No, what allows an MF investor to do that is the fact
that he is a shareholder, meaning he is part owner
of the fund itself.

He has a say in matters regarding the fund.

Sa UITF, participant ka lang.

This is from an old pmt article.. I based my decision to buy mutual funds instead of UITF on this..
i'm not sure if this still applies

"The differences include not only the appropriate risk disclosure of the products, but also regulation. Investment companies, the originator of mutual funds, are governed by the “Investment Company Act of the Philippines” (patterned after a similarly titled law in the US). Investment companies are regulated by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Professionals, especially salesmen of mutual funds, have to be licensed. The law requires them to publish their NAV everyday. These companies have to submit voluminous regular reports to the SEC.

In the case of UITFs, there is no law that currently applies to it. While banks are governed by the “General Banking Law” and are regulated by the BSP, there are no specific provisions on CTF, UITF, or the like. Guidelines are in the form of BSP circulars. Currently, banks are required to report their UITF NAV weekly, but will be done everyday eventually. They do not submit voluminous related reports to the BSP. On top of that, bank personnel selling UITF units are not required to have a license"

Just to support totscalilari's post,

For mutual fund you can get the SEC Form 20-IS that details everything on the finances, income(capital gains, interest income, dividend income), expenses, (management fees, taxes, etc), balance sheet, asset/liability, breakdown of the total fund portfolio (companies & shares of each company)

I don't know if that's available to UITF counterpart.. by structure kasi MF you are shareholder of the MF company while UITF you are "participant" on the investment of the bank trust department

Ok, but by so far it won't make a difference unless you have a substantial shares to affect and to influence an MF company. So being a  shareholder and a participant do matter a lot. Just like buying stocks of a certain company.

As participant, you wont be having shareholder's meeting.

As shareholder, you can have an upclose meetup with the fund manager and their perspective of the fund on their annual meeting. Either you have just a few shares or substantial stake in an investment, i think as an investor, its your rights to know what's being done to your money :)

This is not correct.  As a mutual fund participant, you are a shareholder and you are entitled to attend the annual shareholders' meeting as required by law.  If you prefer not to, you may or you may abstain to nominate a proxy.

May napabalita na po bang nagsara na UITF? And sino-sino po ba dito ang merong UITF or MF? So that we can know lang kung anu prefer ng karamihan.

Let me start, for now MF pa lang ang meron ako. Don't have UITF yet. Kayo po ba mga sir?
