Make money from the Manny Pacquiao-David Diaz fight

(Fight Results / Update): Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao knocked out (KO) WBC lightweight champion David Diaz in the 9th round and became the first Asian to hold four different titles at different weights and the first Filipino to hold the crown. Tomorrow when the Manny Pacquiao-David Diaz fight starts, several Filipinos will surely make money once more — and it doesn’t matter if Pacquiao or Diaz won.

Who will make money? Here are some of them.

1. Cable operators. Last time, cable firms had a 25% increase in pay-per-view clients because of the Pacquiao-Marquez bout. Local cable TV networks will surely experience an increase in sales again because of the Pacquiao-Diaz: Lethal Combination telecast.

2. Cinemas, hotels, and restaurants showing the fight. SM Cinemas and Robinsons Movieworld are said to be charging up to P500 for the live telecast of the boxing duel. Offering a combination of lunch and telecast of the fight, Gaisano City Mall food court is charging P100 while L’Fisher Hotel is charging P610. Other stores and shops showing the fight will most probably see a surge in clients as the latter eagerly await the results of the Pacquiao-Diaz duel.

3. Small-time entrepreneurs. Do you have pay-per-view subscription and you want to make money from the fight? Charge your neighbors a small fee and let them watch the fight. Last time, I know some families who charged P10-20 per person who came to watch the fight.

4. SEO bloggers. Several Filipino bloggers have been optimizing their blogs for some time now to ensure that their blogs will land on the front page of the search results for keywords such as “Manny Pacquiao-David Diaz boxing fight” or “watch Pacquiao-Diaz fight free.” A quick search at Google shows dozens of blogs trying to attract visitors looking for information about the fight to click on their site (and eventually, on the Google Adsense ads). Let’s see who among the bloggers will write about their increased online income because of this.
