Author Topic: Are mutual funds/uitfs such as equity funds really for the long term?  (Read 3244 times)

I have noticed most funds (equity funds and some balanced funds) are actually volatile from day to day but not as volatile as real stocks

Kaya maisip ko na these are also good opportunities for some short-term gains
Like in trading you buy when the NAVps is low and sell when high
though I don't know if you can apply technical analysis here

Tingin ko kasi pwede rin siya for wannabe stock traders since
1. Equity funds especially Index Funds reflect the movements of the market
2. You can study how the mutual fund/uitf's investment strategies (i.e. where do they invest, in what specific stocks) and copy or even derive your own strategy from them
3. If you are having a loss in this short term, bought at a high NAVps, you can just wait for the prices go up once again (pero baka matagalan ka pa), since mutual fund/uitf generally have an upward trend except for major economic downturns

What do you say guys?
Has anyone here tried buying and selling equity or even balanced mutual funds/uitf for the short term like months or even only weeks? Saang fund ito at how much gains have you derived from it?

for me mahirap mag TA sa mutual fund kasi it is diversified.

i'm not too confident rin kasi to enter in stocks eh

Hmmm pano mo gagawing training ground ang MF or UITF?

Sa stocks kasi you somehow speculate more accurately kasi pwede ka mag Technical Analysis. Sa MF or UITF pede pero mahirap kc sa loob ng MF or UITF e 10 or more companies. Selling units means selling selling shares of all of those 10 or more companies at ones.

Kung walang TA wla ka ring matututunan.

^wala lang i just thought it would be a good idea

pero forgetting what i said about making the mutual funds/uitf as training ground
are equity funds/ balanced funds really just for long term? hindi ba siya opportunity for gains in the short term?

pwede rin siya sa short term. If you are happy with the gain you have, pwede mo withdraw muna

Yeah, just what happened to me last year. The stocks declined dramatically last Oct 2011 so i bought UITF then by Jan 2012 my gain is already at 15%, so if you are keen to sell then sell

Sa MF or UITF wala ka TA, ang basis mo lang ay yung daily NAVPS,, mostly naman sa MF ay blue chips kaya for long term talaga.. Pero kung okay na sa iyo ang 15% return, then you an redeem naman anytime.. :)

Kaya no worry.. :)

Ako i would still invest in MF or UITF kasi nakakapraning din yung mag-analyze ng stocks, sa MF/UITF may fund managers so sila na bahala. For me ill put may extra money to stocks or mf/uitf.

Try mo both and try mong i- beat mga fund managers haha, exciting

Tama si decapolis.. :)

Ako kasi tagal ko na rin gusto mag try into stocks, pero as an investor lang,, long term and blue chips dapat bilhin.. :)

Im in stocks now kasi gusto ko matutunan, pero i have MF since 2007 and UITF since 2011. Wala talagang sinabi Time Deposit ... If gusto moe peace of mind then try MF UITF buy slowly ... buy regularly and put a lot of money during the units are cheap especially during BEAR cycle

One more point is may holding period sa UITF and with penalties pag nag withdraw/redeem ka within the holding period. Di ko lang sure sa MF. Sa BDO is 1month holding period. Sa stocks kasi wala.

^i think it is to provide more liquidity
so investors may cash out their investments at anytime without the fear of early redemption fees
