May napabalita na po bang nagsara na UITF? And sino-sino po ba dito ang merong UITF or MF? So that we can know lang kung anu prefer ng karamihan.

Let me start, for now MF pa lang ang meron ako. Don't have UITF yet. Kayo po ba mga sir?

I have both uitf (odyssey hi-con equity fund) and mf (growth fund and phil stock index fund).
Right now both are down; uitf -9.37% while mf -1.82%

For Hi-con equity, a big chunk of the fund is invested in the mining sector, and right now this is down so my loss is increasing each day :(
However, right now is a good timing to invest in uitf I think, as the fund's NAVpU is lower, no?

If the fund invests heavily on the mining sector, paper losses are expected. This means that if you have a high conviction on mining that it will bring back to life then it's better to invest while NAVpU is a little bit lower. You will then ride its bullish run later on resulting to increase in NAVpU.

By the way, mine is FAMI SALEF of course which exceeds my expectations so far. Take note also your investment objectives, risk-return preference and investment horizon.

^ yep, i recently read somewhere that PX is looking into Masbate gold project after the padcal issue is resolved. so I was thinking that their stocks will start to go up again later. this motivates me to buy more hi-con equity fund.

question, is it possible for this fund to change its strategy, for example, hold less stocks of PX, and then invest more sa ibang equity while the mining sector is not performing well?

congrats to your SALEF :applause:, is it also investing in PX/mining sector?

for me, I am really looking into a long term investment in these funds... perhaps up to 5 years.

From end of 2011 portfolio of SALEF, it has invested on mining companies like PX, LC, MA, ORE, SCC. Note: This might change now depending sa research ng fund manager.

Including in the end of 2011 portfolio are other sectors like holdings: AGI, FMIC, MPI, TDY ; banks: MBT, PNB, PSB, SECB and other sectors (real estates, communications,  retails)

So from the fund manager perspective, diversification with sectors (mining, holdings, banks, etc) and diversification within the sector (PX, LC, MA, ORE,SCC) ang strategy niya. Since SALEF has good performance track records, they should stick to this strategy (which also abides with SEC law to spread the investors' money).

Happy investing!!!

Hello, just a question.

When does UITF or MF earn a yield? Every month or year? Or everytime the NAVPU/NAVPS rise?

In my case, I have MF in Sunlife, when does it earn a yield and be credited to your account?

Salamat po.

From Investopedia... Mutual fund yields are an annual percentage measure of income (dividends and interest) earned by the fund's portfolio, net of the fund's expenses.
Read more: http://www.investopedia.com/terms/y/yield.asp#ixzz25DfEUlzh

Yung rise/fall of NAVPS is combination of income (realize profit) + rise/fall of stock holdings (unrealized) ng MF less fund expenses.
It seems yield is  income less fund expenses.

You can check the financial statement of your MF where it derives the fund income.
Yung SALEF, they get income from capital gains (buy/sell of securities), from dividend (buy/hold of dividend paying stocks) and interest (corp bonds).

usman,
yield earnings on your your bond mutual funds are automatically reinvested in the fund by the fund manager and it is reflected in the navs daily.equity funds earn through dividend earnings and capital appreciation and or depreciation are all accrued in the navs everyday.bond funds earn interest by lending money to goverment, corporations and through trading of bonds.stocks earn through dividends and share appreciation.hope that answers your question.

hello mga sir, after lurking around several weeks ago and watching pesos and sense, I decided to invest to FAMI SALEF, and EIP BDO Peso Balance Fund, plano ko sana mga sir is my SALEF is for long term, then my BDO balanced fund is for short term liek 3 to 5 years. ang wino-worry ko po kasi is baka mali yung pag lagay ko sa balanced fund kasi mataas na yung price nya unit, e ang hanggang 2k pa lang ang kaya ko for EIP monthly, tama po ba ang naging move ko? ano pong mabibigay nyong advise kung sakali..

by the way i'm 23 years old and single, hindi po ba late na ako nag start? ang next plan ko sana is to get an insurance or aralin kung pano yung kalakaran sa citisec.

maraming salamat po..

^ Imposible i-time ang market para sa "tamang" pasok ng investments mo kasi wala talagang makaka-predict kung tataas o bababa ang fund. If anyone claims to have "guaranteed" or "inside info" on whether or not a certain fund will go up or down, BEWARE. This person is either ignorant or is doing something illegal.

Sabi mo nga sa post mo, pang 3 to 5 years ang BDO placement mo. So you should try to be more patient and don't fret about day-to-day or monthly changes in the fund value. Patience will serve you well as a long-term investor :)

23 is right age, Today is always the right time to invest. I started at 28. So you're 5 years ahead of me.

It's not the price of the unit you should be worrying about but the objective of the UITF. Did you read or learn about it's objective and do you agree with the fund's choices of investment? Confidence should be established where you put your money - confidence that it will grow based on your expectations. Like BPI Index Fund it has a high unit price of NAVS participation of P230+ per share but it still grew 22% YTD. Cool huh?
