SpaPot: par value is basically the unit value of a security assigned by the corporation. Has no significance whatsoever UNLESS it's a preferred share (all dividends are expressed as % of par) OR it's a bond, where it is the face value (meaning: a bond for P50,000 means it has a face vale of P50K, and can either trade at a discount or premium depending on market circumstances. Since I'm not a bond player, I know nothing about this)

Kyuri: Intelligent Investor is a good start. Do NOT read Security Analysis unless you have a background in Accounting, 'cause you won't be able to comprehend it very well. And imo, you're better off using real money, since you have an incentive for excellent performance.

hello po, I'm interested in stocks. But as of now I am still studying, reading infos about stocks. Tanong ko lang po kung meron ba sa website ng PSE na history prices ng mga stocks. I mean yon katulad ng nakikta sa newspaper sa Business page. Di ba meron sila history ng mga prices ng stocks ng nagdaang araw.

Saka po pag bumili ba ako ng stocks tas i decided to sell it the next day pede po ba yun?

Lets consider this scenario.

On March, u bought like 100,000 shares of BPI @ 10 per share.
December, ang price is around @50 per share, when trying to sell the 100,000 shares at 50 per share in ( 1 day ), does it always match? Ano techniques or can you try to sell them in small pieces, like 10,000 shares e benta @50, tomorrow 50,000 shares@50 ? Sell the 100,000 shares @ 4.95 while ang price sa market is @5 per share ?

Depends on the brokerage I think.

One time I posted a Buy Order in COL, and it was for about 12000 shares.

The thing is, after an hour, I saw that around 4000 shares have been purchased, with the remaining 8 lots outstanding. Fortunately for me, the order was completed within the day so I didn't have to worry about issuing an ATO off-hours order.

You can buy/sell them in pieces, but only if they follow the required board lots.

They also have an "odd lot" market, where the stocks are normally cheaper, but from my understanding the stocks are also less liquid... but I have no experience there so my opinion regarding the odd lot market is, well, full of sh*t. XD LOL

lol true. this odd lot thing is annoying you cant further break your remaining "ammo". ako puro divisible by board lots nalang para sure buy. just have to round it off to the nearest allowable lot.

I know of someone trading oddlots fulltime everyday. He just collects all low-priced oddlots, and then combine them to make a few board lots out of it and sell it with a modest profit. According to him, he makes around 500-1000 everyday just trading the oddlots. Very time and labor consuming, but not bad.

Hi guys, maybe this is another stupid question pero pasensya na, di ako economics major. :help:

meron ba makakapag explain about Year end EPS(Earning per share)
Three month lang ba yun or for the whole year? For example yung AP.. ang year end EPS nya is 0.77
and Interim EPS(9 months) niya is 2.519 since mas malaki yung Interim eps pwede natin masabi na yung
year end eps is 3 months lang, Oct - Dec. Saka 2.519÷3 = 0.84 Di na sya masyadong malayo sa year end eps na 0.77

stock:  AP (http://www.pse.com.ph/html/MarketInformation/stockinfo.jsp?securitySymbol=AP)
YearEnd EPS (End: 31-Dec-2009)      0.77
Interim EPS (Period: 9mos Sep 2010)    2.519

But for MWC you can see that Year end EPS > Interim EPS. Medyo malabo yata na
Mas malaki pa yung kinita ng company for 3 months (1.31) kesa sa kinita nya for 9 months(1.21).
This leads me to think na yung year end eps is for 12 months. Saka 1.21 divide by 3 (First 3 quarter) = 0.40
and 1.31/4 (4 quarters) = 0.3275 di na rin masyadong malaki ang difference sa 0.40

stock: MWC (http://www.pse.com.ph/html/MarketInformation/stockinfo.jsp?securitySymbol=MWC)
YearEnd EPS (End: 31-Dec-2009)      1.31
Interim EPS (Period: 9mos Sep 2010)    1.21

Nag research ako pero wala akong makita na nagde define ng interim and year end EPS. So ano kaya talaga yung
year end EPS? For 12 months ba to or for the remaining 3 months?

YearEnd EPS (End: 31-Dec-2009)      0.77

Net Income (NI) Attributable to parent [from Jan 1 2009 to Dec 31,2009] = 5,658,581
Divided by: Weighted Average (WA) number of common shares = 7,358,604
YE 2009 EPS = 0.77

Interim EPS (Period: 9mos Sep 2010)    2.519

Tutal stated naman ang Period, ibig sabihin YTD yan.
Net Income (NI) Attributable to parent [from Jan 1 2010 to Sep30,2010] = 18,538,376
Divided by: Weighted Average (WA) number of common shares = 7,358,604
Interim EPS = 2.519

buti na lang may FS ako ng AP sa excel ko hehe... encoded ko lng naman ito :)

pero pag binasa mo ang "weekly market watch" ng PSE, di nila ginagamit ang 2 yan.
they are using the "latest four-quarter trailing financial data." a.k.a LTM or TTM

minsan kasi may makikita kang "EPS(TTM)" sa mga reports like reuters and bloomberg
TTM = Trailing-twelve months
LTM = Latest twelve months

I totally disagree with TSO and dinaren. "Odd lots" is nothing more than trading shares below board lot. This is very helpful say if you have 604 shares in company, and it trades at board lots of 10, you have the opportunity to either sell your 4 odd lots shares or buy 6 odd lots shares to complete a board lot.

Having odd lots shares usually happens during share offerings where you are given a chance to buy shares at a percentage of your current holdings. Also , it could happen when there is a board lot change due to share price depreciation. As we all know board lots tend to decrease as share prices reaches higher multiples. Ex. TEL trading at 2000 pesos level has a board lots of 5 while EDC trading at 6 pesos has a board lot of 100. Hypothetically, If you have 105 TEL shares and TEL would drop to EDC's price level, then you will have 5 odd lot share. If there was no odd lots market, you can't do anything with your 5 shares until the share price rose back to 2000 level.

oh what i mean is, its annoying in the sense that you cant break it down any further. Like in your example "you cant do anything with the 5shares until the price rose back to 2000 level". So basically its "idle" shares. but that is only my opinion.
