With the current global crisis, europe, US job unemployment, china's manufacturing decline, somehow a bearish market. Will the current levels of peso MF continue to decline? I'm planning to open a BDO-UITF, though I'm still determining if its the "right" time. Buy low.

Please share your thoughts, thanks.

If it will decline, you can start.
If it will stay flat, you should start also.
If it will go uptrend, you should have started nung declining. :)

What you see in the news are all perception of the near not the long long term.
Kasi pwede pa ring mag bago ang perception once another boom/bust "event" will happen in just another time in the future.

Anytime is a good time to invest...as long as you do not have any deadlines for redeeming your funds. Kung 5 to 10yrs and investment horizon mo..it should not be any problem. Mag equity ka na. he he.

That's the uncertainty of it all. Its just that for me I'd rather buy at an upcoming up trend or in an early uptrend than in a mid-down trend that will take you to an uncertain low. Well that's just me, given that one can at least determine the trend technically or by fundamentals.

Mag equity ka na. he he.

Meron na po, nagbbalance lang ng risk kaya dagdag ako ng MF. :)

"I have 60 professional analysts on my investment department doing research about TA and FA. We have Bloomberg terminals that i paid to get updated news before an ordinary people will know them. Yet, SOMETIMES, i still failed to find the trend" - words from veteran Pinoy Portfolio Manager, during his wealth management workshop here in Dubai

Good luck for those who wanna predict the trends.
Will leave that to my fund manager in my chosen MFs. :)

True, MF are generally safe, less risk. But in investing: low risk, low return; high risk, high return. It will all depend on your risk appetite. No offense to MF holders (I am a MF holder as well). Its just that all investment vehicles have pros and cons, we choose and enjoy the kind of risk that we want. :)

I'd like to continue trading stocks but for now I really don't have all the time because of my work plus while waiting/studying for a good business deal/opportunity,  I'll park it under a new MF muna. :)

Yup.. This is correct, lalo na in US settings. Just go to Morning Star research and you will find out how super lousy the performance of the majority of the fund managers vs the benchmark. Probably sa sobrang dami ng MFs there (compared to the number of equity stocks), napaka laki ng volatility ng markets nila just to beat each other's performance.  Dagdag mo pa yung exotic and other financial instruments that keep disrupting their markets.

Sa Pinas naman its quite different scenario, makikita mo kagad sa pifa.com.ph which fund manager are beating the PSE benchmark. Medyo mas maganda pa financial framework sa Pinas since mas nauna nagka crisis here ('97), thus nauna tayo nag adjust bago pa yung '08 crisis.

Yes, this is correct.. Kaya either find a niche kung san tayo pwede.
I dont believe that we can be an Investor and a Trader at the same time. Meron, for sure, na lalamang sa profile pag dating sa capital market.

Isa pang observation, if we will do MFs.. Dont do labas-masok sa MFs, then doing trending, etc, kasi ang fund manager na gumagawa noon sa loob ng fund itself. Para kasing minamage mo ang fund manager mo by doing that. Eh dapat work natin is to INVEST. Sayang ang fees na binayaran sa fund manager kung ginagawa mo yung siya ang dapat na gumagawa
:watchuthink:

For stocks, you can do that kasi ikaw ang nag-seself manage for your own portfolio.
Note: I burned some equity before ako napunta sa MFs.
Kaya i find out hindi ko forte ang direct stocks, i just settle in my MFs, ever since.  :hihi:

Hi everyone!

I'm a newbie and quite interested in mutual fund investment. I did a thorough research on this and already made a decision that I'll invest in sunlife of canada. The question is....WHEN IS THE RIGHT TIMING TO INVEST??? Since I am leaving abroad and will go home for a vacation on the Jan. 2007, that would be the time that I might invest. Is that a good time to invest?

Any tips, info, advice would be most appreciated. Thanks!

 :eek:xiaomei

for me, anytime.. as long as you are committed and disciplined enough on your investments.

Hi pepper,

Wag ka na malito, follow your heart, kasi ako nag decide ako based s researh ko at kung ano yun gusto ko, if you want you can try philequity, punta k s website nila www.philequity.net and decide if you will like them, if you like dealing with the bank at meron k account s kanila mas ok din kasi transfer k n lang ng transfer, hope this helps.

Has anybody tried backtesting an MF if it conforms to TA? I mean, TLs, just like true love, shouldn't be discriminatory and should apply to all animals. Right?  :watchuthink:
