15% TO 20% (OR MORE) PER ANNUM INTEREST RATES OF SOME OF THE RURAL BANKS MENTIONED HERE IS SOMETHING YOU JUST CAN'T IGNORE. BUT THERE ARE SOME QUESTIONS ARE BOTHERING ME REGARDING THESE BANKS. THERE AS FOLLOW:
                           1) NOT ALL RURAL BANKS ARE INSURED BY PDIC RIGHT?
                           2) IN CASE SOME OF THEM ARE, IS THERE A SPECIFIC PERIOD OF THEIR INSURANCE?
                           3) IN CASE THERE IS AN INSURANCE PERIOD SPECIFIED BY PDIC, WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO YOUR DEPOSIT IF THE BANK SUDDENLY CLOSE AFTER THE INSURANCE PERIOD EXPIRED?
                           4) IN YOUR PREVIOUS EXPERIENCES WITH THESE BANKS, WHICH OF THESE BANKS ARE MORE DEPENDABLE? WHICH DO YOU RECOMMEND THE MOST?
                           5) IF YOU HAVE LET SAY 1 MILLION PESOS TO INVEST, DO YOU PREFER TO INVEST ALL IN THESE BANKS OR ARE YOU GOING TO DIVERSIFY YOUR INVESTMENT? HOW DO YOU PREFER TO DO IT?

HOPE YOU CAN HELP ME WITH THESE QUERIES THANKS...

il try to answer your queries, to as far as i understand, point by point.

1. i understand rural banks have a license and they are bsp and pdic members., for you to get relief check the BSP website, before you engage in a transaction

2. as of the moment, i dont hear any instances/limitations of period of coverage, as far as i know, limitations is only on the amount per depositor. 250k. read pdic notices on this.

3. as number 2.

4. no one can assure recommedation, maybe I can share experience, but never would I recommend, at the end of the day, you should decide it for yourself, you need to assess your risk appetite on your own, for there is no such thing as a risk free investment.

5. if i have 1million, i will invest it into 4 different member banks of which pay interest monthly, atleast im assured of the 250k pdic insurance for my capital.

but i will reiterate, if it is my own 1m, for that is my risk appetite and that's how i mitigate risk.

hope this helps!

hey dark knight,
i'm glad you are going this route with the rural banks instead of blowing your hard earned money with stocks.  investing in these rural banks has been a blessing to me, not only are the interest rates great and with your deposit insured with pdic, these banks really do help the local economies develop and helps a lot of people.  good luck! :applause:

so, ok lang to invest  in any rural bank basta hindi lalagpas ng 250k dahil insured naman yun ng PDIC?

naku sakit sa ulo pag nagsara...baka abutin ng taon bago mo makuha pera mo...yang high interest na yan eh may pag-immoral na...kaya unstable yan...its up to you kung papatulan mo yan, the risk much much higher than if you put your money in a more stable bank...bakit mo ba pinag-iisipan yan, di ka siguro regular employee at walang inaasahan na pensyon pagtanda ano?

i agree with pingles....but investing on RURAL BANKS is not bad at all....you just have to know the bank(stability), inside the bank(officers), behind the bank(owners), within the bank(operations)....some of them are giving high interest rates and giving incentives such as cellular phones or a 1 year advance interest, or even a sack of rice....but when time comes, you will just know that they closed due to they are involved in a syndicated quasi-pyramiding.
wahahaha....it's not a fiction...it's a FACT.

there is a general rule that was taught to us before:

"if an investment guarantees an interest higher than universal bank loan rates you better run from it".

now this is just a thought. it's up to the readers to believe it or not.

hindi naman kaya madalas dikitan ng mga politiko itong mga rural banks for some reasons dito nila nilalagay yung DIRTY MONEY (Money Laundering) gamit ang mga dummies na may- ari ng banko?   sana hindi naman ganun, kundi malaking kasiraan sa banking industry as a whole. :peace:

rural banks are under BSP regulations, as well as audits.

in a way, all the accounts of the this banks should be accounted for, as for the AML procedures, it is also the responsibility of the BSP to implement such, to prevent this banks being used for such purpose.

the latest findings of the BSP is about capitalisation requirements and is not about un explained assets. being an auditor, procedures should include test on the client's custody, ownership as well as valuation of assets.

just my thoughts!

Guys actually rural banks offer higher rates to attract depositor/investors and note that in general.
"note that with higher interest comes higher risk" and it depends on the depositor if he prefers to go
with low interest but better stability that commercial banks offer or go for higher rates but higher risks that Rural banks can offer....

Rural banks will definitely go down first as compared to Commercial banks and need to ensure that the investments will be < 250T Php for PDIC to cover in case of any bank foreclosures...

Nothing is free in the world today there will always be pros and cons...

just make sure you understand everything about what you're getting into (whether rural banks, bonds, stocks, forex, etc.). and don't blame anything or anyone else for any mishap to your investments. most people think of just the rewards parts without considerable thought to the risks.

Thanks Lhorie.... seems you are connected in BMS. I should say BMS is quite ok when I went in Dasma branch last time in may (I think)... Problem is the products involved are all lock in without monthly out. I even asked the manager that Im willing to subject my 250k in a 5year lock in as long as monthly interest is out.

