BALAKUBAK! My battle against dandruff.

  • I got rid of it but I had this problem like mga 1 year.  I tried all sorts of anti-dandruff shampoo - Gard, Head and Shoulders and Nizoral kaso bumabalik pa rin.

Meron ding mga alternative solutions 'yung messenger namin.  Kalamansi daw. Selsun Blue pala.

Ewan ko ba, ang dami kong pinagtanungan. Ang daming prescription, mukhang hindi naman effective.

It's really embarassing.

    Until I found a cure...

Your dandruff is the result of dryness na nag-flaflakes po yung scalp.
try nyo po 4 consecutive days before you go to bed...Virgin coconut oil or baby oil. massage nyo po sa scalp till covered, then try to observed nyo po kung nag-normalize na yung scalp condition nyo po.  :hello: this is what i do kapag pansin ko dry yung scalp ko at nag-flaflakes.
kapag ok na po, gawin nyo pong shampoo is Johnson baby shampoo which is Mild for the scalp at mabango pa amoy baby :hihi: and use it 3 to 4 times a week lang
it worked for me siguro po it may work sa inyo  :hello:

  • I use 1 tbsp. olive oil and 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise plus half teaspoon ng kalamansi. mix it all together apply ko sa scalp and hair then leave it for 30 minutes before shampooing. I do it at least once a month as a form of hot oil treatment.

By the way.  Hindi ako promoter ng product ah.  Pero effective talaga.  Ginagamit ko ngayon Clear.  No dandruff talaga.

  • ^... hindi daw promoter.. :hihi:
it's good to hear that you found the right shampoo.

ang dandruff po, maraming causes... pwede pong dry scalp, pwede ring  bacteria, pwede rin pong oily scalp (because after some time of treating an oily scalp, flaking may occur)

kaya dapat po, pag pipili ng anti-dandruff shampoo (or alternative cure), yung naaayon po sa dahilan ng problema.  what may work for one person may not work for another.

sometimes,  just switching to another shampoo (even if it's not an anti-dandruff shampoo) can cure dandruff.  basta po yung shampoo kayang i-address yung condition ng scalp.

to prevent dandruff naman po, dapat po magpalit ng shampoo kapag nagbago na yung condition ng scalp... meron pong mga months na prone to dryness ang skin and scalp, and meron namang months na nagiging oily.  hindi po pwedeng parehong shampoo ang gamitin dito.

mahirap nga lang po makahanap ng right shampoo for a scalp condition... madalas, trial and error po talaga...

  • I agee with sapphrene. Susuportahan ko lang sinabi niya.

Actually from what I know of is that dandruff is the layman's term for excessive shedding of the scalp's skin. In short, sobrang "libag" ng scalp. It is normal for some flaking to occur as the topmost layer is continuously replaced by new skin cells underneath. But excessive shedding or dandruff is not. Which brings us to the next question, what causes this?

One cause is infection, usually fungal, less commonly head lice. That is why we have the most commonly prescribed antifungal shampoos, such as Nizoral and Head and Shoulders, Gard, Clear.

Another group of cause is your allergies (seborrheic dermatitis) and autoimmune diseases (psoriasis). One thing common to these two diseases, is too much immunity. In short, your body's defense system (immune system), as a reaction to different factors (trigger factors) as extremes of temperature (too much heat), chemicals (shampoos-even antidandruff), stress (emotional, physical) and etc (yup, pwedeng kahit ano) rapidly kill the skin cells of the scalp resulting to a rapid cell turnover (kasi ang mga libag are actually dead skin cells).

So how do you treat your dandruff? First know the cause. It's the dermatologist who would take a sample of your scalp skin to know if this is fungal or not. Kung ayaw naman, then trial and error na. If it turns out to be not because of fungi (sabi ng derma or di umuubra ang nizoral, head and shoulders, etc) then, it must be a form of allergy or psoriasis (being the former the most common).

If it's allergy then, look for the trigger - seasonal changes, your current shampoo, stress, etc. So, look for the right shampoo (the one you won't have any reaction with), avoid stress, avoid too much humidity, heat or cold, etc.

Finally, nizoral contains ketoconazole, while head and shoulders & pantene pro-V contains zinc pyrithione. I would assume Clear has the latter component, too (check na lang). But studies say its ketoconazole that's better.

  • Yes, may pagka trial and error talaga.  Even my derma prescribed several anti-dandruff shampoo for me.  Papalit-palit din.  Right now, Clear seems to be working for me fine.  Pag medyo severe, I use Nizoral.  For a while, Head and Shoulders is ok for me.

    -  Pag nag apply ka nang shampoo kunti lang and you have to mix with small amount of water just enough to cover your scalp para hindi matapang. Then, i apply agad evenly sa scalp at wag patagalin banlawan agad kc ang purpose lang naman luminis ang buhok, then apply small amount of hair conditioner and that's it. whatever type of brand.  At please, wag gumamit nang sabon, kc sabon is formulated para sa balat at hindi sa buhok and Shampoo is for hair talaga.

For me its practical and very effective.  Kaya buhok maintain talaga.
