Increasing ones earning will not solve your financial independence if you don't do something about your lifestyle. OOO palakihin mo yun kita mo kaso hanggang kailan mo pwede gawin yun?

Lagi natin nababasa at naririnig. Live within your means.
In my case, it was clear to me. I have a goal, I write it down, I plan, work, dream & pray about it. Example: What’s more satisfying to me? Owning a brand new car or owning a second hand car but debt free?

^ I agree with all the advice of our PMT colleagues.

Let me sum up in a formula:

INCOME minus (SAVINGS and INVESTMENTS) minus DEBT PAYMENTS = EXPENDITURES

Adopting this formula requires a great deal of DISCIPLINE.

There are diff opinions here, all are very helpful. I guess u know that your problem can easily be solved, all u have to do is to be matipid, at least for the meantime.
I would like to share w/ u my own experience. While others earn & reward themselves, thats good, they truly deserve it, thats instant gratification. I, on the other hand, pratice Delayed Gratification.
When we (hubby & I) were starting, my goal is to save our 1st 100k. When we reached it, we bought a 2nd hand motorcycle worth 35k, we were so happy bec at least we dont need to commute anymore on our daily routines, the remaining 65k I used it to buy & sell stuffs (from divisoria). 1x a week commute parin to buy stocks. Bus on the way to divi, taxi pag uwi since we have stocks.
My next goal is to save our 1st million. When we reached it, I didnt buy a brand new car/van, instead I bought a 2nd hand FX worth 100k, the remaining 900k I invested in RTW biz. I always buy in cash, I never had credit cards, I didnt have any kind of loan. I only want to spend what I have.
My next goal is to earn 5m. With 900k initial capital, we reached it in 3yrs. I didnt buy brand new car or house. I bought a 1.7m foreclosed house (30% down, 10yrs to pay), I bought 2nd hand grandia worth 500k. The rest of the money I use in expanding my rtw biz.
My next goal is to earn 10M, when I reached it. I bought more foreclosed properties, this time I told myself I will reward hubby w/ brand new car na.
Today, I have 4 house & lots (all foreclosed), 3 condos (brand new), 9 commercial properties, 5 brand new vehicles & 1 old grandia (still there), 2 businesses (rtw, fastfood), some savings. I can now afford almost everything I like. Now I gratify myself.
Delayed Gratification was my secret. If I spent my first 100k. I will never have what I have today. If I reward myself too early, then our money would not have the chance to grow. My other secret is, pray & have faith in God. Every blessings comes from Him.

Galing! I hope I can do the same. Though I make it a point to reward my family with vacation at least twice a year..  coz, it inspire me most to see them with so much happiness and it is a great bonding for us.

But, I'll keep this in mind, to set targets also. Thanks gang13.

yes saving is important as a start but is it enough?we need to invest those savings to build wealth.and 3rd and the most important is time, without this the previous 2 are nothing.