Can you confirm if you have this type of product now? if yes then whats the interest rate per annum. Could you also send me docs like the statement of condition and its lateset Financial statement? Thanks

just send it to me at ahock47@yahoo.com

ADHOCK ,

Pards why go 5 years with BMS if they have a one year at 7 to 8 percent advance interest and 3 percent kung bigay nila ay 2 percent upon maturity so you can invest the 7 or 8 percent advance interest in a high risk investment WITHOUT  PDIC making around 5 to 10 percent per month masunog  ito hindi masakit since parang naglagay ka lang sa commercial bank sa huli since may 3 percent ka pa sa maturity AT ONE YEAR  LANG  NAMAN ...PERO KUNG MAAYOS ANG PINALaGYAN MO NG 7 percent interest na kikita ka ng 82 percent per year plus the 3 percent  upon maturity of td mo with bms

Cardinal and oriental banks are still standing despite the recent massive withdrawals due to panic and irrational thinking of investors. My original agent (real estate broker) also sent me an e-mail that the 2 banks are financially sound even at this time. I still continue to get my interests via BDO. Although, they have reduced their rates, I guess, this is still the best so far, according to my research. 12%-15%./ annum
I think the main branch of Cardinal banks is in Poblacion, Naga City.
Good luck.

Hi everyone again,

The pdic guarantee scheme is law right?

Its just when a goverment backed scheme is in a european country then thats as safe as it gets..i do know however that ph can be "diffucult" in this regard.

You Guys are better placed than me to advise but im am amazed that the pdic would behave in this manner and im get the feeling from the posts that the guarantee is worthless.

The only attraction for me to the Rural banks was that the 500k guarantee is in place, without this even the high interest is not enough to attract me to invest because of the risk involved.

thanks and god bless

kamusta naman ang GMA Bank?

i think the Sterling bank of asia has some interest in Gmabank via a holding company based on their website

Sterling Bank of Asia is principally owned by the JTKC Group of Companies, Surewell Equities, and Star Equities. JTKC Group of Companies and Star Equities are involved in a wide range of industries, ranging from logistics to finance, real estate, manufacturing, hotel and resort properties. Some of these companies include I-Remit Inc., TKC Steel Corp., Discovery Leisure Company (Discovery Suites, Discovery Country Suites-Tagaytay and Discovery Shores-Boracay), The Mansion Group (Amorsolo Mansion, Gilarmi Apartments, Mabini Mansion, Boulevard Mansion), JTKC Land, Discovery Primea, and Kent Vinyl Tiles. Surewell Equities, on the other hand, is a holding company engaged in various interests, among which are, Confed Properties, Inc., I-Remit Inc., GMA Bank, Flexi-Woods, Inc., Banwood Construction Center and Six Alps Corp.

they lowered their rates since May. no more 11.57% net for a 1 year TD. but still offer good rates

Better wait & see how Pdic would service those claims. if Pdic can at least payback Bitster 70% of his total claim, then maybe they can earn back the trust of the investing public.

Kevin, open your eyes wide before jumping into this type of business..
Weigh the pros and cons, advantages and disadvantages, if you can stand the heat, go for it, if not, go into something else.
In short, you are the best to judge if this one is for you.

Neo_depositor,

That's a bit hard to answer especially now that a lot of rural banks are facing the slammer.Dont get me wrong rural banks are still good investment. You need to back read on on several threads here about rural banks and you will have a inkling of  which rural bank to trust your money into. The important part is do a bit of research yourself. Personally Bank of Makati and First Country is on the top of my list but thats just me.

Bank of Makati and First Country Bank are the rural banks i have exposure with.

Hi! I am new here. Always did things on my own....until I found this site. I am not here to receive but also to give my own knowledge.

Does anyone know which rural bank is giving the best rate for time deposits? And for those who experienced having deposits in rural banks that closed, how long did you have to wait for your PDIC claim? Never invested in rural banks before but i am considering now. Kinda tiring checking technical graphs monitoring movement of stocks...although I will forever be a stock investor.

Hmm, what's with Double Your Money in 5 years? Is that illegal now? That's only 14.87percent per annum and if the bank is lending at at 2percent to 3percent/month even only at an interest only monthly amortization with the principal payble at the end of the term, they should still be profitable. What more if the principal payments of the loans are to be amortized also monthly? In that case, 2percent/month's effective rate is not only 24% but maybe around 40% per annum.

Legacy/RBOP's DYM was offered before by agents with an interesting incentive to the depositor: advance one year interest daw. Thus, if you deposit P1M for a DYM5Years program, you receive OUTRIGHT your advance one year supposed income of P200,000!  I learned from an agent that they get a 10% commission. (I think an agent for these products should only get 1to2percent max.) Assuming that the commission is based on the net deposit of P800,000 (after deducting the 20% advance interest), what the bank actually received is only P720,000 which it should return at P2million in five years! In other words, its cost of money is no longer 14.87% p.a. only, but much more. That's why I didn't invest in their bank. (Eventualy, legacy/rbop was offering DYM in 3 years...again through agents!) I didn't invest in other rural banks because i wasn't really looking to invest with them...and no agents approached me. hehe. I was more into stocks/mutual funds.

I don't know if there is a BSP/PDIC cap on interest rates, but I think there should be. I don't know why RBOP was allowed to do it for almost a decade. Other rural banks and even bigger banks were in a way forced to increase their deposit rates because if they don't, depositors would naturally transfer their deposits from them to RBOP.

However, deposits should always be insured regardless of the interest rate (which on the other hand the PDIC should really not insure). I think this is still the rule up to P500,000. It's a question how long you get your claim.

I agree that we should ask BSP first if our deposits with these banks are really insured, specially if there is really such a rule that they won't be if they are 50% above peer banks.

many rural banks nowadays are being bought by bigger banks...when dealing with rural banks, try to know the owners and their reputation in the community..
