Hi Sir Harley. Mahirap mag-time ng market. At lalong mahirap mag-time ng UITFs o Mutual Funds.

eto mga signs na malapit na tayo sa stock peak, mataas na ang PE ratios ng stocks sa pse,ang dividend yield ng mga stocks lumiliit na dahil mataas na masyado ang price ng mga stocks,it was already announced by the media that we are(pse)at the all time high.(the big fish are slowly unloading shares).pag lumiliit na ang dividend yield umpisa na magbenta mga big funds kasi malaking percentage ng return sa stock galing dividends(sa atin maliliit d natin ramdam yan pero sa isang fund na billions ang invested sa stocks malaking return yan.i suggest be cautious at invest muna natin sa bond funds habang naghihintay sa pagcorrect ng stocks.(5-7% returns on bonds is not bad na dahil higher than inflation at stable pa sya.ang mahirap kasi sa atin gusto natin biglang yaman agad sa stocks.remember jessie livermore ?he earned hundred of millions in the stock market but he went bangrupt later on trading stocks.

Anybody have a link to BDO Equity Fund Fact Sheet? Can't find their charges and I also would like to know their investments.

Thanks in advance.

Hi all, I've been backreading the UITF threads but haven't found an answer to this question:

May expiration date ba ang Certificates of Participation ng BDO? For example, if you have CoPs issued in 2012, can you wait until 2022 to redeem them? (theoretical question lang, of course if the NAVPU reaches my target value in 2014 for example, irredeem ko na yun)

Of course you may be right, but as some note as well, what is "high" now may go even higher. But here's my actual question: If people follow you and take out their equity investments to go to bonds simply because mataas ang P/E ratios, would you also guide them on the way back? When would it be a good time to shift from bonds back to equity?

Also, would your strategy be better than using cost averaging should the stock market go down soon?

silent investor i,ve been trading and investing in the phil stock for so long.if you look at history its always the same, when interest rates are going down from the highs expect stocks to make its day ,its due to economic activity brought about by cheap cost of money.company profits will soar.when the stock price go up so fast than the earnings of corporations this will result in high stock valuations and high PEs.just be cautious about the stock prices go so fast up when its like everyone is in euphoria and thinks stocks will never go down bec that,s the time the smart money are unloading shares while the patsy thinks stocks prices will shoot to the moon.so you believe peso cost averaging is like the holy grail in investing, the brokers and investment houses are selling you ?if that's it then everyone ought to be doing it  hedge funds, mutual funds etc. do you know why they sell you the idea of cost averaging bec they like you to be there buying when they are dumping their shares.....just remember this .....in stocks if you lost 50% of your capital which is possible, the remaining 50% have to earn 100% just to breakeven with your original capital cost averaging will only effective if your time horizon is forever.

That's good insight theEdge. But I think it's more appropriate to those who trade stocks directly instead of those who invest in equity funds. I was able to see the holdings of an equity fund during the 2008 crisis and the fund did not sell their shares and transferred to cash or bonds (this is not allowed for pure equity funds). So what they did was to stay in the market, selling what they called cyclical stocks and loading on defensive stocks. I remember then that when investors discuss their equity funds, they were talking about which fund got the lowest decline.

Speaking of cost averaging, I do know a person who used this strategy from 2007 to 2011 in the BDO Equity Fund. I'm actually in awe because even during the 2008 crash, she still invested her fixed amount every month while I tried to catch the bottom. I was eventually able to invest in 2009 when the market was going up already. I did get some decent gains, but none near what my friend got over her 4 year investment.

I started during the peak of 2007 and stopped in 2009 and I got awesome returns.
If only I had chosen a more aggressive fund, It might have been more awesome lol.

I think for pooled funds like mutual funds, the reason they promote cost averaging
is, it makes it seem more accessible to the ordinary guy.
I remember when I got "scammed" by family first, my impression was that investments
were for rich people only.
So, they just want to give more people to invest.

May tanong lang po ako regarding the BDO EIP. I have just started with them & iba pala sya compared to BPI RSP (regular subscription plan). My RSPs with BPI are debitting the way I want it.

Yung BDO EIP po pala is they will deduct an amount you specified i.e. 1000php say monthly then after pa mo mabuo yung 10K saka ka pa lang ba nila ibibili ng shares of that funds & you get you Cert of Participation. Ang tagal naman kung ganun plus what happens po dun sa pera na nadebit na nila pero di pa nila ipinaparticipate dun sa FUND?

Secondly,  I examined yung Unsubscription Form for the EIP.

Salamat.

Hi maillotjaune, what exactly do you mean by the RSP debitting the way you want and not the EIP? There really should be nothing different with them. With regard to your specific questions:

1. Mali po na iintayin ka muna makabuo ng 10K bago invest. On your very first contribution, naka invest na po yun agad. In fact, of you have access to their online banking platform, it is possible to see each contribution as they accumulate. You may also request for your EIP Statement of Account from your BDO branch and you will see that even in your first contribution, you already bought some units already.

2. Unsubscribing means you are getting out of the EIP program, not necessarily redeeming your units. However, upon unsubscription, if you have existing contributions that are still below P10,000 market value, (therefore without a COP pa) then these will be automatically redeemed when you unsubscribe. The best time to unsubscribe would be right after you complete one rotation as evidenced by the issuance of a COP.

I think BDO EIP is better that the BPI RSP for one simple reason. For the RSP, you still need to put up the initial P10,000 investment before you can use the RSP. While in the BDO EIP, even with your initial P1,000, you are immediately invested.

@silent investor

thank you sir for your reply.appreciate it.

1) mabuti po at ganun pala yung BDO EIP.  So they immediately participate your contribution agad. That way it is the same with BPI RSP. At yung Cert of Participation lang ang kada 10K contribution. I think yung non-familiarity nung BDO personnel yung dahilan nung confusion ko. I have access to their online banking but I have yet to see where the part where you can view your investments account. I will look into that. My BPI is set up already for monitoring my MFs & UITFs.

2) re Unsubscribing & redeeming, thank you for clarifying this. Its good na you are not obliged to redeem simultaneously as unsubscribing.

Lastly, yung BPI RSP, i also thought that you have to cough up the initial 10K then enroll in the RSP. I made a mistake like this. Pwede na direcho na RSP & when direcho na RSP ang enrollment mo e I think 5K na lang yung initial amount mo (half of the required  normal buy IF you are NOT on RSP) then you get to designate the amount to be regularly contributed & frequency of the contribution.

Thanks uli sir. Pag may Q's pa ko ay ask ko po uli kayo.TY much.
