I think I remember---- something like, they can give you a discount only if you pay minimum of 3 or 5 years?

This is on traditional products. No discount on VUL products, if you shorten your paying period then you just increase your fund by buying more units and any excess on the annual premium will be considered top up.

@ikaela
if you are in the Philippines then there could be an agent in your area.

You should be looking on traditional products they are much cheaper than VUL, i.e Smartstarter a participating product. You could add a rider for your health coverage. You would be unable to do so with a term coverage.

I've been quoted an up-to-age-65 term insurance policy and the premium was almost P12,000 a year (with increases every 5 years). With Flexilink, it's P13,000 a year. I can definitely live with adding just P1,000 more per annum for 10 years if it means getting a longer coverage (up to 88 years old right?) AND a return on my investment (even if the costs are high).

You need to look at a LEVEL term to age 65 product.
There are no increases.
Try to look at Insular's I-Insure and Philam's Guardian.

I was quoted around 4k for age 23 with a 1M coverage
with Insular and 6k with Philam.

You can add riders with Philam's product.. Not so sure
if you can do the same with Insular's

Good Luck!

Where did this 1,000 per annum more come from?
You mean, you'll be willing to pay 1,000 more so you'll
have a bigger fund value?
And you want this bigger fund value so your policy would
last until your age 88.

I'm guessing that the premium has been computed
by actuaries so that the fund value would last until
age 88, assuming a return of at least 4%(that's my
guess since that's the lowest return on the proposal
hehehe)

Leonzky - I checked out the Smartstarter. What are the major differences between the Smartstarter and the Smartstarter Plus? Difference in price?

Anyway, I think I should email you. Could you give me a quote for the Smartstarter?

mxherr5 - That 12,000 per year was for Philam's Guardian, including all the riders I want. The 1,000 is the difference in the premiums I would pay for Philam Guardian vs. Sunlife Flexilink.

13k for 500k coverage ba yan?
Wow, so that means 12k ang guardian for 500k?
Parang ang mahal at sabi mo every 5 years tumataas?
Hindi naman tumataas yun.. bka ibang variant yung
quote sa iyo?

Also, try to look into Insular's term product.
You can try to pm mjtfernandez, taga Insular yun

^Yes, the 13k is for 500k coverage with Sunlife Flexilink.

I just checked the printout Philamlife gave me and I'm sorry, it says 11,500+ for Guardian 10. So it increases after 10 years (and not 5 years)?

I will check with Insular, thanks. I know that you like making charts, calculations and comparisons from reading this thread and if you think they've got a good product, I think I believe you!

I just rechecked my inbox for you and its called Guardian 65
and the exact premium is 5,890 for an age 63. No gender
is specified though. I'm guessing this is for a female as I
was shopping for insurance for my wife at that time =D

here's what it says

Philamlife's Guardian 65 offers you the following benefits:

•  Guaranteed protection of 1,000,000.00, until age 65! Renewable without evidence of insurability, which may cover you up to age 80!
•  Convertible to any permanent plan up to attainment of age 60!
For this product, total premiums payable for a GUARANTEED PERIOD of 41 year/s only amount to:  5,890.00

It wouldn't hurt to ask your Philam agent for another quote =D
I got this quote just last year so I would think they still offer this variant

Mejo over rated lang ung mga charges ni Sunlife because we know the breakdown. But if you'll compare it to a whole life product, you will see that usually, it is at the end of year 2 or year 3 or year 4 before it actually gives you a cash value.

It may be cheap but the lengthy payment is the one that will turn you off.

So in essense, mas malaki pa nga ang charges nun, kasi kay VUL product, year 1 palang may fund value na di ba?

Kung may extra fund ka rin lang, try to mix and match Maxilink Prime + Life Assure. Based on a computations I did with a client, mas magbenefit sa ganung approach up to age 65 since the charges are less in Maxi Prime than in Flexilink.

Downside nga lang is that, mas mahal xa lalabas since mas mahal ang Maxilink Prime kaysa Flexilink. But if it will mean bigger fund value, it's just like mas malaking puhunan sa mas malaking kita. :D

It's nice on paper and all but OMG, the charges are ASTRONOMICAL. I understand that you have to pay for the cost of insurance, but why is the premium charge/sales load a staggering 5% per top-up (is this charged even after the 10-year paying period)?!?

And what is that periodic charge from the 2nd year to the 5th year? What does it pay for?

We haven't even touched on the management fees, redemption fees and etc. yet, so in effect, this is one very cheap insurance product tied up with a very expensive investment product.

DONT INVEST ON SUNLIFE Products kasi its not profitable!!! ang nagsasabi lang na ok yan ay yung mga agents.. ask them for proof kung sila mismo ay bumili ng products nila at sasabihin  nila ay hindi..kung meron man ay konti lang wag lang na masabi na di sila bumili..Take note kung talagang maganda yang SUNLIFE dapat they will invest a huge amount of their own money di ba? hehe

Issue date, the fund value on the 1st day of your policy.
Useless stat if you ask me.

Fund value is # of units x Sep 22 NAVPU.

If you want to know how many units you have.
Just use the message center.
That's what I do if my quicken records doesn't match
Sunlife's. They reply fast

Hope that helped.

@rothschild, you should read this..

Sun Life Grepa Financial, Inc. (SLGFI) is a joint venture company borne out of a partnership between the Yuchengco Group of Companies (YGC) and Sun Life Financial – Philippines. The joint venture agreement involves Sun Life’s acquisition of 49% of Grepalife, the flagship life insurance firm of the YGC. Grepalife was established in 1954, and has evolved to be among the top 10 life insurers in the country. Sun Life Financial on the other hand, is a leading life insurance company in the Philippines that has been operating in the country for over 117 years.

As a union of two strong brands, Sun Life Grepa Financial, Inc. aims to leverage the strengths of both Sun Life Financial and Grepalife, and to continue its mission to be a leading provider of protection and wealth management products. Sun Life Grepa Financial operates as a separate entity from Sun Life Financial - Philippines.

Sun Life’s acquisition also allows SLGFI to enter into an exclusive cooperation agreement with Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC), enabling it to gain access to the bank’s extensive sales network of over 350 branches and over 2.5 million customers nationwide.

SLGFI currently distributes its products through bancassurance, a tied agency force, as well as dedicated group consultants and work-site marketing team. The company continues to invest and grow its multiple business lines and distribution channels and aims to be among the top tier insurers in the Philippines.

In achieving this business objective, SLGFI has identified four key strategies: offering innovative products and competitive value proposition to its clients; growing the distribution and enhancing its reach; improving product delivery capabilities; and establishing operational efficiency.
