dispensable income but I believe that it will go a long way if I will put it in a good investment such as a mutual fund, UITF and VUL.

The dilemma that I have, however, is that I want to know where is the best place to invest this PHP 5,000 blessing from God. Should I put it in a mutual fund, a UITF or a VUL? Which will also be the "safest" option for a first-timer like me among a balanced fund, an equity fund and a government securities-based fund?

Thank you so much in anticipation of your responses! God bless!

5K? Pwede ka na mag mutual fund or uitf. Yun vul ay kasama ng life insurance so I doubt makakapag invest ka ng 5k lang sa vul. :)

You could start with Balanced fund kung less than 5yrs ang investment time horizon mo. ;)

Hi! :)

Thank you for the response. I truly appreciate it. :)

I'm 30 years old. I'm looking at the possibility of holding on to my funds for as long as I can, three to five years the least. :)

Mag-balanced fund muna ako? Yun ba ang for short-term? How about equity funds? May nakita kasi ako na pwede na makapag-invest sa equity fund sa Sun Life for just 5k, although it's very risky compared to a balanced fund.

Sa balanced funds, I'm looking at two mutual funds: the one by Sun Life at yung GSIS Fund ng PAMI. If there are better options, please mention them. :)

Thanks again! God bless!

^Sunlife? Ayaw mo ba sa FAMI? Mas mabilis/ malaki ang returns dun. :D If you plan to invest for 3-5yrs, mag balanced fund ka na lang... less risk than Equity. :)

Sir,
you are talking about the past.
extraordinary yung moves ng local stock market recently. hindi ibig sabihin nun, guaranteed na tuloy tuloy ang ligaya in the next few years.
karamihan ng new traders/investors ay sinwerte lang kasi good timing yung pasok ng investment nila. iba yung good timing sa pagkakaroon ng good skill. do not get confused, iba ang luck at iba ang skill.

Sir Bahay Kubo,
pag-aralan at magresearch ka mabuti bago ka mag-invest.
i suggest magtipid ka pa & palakihin mo pa yung kapital mo.
Good luck!

Here is my 4 checklist in choosing mutual funds:

1. Fees - how much are the fees? I like zero upfront fee and low management fees.
2. Ease of Transaction - Are they easy to deal with, Can I transfer via internet banking? Can I view the performance easily? Website perhaps. How do they treat their clients?
3. Sphere of Confidence - I check if the funds objective/philosophy is in line with mine. The equity/bond they purchase do I feel confident on their decision making, Their fund managers track record also should be disclosed.
4. Transparency - Do they give a transparent quarterly report?

 :help: :help: :help:

I'm 30 and planning to do some investments sa mutual funds (SUN Life, since may life insurance at flexilink na po ako sa kanila) kahit maliit lang.

@smasayuki, you can compare those MFs you are selecting in pifa.com.ph
Andun sunlife, fami,philam,philequity and others

Personally, i prefer looking at the 3yr. And the more prominent 5yr return, kasi included pa dun how the fund performed during the 2008 crisis

So magandang basis pala etong nakaraang 5 years ng performance.
Good lak naman saken waaa
