trying to decide between putting in an investment in Philequity fund inc. or First metro save and learn equity fund.. saw in the ICAP website that performance of latter has been better historically.

any advice from you experts will be greatly appreciated!

Is it true the reason why Philequity posts a higher gain than any MF company is because 10% of their holdings is on speculative stocks like mining?

I got a Phil Equity fund when I joined IMG way back 2008. To tell you frankly, I entered into MF without knowing that much - just Colayco's and Bo Sanchez book as my reference.  Though my Phil Equity fund earns, I'm not sure of what their portfolio where the funds are invested.

I always thought it was because of their fund manager
Wilson Sy?

Pero talagang hands down, this is the best equity fund
when it comes to returns.
Sana hinire nlang ni Sunlife si Wilson Sy eh hehehe  :D

I heard from my friend that UnionBank Trust Dept. Fund Manager is also Wilson Sy (a.k.a Warren Buffett of the Phil.)  Just look at their Large Cap Phil. Equity Fund Performance today YOY 68%, YTD 28%., way ahead of other UITF and MF company.

The fund manager of Sun Life once gave us a talk. And some actually raised questions like why is it that this company have this return so and so.

His reply was somewhat enlightening. He said that we should not only look at the current income of the company but also in the past. If they are posting a great run this year, it would surely help if we look also on their worst performance. He also pointed out that while Sun Life is only posting 23% while the rest of the competitors are posting 36% is maybe because they are coming from a worst performance when the market is very much down.

He said that it only explains that their strategy is very aggressive that they are willing to invest in speculative stocks.

I 'm not sure with Unionbank but it will surely help a lot if we can have a look at where their funds are invested. Also knowing the fund history will give good insights.

Im planning to make a partial withdrawal of my NAVPS sa Philequity since irereinvest ko ito for some other things but it seems it soaring high right now, do you think it's wise to make the withdrawal right now? Or wait pa ako till the end of this year?
