  • We cannot be any careful nowadays because bad elements of the society are out there to get our money. One good thing you have done is informing the authorities about the scheme. This will help others by providing warning.

  •   All I can advise is to 'ALWAYS' use an ATM machine where there is a security guard visible during the daytime hours and if you have to use one at night then try going inside a mall where it's bright, secured and plenty of people...

  • I just want to share with you style of scammers in SM fairview preying on bdo atm withdrawers.

As you are falling in line, there are already predators looking at you and trying to sense you whether you are their 'type'.

After making a withdrawal, the scammer will run after you, either she is an old lady or a pregnant woman saying " maam / sir, may naiwan ho na pera sa atm machine after your withdrew your money. paki bilang nga ho yung na withdraw nyo kasi ho may kinuhang pera yung sumiunod sa inyo sa atm miski di pa nya pinapasok yung atm nya..."

If you count your money and its right, she will say for you to have a balance inquiry to check whether your atm balance is correct. while falling in line, he or she will get your trust. as you insert your card, he or she will memorize your atm p.i.n .

By some quick maneuver, your atm will be replaced  / substitute you atm card with a dude atm card and she will get your atm card. Immediately your deposit will be withdrawn and cleaned dry.

BEWARE!!!! They use pregnant and credible looking individuals to chase you and get your trust.

  • That's why you should make it a habit to always cover your keypad with your hand/wallet or something. and always be on alert.

I always withdraw my salary in an ATM inside a bank's premise.
And I also have a dedicated ATM card(BPI Direct para 500 lang maintaining
balance) for when I go out/lakad. Parang prepaid card function neto.
If ever ma compromise, limited lang parati amount d2 hehe

  • Even covering the hand to type in the PIN isn't 100% safe - but still useful nonetheless. Be suspicious of ATM keypads that looks like a bit raised up over its surroundings. Its another way of recording PINs which replaces that camera thing that is often installed by fraudsters.

Always be aware that the fraudsters are always coming up with creative ideas to steal someone's cash via ATM. Always check the ATM slot for any unusual signs like tapes, raised slot, etc. It could be a device that is made to look like the ATM slot, but in truth, records the information inside the magnetic stripe.

It's already possible that there are dummy ATMs around (but not yet heard of here in the Philippines) - the ones that return the message "transaction failed" when in fact it has recorded the information from the magnetic swipe.

Remember that the fraudsters often need two things - the magnetic information stored in your ATM, and the PIN to do their modus. If signature transactions and online purchases can be done with that ATM card, then it opens up more ways for the fraudster to access the account without withdrawing money!

Other people do it the old fashioned way - let someone get his/her cash via ATM, then rob him/her off after taking out that cash. Happened to me even if there were people around and in bright daylight (that darn pickpocket that followed me).

based transactions) sa BDO ko kng mawala/manakaw

True. At first I wasn't impressed at BPI's ATM/debit cards because they do not have the Mastercard or VISA logos, but later on I realized that having a lot less logos on the card is really not that bad.

EPS is acceptable almost everywhere anyway. At least when you need to pay for gasoline or groceries. Not much on restos though.
