GMA-7 to launch more channels in Malaysia, Canada

LISTED BROADCASTER GMA Network, Inc. plans to launch more international channels by the end of the third quarter, this time in Malaysia and Canada.

"By September, GMA International, Inc. aims to make GMA Pinoy TV, GMA Life TV and GMA News TV International available in Malaysia via ABN, and GMA Life TV and GMA News TV International in Canada via Telus, a statement on Friday showed.

The company had already launched a news channel in Canada in February via MTS Allstream, the leading full-service communications provider in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

The additional launches come after the company expanded its international viewership in North America and the Middle East in the first half.

"With these launches, GMA Pinoy TV subscribers now total 306,000, or over two million viewers worldwide," the statement read.

Joseph T. Francia, vice-president and head of operations for GMA International, said the company is also planning more launches later this year.

"Filipinos abroad can definitely expect a wider coverage from the network by the second half of this year as GMA International targets to reach more Pinoy subscribers, specifically those in the US and the Asia Pacific," Mr. Francia said in the statement.

GMA posted P388 million net income in the first quarter, down by 27% from P533.6 million last year on the back of higher operational expenses.

Shares of GMA rose by 1.12% to P10.64 apiece when the stock market closed on Friday. -- Cliff Harvey C. Venzon

Last June 28 we saw GMA7 gap up followed by an uptrend movement for a few days then we saw a confirmed Hanging Man that reverses the trend. While it was going south we saw some indicators that suggests reversal like the two Dojis on July 19 and 20 but it wasn’t confirmed and a consolidation mode begun. Last week the general trend was downward and our last candlestick is a Hammer (looks like a Dragonfly Doji too). Both indicators suggest that the price might reverse.

With the news dying down as quickly as when MVP said that "they are on again" (MVP – GMA, sometimes on, sometimes off) the stock is still trending sideways. Last time we checked on this stock until now it has been trading on the 23.6% Fibonacci Retracement level with a bias of going down. RSI below 30 indicating that it is oversold but volume is so thin. Maybe speculators are used up with the GMA-TV5 rumor. Maybe someone broke the switch at the "off" position? Caveat!

GMA has been generally trending downward since July as presented in the chart. Although there were some rallies along the way but they were not so big. Current price rests below the 23.6% Fibonacci retracement level. Is it going to break from the support or smashes the resistance soon? The way the pattern was formed, I think it will go near the resistance. Candlesticks doesn't give us a clue as to where it will go. Maybe we will just see some continuation pattern candlesticks but one Kicking stick may change the CHANNEL.

Earlier today we thought GMA7 will have a technical rebound but instead it falls down big time breaking the support from the slope and the 38.2% Fibonacci Retracement level. RSI is now very low at 21. What is the reason of the sell off? When stocks go down deep like this, its is a good chance for us to pick a good price. Monitor price movement.

The disappointment that brought by the bad news about GMA's JV with MVP last October 4 seems to have already been accepted by the traders and investors. Its on the first week of this month that the price went down badly with a gap down. GMA is now recovering but it may be slow for now. We can see on the chart that BULLISH GRAVESTONE DOJI formation found after the fall has taken its effect. There might be a headwind along the way like the one we saw last October 9 but bulls are trying to build its camp. Maybe closing the gap soon?

To qualify as bullish gravestone doji there should be a downtrend. Then we see a red body formed at the lower end of the trading range. It will be followed by a Doji, which does not have a lower shadow in the second day. Gap down is not required where the doji will appear.

GMA7 almost close the gap (or we may consider it closed) but after that we see a bearish signal waiting for confirmation. Daily chart shows a pattern that looks like an Abandoned Baby (less the gap of the doji), are we going to see a reverse move of GMA7 while rival ABS is going to do well?

This type of pattern tells us that after a rally, the bulls and the bears don't know where to bring the price and then the next day, bears dominate the battlefield. A downward gap or a large black candlestick will confirm the reversal.

Yesterday, GMA closed at 9.8.
May selling na naman ba or just due to incoming election?
Looks like it's bullish 'til election.
So it's a good buy.
I might be wrong.
